Yeah. My parents are educated, but not affluent (easily upper middle) and they convinced me to go to a very expensive private school. Granted I did receive a shit ton of scholarship and grants, it was still more expensive than the option my HS provides (free college for people in the top 10% of your class if you do 2 years CC and then 2 years state school - or just transfer wherever you want). thankfully it didn't cripple me, and i loved college, but it would have been much wiser financially to take the free education and i really don't think my experience would have made me better or worse off in the job market.
