Ask any question to military anon
>I'm currently applying for USMC.
>How long is the recruiting process?
Still waiting after a month.
I need a criminal waiver(my sergeant will take care of it)
>I got an ASVAB score of 61 AFQT
>What are my odds of being successfully recruited and sent to bootcamp?
Damnit man nice! Congratulations marine!
Yes, the sergeant took me to MEPS to take the ASVAB once. He was surprised and satisfied with my AFQT score, the guy didn't stop shaking my hand and congratulating me.
What are your reasons for thinking I'll be sent to Afghan when I haven't even been to bootcamp yet?
A Felony Battery but I successfully completed all the court requirements and sentences, came out 100% clean. Need anymore info?(what can be shared in this notoriously hostile site)
I went to MEPS the weekend before thanksgiving and in shipping out in august. I scored a 77 on my ASVAB, and I'm going Intel. I had something criminal on my record but I appealed it and it was reviewed and no Acton was taken. Good luck with yours, you won't be able to get your TS with a waiver
If you successfully fulfilled the conditions of the court you shouldn't have a problem.
I simply hope you can handle the corps. I'm NAVY by blood. Go get the job done Marine.
What do you mean TS?
Yes I was never jailed or house arrested or nothing like that. I have faith in my recruiting sergeant will help me get in. The guy looks like he's 100% determined in getting me in, I guess he likes me and knows nobody's perfect and we all make mistakes. But thank you Marine, and SEMPER FI
MP, Intel and spec ops? Be more specific, my english is not 100%. What would you say are my chances poolee?
Anon what mos are you trying to get?
I bet you're a bata POG fag. Corps ended combat operations in the 'Stan this year.
Are you intelligent?
Medic all the way. Gain that qualification and own it regardless of branch.
There is no better feeling on earth.
The dignity, and respect you gain from those around you is what you earn.
no one will ever give a shit about what you do no matter what. your girlffirned will leave you and your mom will hate you. yioull come back and there will be no jobs and when you try to relate to guys who just came back they will feel smug and better then you, if you goto war.. and pray that you do. then have the balls to die there. r.i.p kaloust 2010
Here's the deal man. I deployed to Afg in '09-'10 to the Helmand province and to west Africa a few years ago. The ground side is fun no lie. However I'm divorced and have a DUI and fight ptsd every day with no real skill sets that apply to the civilian world. choose a mos that will transfer directly to the civilian.
You're saying I should get a degree in paramedics or something like that?
Choosers can't be Pickers, am I right? Honestly I never aimed at being a top secret spec ops agent or any of that, just the sense of achievement, satisfaction and respect of being a US Marine and being able to rank up as an enlisted marine is good enough for me. I consider myself very able and determined to achieve any goal I want if that matters.
Don't let them fool you about not being able to do the security clearance. you may like to do recruiters to get in but if you have an that requires a security clearance do NOT lie on the application. I've known plenty of guys to get TS/SCI's that have fucked up in the last.
If you have unpaid traffic tickets, you can't do MARSOC. You have to be a perfect little boy to do special ops
You don't know any felons with a TSC
No matter what any grunts say, stay away from infantry, especially in peacetime, you will have absolutely zero marketable skills and all your time would be wasted
yeah because all i do is fucking drink now you dumbasshole. what do you want to know you fucking shitlord? do you want to know how far your body can take you? do you want to know whats its like to totally give yourself to the purpose to killing other people? like what are you looking for you dumbasshole
I NEVER lied to my recruiting officer, I've been 100% truthful, honest and willing the whole time.
1. I'm not white
2. Even less suburban
3. I've been poor-mid class my whole life
4. GTFO my thread faggot, I don't even know why I reply to asswhipe trolls
So the corps never had a SOCOM unit until MARSOC. Force recon was never a full fledge socom asset. The perks of being in a socom unit are great. More pay (you receive special incentive pay) more money for training, and better missions. MARSOCs been up and running for about 4 years now. If you want to be a door kicker do this or recon. What you don't want to do is 4 years in the regular infantry.
Outside of the ground side I would say something with computers or aviation
well whatever you attempt to do i want you to consider that mst the people that join are white southerners. i was approached many times because i was a "nigger lover" because i grew up in detroit. i tell this to a lot of my students i mentor. its just apart of the business no one talks about. just be the best at whatever you do and know what your shipmates or "battlebuddys" aer thinking.
You dumb never said anything about felons. But for a fact my team leader in Afghanistan received an open container citation when in San Diego and had no problem getting his SCI. I have plenty of buddies that have done way more s*** than MARSOC and have not been so perfect.
Well, an EMT class wouldn't hurt. The military will streamline you to medic if they see you've taken the effort.
There are NEVER enough medical staff in the military; in any branch. If you have the aptitude and stomach for it then do it.
