The 970 is completely in line with price vs performance ratios of other nvidia cards. If you prefer Nvidia, this means you weren't ripped off, you got the performance you paid for.

The other point of contention is comparing the card versus its competition, the R9 290x.

If you bother taking a look at multiple benchmarks at multiple resolutions, you will clearly find that the 970 pulls ahead in some benchmarks and the 290x pulls ahead in others. While the 290x has slightly better performance overall in 4k scenarios, BOTH cards under perform in 4k.

SLI / Crossfire comparisons are stupid, imo. Both are annoying as fuck to deal with (drivers issues on new games, poor scaling, etc). You really shouldn't jump into the world of multi gpu's if you aren't knowledgeable (plus have lots of money to burn).

As of today, yup. I have a nvidia 770 which I bought after having two amd 6870's, before that a ati 4870, and before that an nvidia 8800gts. As of right now, my opinion leans towards nvidia. They have more image quality settings and (in my experience) slightly better drivers. BOTH companies have a long history of shitty drivers though.
