Crucial MX100 256GB is a great deal. Got one myself.

Isn't the Power consumption from the 290 kinda..... horrible?

I'm the same, I have a lot of games so I'd need (well, want) a large capacity SSD and I can't justify spending that much.

>i5 4670
>8GB RAM (refuse to upgrade until prices drop)
>GTX 770 4GB

Apart from the atrocious loading times (haha yeah, the irony) DA:I runs smoothly at max settings (1080p @ 60Hz)
>>
>>592370729
It never fails to amaze me why the fuck people have a 120gb ssd. Is that really enough for you? Or did you buy it years ago? Because these days they have 250gb for 10 dollar more

Nice part list ether way. You should really clean that mess of cables up though.

This probably means CX series, which is kind of meh and 500W would have been enough.

>>
>>592372775
It's a beast. Mine overclocks like a boss too, 4.4 ghz at 1.2v. But i think that's just me getting lucky.

For gaming it's debatable though, 6 cores/12 threads is pointless for just that. Unless you're goging for some insane 3 way or 4 way SLI/Crossfire setup and you need the CPU bandwidth.
>>
>>592372661
Oh maybe I enabled he fps_max filter. thanks a bunch dude!

I'll be video editing as well as gaming, going to graphic design at uni too, so that will probably be more on the ram side, but wouldn't hurt for a beast cpu. It's only a fraction more expensive than the i7-4820k (if i'm not mistaken)

Thanks for the heads up though!

If you think its the power supply, try short circuiting the green lead (pin 14 i think if its all black) and a ground lead on the 24 pin and see if it turns on, if it doesn't then defs psu problem

I'm pretty sure it's the PSU because the mobo and CPU are brand new and CPU failure will still result in fans spinning

I am currently upgrading a 7 year old pc into a new one. Only have SSDs, SSHDs and RAM to upgrade. My Modular PSU is currently on the way.

Specs:
I7 4770k
XFX R9280X
6GB DDR3 RAM (Will be upgrading to either 8GB or 16GB)
Corsair H80 Watercooling kit for CPU as well.

Anybody know of any budget GPUs that I can shove into a media PC. Will also be used to stream DayZ (Standalone not mod) to my sisters laptop. It doesn't have to run it well, but as long as it's playable.

Hi.
>>
>>592376142
The Intel is a tad better, not really worth the price if you are just gaming, the GPU is what will make the biggest difference.
Once again, single threaded performance and the Intel wipes the floor with AMD.
Extreme gaming rig, go Intel, budget or general gaming, AMD and Nvidia.

I also built a PC for my friend in a Coolermaster N200 case with an i5 4590 and an R9 280.

It is a Thermaltake SpinQ VT.
It looks pretty cool, but doesn't offer much over a stock cooler to be honest, maybe 5 degrees.
Also, the fins have become very tarnished, because I live in a very humid place.
I would like to be able to coat it black somehow, I was thinking getting it anodised, but then I thought bugger it, I will just get a closed circuit water cooler sometime instead.

I'm in Brisbane and the biggest problem I've found is a combo of dust plus high humidity.
Dust gets in, sits on things, humidity goes up and that dust gets all damp, then starts to cause corrosion.
My old case died because of that, and it started killing my cpu cooler too.

Positive air pressure = less dust. More fans blowing air in = less dust. Better air flow = less dust. Tidy cable management = better air flow.

Basically build your build well and keep a lot of air inside your case and you'll be fine.

Depends on your budget... whatever you go for, go dual channel with your RAM. As for the used parts - maybe ask around in your family and friends. I sold quite a few of my used Parts to my little brother or cousins, cuz they were still better than what they had.
The GTX 970 is great for prettymuch everything but coil noise. I've returned mine twice and twice got a new one with the same problem. This means i have to keep my moduVents on the R4 closed what means higher temps inside the case what then means that the fans cant fully turn off.
But if you are not too sensible with noise go for it, great GPU.

PS: I've read that the Zotac onces are the most unlikely to whine. Especially the upper two onces... dont know the names right now.
>>

I've read about that whine on the 970s and how it can be controlled by changing the fans velocity slightly or something (on the EVGA cards anyway)

No one in my family to sell to unfortunately too, I guess I'll try mt local PC part store.

Software loads faster and searching for files is faster.

Silent operation, HDDs are usually the loudest component and they will not have to run constantly with an SSD in place.

Depends on what you are trying to do with your PC? Gaming => get the biggest GPU you can afford and you sould be golden.
Content creation => Get better CPU and Ram

Whatever you do dont upgrade your PSU even more... it's already oversized and therefore not optimal. Most people don't know that but putting a too big PSU in their rigs will actually increase the power drain.

It isn't. Most PSUs have max efficiency at around 50-75% load.

Getting a PSU that will only be at 30% load is therefore less efficient than getting one that will be in the optimal range.
