Pollock's paintings have fractal complexity, which is one way art historians can spot fake Pollock's and also how they can roughly date Pollocks (increasing complexity later in his career). Anyway, Pollock isn't simply a matter of him doing it first. He did it in a particular, very hard to replicate way that people find appealing.