After reading a bit of this thread this is what I have to say OP; you're a faggot.
You're not a military anon. You're recruiter 'caring' about you, you're a fucking idiot if you believe that for a second. The fact that you have a felony, even with all the bs you may have done to make up for it, will be a no go. You're wasting your time trying to enlist.
I grew up with a brother by a single mother in butt fuck nowhere, Florida. There are no opportunities here and I will be able to make something of myself joining the corps. Please explain how learning a trade, getting free college, and airing that my children will have more opportunities than I had is a poor decision? What do you do?
I assumed you being a vet as you say you are, know for a fact that NOT ALL THE FUCKING MOS's IN THE MILITARY ARE COMBAT ORIENTED.
I honestly don't give a fuck about dumb rednecks, all I want is to earn a place amongst the few and proud.
I AM a felon, thats the reason I made the thread...
SO MUCH THIS, I couldn't have put it any better >>584679321
If I had no chance at all to enlish for a first time offense Battery Felony then why the fuck the military came up with waivers and why would the recruiting officer would be wasting his time with me you asshole piece of shit. GTFO faggot
"Continued from" I just remade the thread.
GTFO AF reserve, nobody likes you.
Technically yes, just one but I came out 100% clean.
Don't believe the assholes in /b/, honestly I don't know but meeting with your local recruiter would be a good start.
oh so you want to join the military as a career. why? goto college. fuck marine girlfriends for a living. it wont matter because your experience wont be accreddited when you get out like every other electrician, machinist, and corpsman. learn a trade you dumb jody turdblossom bag of shit
Current active duty USMC here. If the felony charge stuck, you're screwed, currently non-waiverable. That being said, I'd recommend artillery if you're looking to stay in. My mos promotes pretty fast, good community, and I enjoy my job.
He doesn't necessarily like you, he's getting paid to get dumb shits like you in the meat grinder. Why am I even talking like you are a real youngster that just joined up though, you're a recruiter type person.
Not really dude... The Marines have corpsman from the Navy. All Marines are taught combat care to assist in the field on an instant.
And honestly the war is slowing down, I know we're not deploying for OEF any time.
Actually army, but technically I don't really care, I believe all are essential, and see no reason in the petty arguments of people who think one, or the other is better, maybe in terms of financial positions but at the end of the day, it should be what you prefer.
Marine Fag here. Odds are, they'll take you. They'll take almost anyone. It's all mental. It's not as tough as you think. Go 03xx (Infantry). Semper
>What's the training like?
Freaking hard. Toughest shit I ever did. I am now studying medicine and they pay me a salary next to it, which is great. We don't have tuition fees here, but you need perfect grades to get into med school, which I didn't have and scholarships for your living expenses. Army got me into med school and I have a guaranteed state scholarship supplemented by 30% military pay.
Because I fucking want to, I don't have to explain shit to an asshole anon in /b/. The USMC could pay for my college education and there are many MOSs that translate to civilian world jobs, retard.
I had afeeling someone would tell me that.... Damnit anon, I really want to join. is there ANYTHING I can do to help my situation?
Completed all the sentences and requirements, have no traffic violations or anything. I'm clean.
NO SHIT HE'S GETTING PAID TO DO HIS JOB, YOU SAD SOB. I've seen dozens of people go in, fail the fucking asvab with a 11 and they have perfectly good criminal records. I believe I have good chances of being accepted.
Merely referring to the fact that you WILL do far shittier and far more degrading work than the fast food joint you are too prideful to work at. You are going to be miserable.
I see. What type of degrading work is it? I mean, I look at my life, 10 years from now, and I imagine flipping burgers to be pretty fucking lame, I don't have the money to afford college, maybe with financial aid, but that seems dull and uninteresting I want an interesting career. I'm willing to work for it.
I know its not like in Full Metal Jacket Marine anon. I seriously hope you're right, but I was thinking about logistics more than Infantry, any feedback? What is your MOS? How long have you been in the Corps.? What has been you overall experience? Is bootcamp the hell they make it?
This. Never thought I would clean as much as I did. Hell the only thing we did more then cleaning was drill. And this was in '07. Thought there would have been more preparing for war and shit. Not scrub, harded faster eye sir...
Stirring a burning bucket of piss and shit, washing and painting rocks. Police calls, inspections. Etc.
If you have the mentality that ANY sort of work is beneath you (as implied by your prideful comment) you will be miserable and people will hate you.
Dude if you have a for reals felony on your record you might get fuck on getting in the corps. They are slashing numbers cutting funding and god only knows how many other ass holes are just like you. I would start talking to the army as a backup.
Well that seems extreme, maybe this is from your own personal experience, I think its possible I may have a different experience at this point I don't see any other option that would give me any joy to do.
Thank god I spent most of my military time deployed. But the few months in between deployments fucking suuuuuucked.
No. No it's not extreme it's every day military life give or take. You need to check your attitude/entitlement ideals and realize nothing and no one is beneath you, or above you. You are going to be a miserable miserable fuck if you think mil life is all training and war fighting.
I don't, I just know what I want and don't want I don't want to work at a fast food restuarant, I don't want to mop floors for the rest of my life, if I have to do 17 weeks of shit, to give me something more, I will.
Who are you calling asshole you inbred, closeminded, braindead, smalltown son of a bitch? You have no right to judge me for my current status, you have no fucking idea what I've been through and if you would switch places with me you would probably be DEAD. Now I'll let you know I won't reply to anymore assholes like you.
You will be mopping floors, taking grass, picking up pine cones/cig butts, cleaning issued gear, cleaning officers offices, carrying shit from A-B, being your chain of commands work bitch, and a multitude of things I am too lazy to type on my phone for your entire enlistment just about. Get your head out of the clouds.
I know. I've been there. I enlisted because I'm a white male so no scholarships (even with a 3.87 gpa) and no funds from parents.
Went 11x option 40. Got into the 75th, deployed twice (once Iraq once Astan) got hurt on patrol, got sent home, got medically discharged and am now about to graduate college.
So I know what I'm spewing. Quit brushing the advice off like it won't apply to you. It does.
NO SHIT! Of course I'm not SgtMaj Kasal... Now do you want a cake or a trophy?
Thats my point, while some less-apted, lazy, entitled people are not willing to work for it, I'll bite my guts out and many others' just to be given a chance to be a Marine. Sad my road is uphill but I don't give up easily, it just motivates me more
Say what you like, we are not face to face and you can't ptove anything to me. If a Marine Officer calls me an asshole I will just accept it and keep on with my duties, on the other hand I won't be humiliated by an anon in /b/ get that through your thick skull
Yes and yes. I get disability, my school paid for, and basically BAH while I'm in school. The jihad joe who put me in that situation fared a lot lot worse.
So overall in the win column
not awesome? the max is 99, I fail to see how thats not more than awesome. I got a 61 and the recruiting officer was treating me like one of the best scores he had ever seen (locally atleast)
Good or Bad? read above ^
dunno man. I scored a 97 way back in the 90s (yeah I'm old) and it didn't really seem like it was hard to do. Unless the ASVAB has gotten a shit-ton harder, or your area of the country has a high incidence of inbred retards, I still don't think a 61 is all that great.
ASVAB is literally the easiest recognized test you can find.
Compare it to MCAT/CPA/CFA test you military people had it easy.
I considering joining it a while bank and doing those test bank i see no reason why anyone can get lower than 91%, that is assuming they misclicked a few answers
I think it has gotten way harder anon, times change and so does tech and fields of study, keep in mind when I'm from the vast majority of people don't know any english even though its the US. Also while we may know the subjects the ASVAB is in ENGLISH and the words or terms change. For example, it asked me what was a catalytic converted and what was it for. I knew what it was and knew its for filtering pulluntants in an automobile system but others may have not know what it is, atleast in english, even less what it was for...
Just looked up this interesting tidbit about the most recent change to the ASVAB
>the Department of Defense has "re-normed" the ASVAB, using the 1997 Profile of American Youth, a national probability sample of 18 to 23 year olds who took the ASVAB in 1997. The change (new scoring) is effective for any ASVAB test given after July 1, 2004. Those who took the test prior to July 1 are scored on the old system, and these scores remain valid (ASVAB scores are valid for two years).
Like I said, I took the ASVAB back in the 90's
>mfw your score was computed against mine.
if they're computing scores from 97 against scores from now it would have to be the same test. It wouldn't make any sense to baseline test scores against people who took an easier or different test. The only way in which I would have had it easier is if the people who made up the baseline before me were dumber. In which case people actually got smarter.
>>I'm currently applying for USMC.
What fuck?? applying for USMC?
retarded retarded retarded retarded retarded retarded retarded retarded retarded retarded retarded retarded retarded retarded retarded retarded retarded retarded retarded retarded retarded retarded retarded retarded retarded retarded retarded retarded retarded retarded
Retarded? Its ironic how you're the only one who's looking retarded spamming your own post with a shallow vague insulting word with nothing else to back it up. GTFO you socially inept outcasted betafag
That guy is me, and to me theres no better option. Close to null opportunities or employment where I live, they will pay for my education, pay me for training and instruct me in many possible MOSs that some even directly transfer to the civilian world and honestly anythings better than working at McDonalds. Its not your decision buddy, also most of the marines I've seen and even met are very respected, law abiding, successful productive members of society unlike most welfare whores that plague this sad world.
Coming from an AF reservefag I instantly discard you shit of an opinion. get out.
