ITT: post your favorite punk rock bands, albums, EPs, etc. and call each other faggots and posers.
I only have their discography... as for songs I enjoy Betray, Sob Story, and Filler the most. Ian Mackaye(sp?) is a hell of an artist though and his work in Fugazi is great too.
Betray is my favorite Minor Threat song. I've never listened to Fugazi though. He's a funny motherfucker. I was watching an interview where he makes faces at the interviewer because she's asking dumb questions.
The Mistfits, only the new shit though none of that old crap, Jerry Only forever
yall cant be that fucking stupid
>tfw wanna start a punk band
>tfw I sing and play guitar
>tfw so does everyone else
Why is it so hard to find drummers and bassists? I mean, I play guitar and sing because I enjoy it but I feel like a lot of people do it because they wanna be the center of attention. I really wouldn't mind giving up one or the other. Maybe do something similar to Green Day.
Unfortunately I live in a shitty city so there's virtually no postings for musicians on Craigslist. I do plan on moving soon though. Anyone know of any good cities with a good music scene?
Fugazi -13 songs
Left Alone-Left Alone
Left Alone-Streets of Wilmington
Rancid-And out come the wolfs
The Suicide Machines-Destruction By Definition
Less Than Jake-Hello Rockview/Losing Streak/Anthem
It's not as high as you might think. I live about 30 minutes north of the city and most 2br apartments are around 1k/mo I think. I'm pretty certain than any city on the west coast will have a punk scene.
Shit man, I'll have to look into it. I've always wanted to live near the coast. Brother and sister were born in Ventura but my parents had the bright idea to move to MI before they had me.
Talk with other bands or go to meet ups or even actual shows and mingle with people. Or hell put out an ad and see the sticks and slappers come your way. Mostly talk to other members of other bands as they may either be tired of their current gig and may just actually be doing a one time thing and could be looking for a permanent group. Many big name bands didn't start out as best friends who started to play together, they scouted and hand picked either some or hell even all members. Linkin Park's original singer wasn't even Chester Bennington. It was some guy who quit the band because he thought it was never gonna get big. Life's a bitch huh?
care to explain? Props on Big Boys tho
Here's a flyer of a show I went to a while ago, all these local bands were great
How the fuck has no one said Black Flag and how have there only been subtle nods to the Dead Kennedys?
Even though Cali bands are the best, we spread the love. Nervous Breakdown is fucking punk GOAT.
black flag isnt going to be anyones favorite. Yeah they influenced everyone but unless you were a teenager in the 80's someone in the 90's ripped off black flag and did it better,
Sure as hell doesn't sound like it. I mean, I don't wanna sound like a jerk but I don't get the whole "the shittier it sounds the better" mindset. It's like that band Pussy Riot, who the fuck is gonna listen to you if you sound like shit? The message/lyrics can be good, but the delivery is just as important.
Well he was the best singer for Black Flag, he was an awesome singer for the circle jerks (if you havent heard CJ Group Sex you are missing out) and the stuff he is doing with OFF! right now is still good. Dude is legend and so underrated.
I wasn't going to jump in on this, but shit man, that last comment. It's not 'the shittier it sounds the better'. That isn't *a* mindset for anyone. I don't want to go too far into it otherwise i'd have to write an essay. There was a lot of bands back then/now, and they all had their styles. some more gutteral than others, but to each his own. Some vox mirrored the music, hard as shit/fast, etc. Opinion differs, but that singing/musical style became one of the pillars of punk/hardcore music. Some did it better than others, definitely. It's more about passion/aggression/anger, etc. All of these were undercurrents of the music and therefore people got angry. They yelled, screamed, and tried to freak out squares or whatever. Also, the dude making the point about sound quality is spot on. I'll admit, the bands attempting to emulate that now get my goat, but that was the best option at the time of the first waves and moslty all they could afford. It was never 'the shittier it sounds the better', farquad.
Been getting into old 80s and 90s emo and the like lately. I've always put off exploring the genre further than the few well known bands I knew about, I'm regretting that now, sooo much good music that's entirely underrated.
Listening to this album right now. Best punk album ever created.
Yeah its more like Keith Morris sings like he doesnt give a fuck. And its a lot more believable than the guys running their voice through auto tune.
Im also a big tom waits fan just because it sounds like some dude laying in the gutter after drinking all night telling sad stories for songs. But dude can't sing worth shit to most peoples ears.
we got one thread on /b/ that isn't about that cunt in new you're and nobody's posting in it.
the teat walking around in New York who's crying about getting catcalls.
Mike Ness is a fucking turd and he always has been.
Love pretty much the whole SoCal surf/skate punk/ska scene that defined the 90's
Braises their music just being shit, the guy's just a fucking dickhead. I saw that Another State of Mind movie when I was like 16 and all I could think the entire time he was talking was "Christ, what a fucking asshole"
My phone is being an asshole and giving me shitloads of typos so I'm just posting records now.
Michael Graves is still a fucking cocksucker. His shit got stolen from a club I used to work at and I was stoked because that meant I didn't have to listen to his dumbass band that night.
>he's still better than Graves though
Care to elaborate? I see people blindly say that shit all the time without actually giving Graves a proper chance. Yes, Danzig era Misfits is godly but Graves is incredibly talented as well and did the best he could dealing with Jerry's bullshit. His vocal range is way better than Danzig's and he's a fantastic song writer is his own right. Listen to his live acoustic album. Shit is so fucking cash
How about that all of the albums he is on suck, and that he will never ever be the icon or as influential as Danzig?
Saw these douchebags back in '98 when they were touring with Blanks 77 on that record. Still can't listen to that record without cracking up at that cheesy ass shit, funnier than Naked Aggression
>how about that all of the albums he is on suck
In no way am I trying to say Graves is bad. He gets way too much hate, mostly because he has to live in the shadow of Danzig's legacy. He's a talented frontman no doubt. I just much prefer Danzig's beautiful bellowing caressing my ears.
I'll be more inclined to believe you when Graves cracks the charts
What could have been...
No cash - run your pockets Leftover crack- fuck world trade Choking victim- no gods no managers
How can you not mention NOFX? Nofx is the best and most committed punk band hands down no argument.
Other great bands: strung out, good riddance, choke, face to face is probably the best band now that I think about it, but only any album before there live album counts, anything after that is garbage
Could never get into them. Just about everyone I know flips their shit over them though.
Now here's a motherfucker of a record. Actually reminds me of /b/z
the jimi hendrix of punk rock and pretty much overall the greatest punk rock band of all time, no comparison for songwriting, melody and hard driving punk
he is talking family man, the album before slip it in.... nobody liked those last albums.
Rollins did spoke word on the a side and the band did instrumentals on the b side iirc. Its just terrible.
what's that? you want some crust? ok that's cool.
I love both but i do think Graves is too underrated. Graves era of the Misfits is not the best, BUT Graves is a very interesting artist.
And damn, these acoustic albums are SO good. I just love this guy while Danzig really just looks like a douchebag
Come on, no one talking about Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols yet ?
This is just one of the best albums ever.
The only good 80s punk stuff was the crossover ahit. Cro mags-age of quarrell, black flag - loosenut, dri- thrashzone. When these guys atleast attempted to pretend they could play, and it was in vogue to sound like a thrash band.
>>576387634 - Is how my band current band started, two of us have been friends since like 5 years old but I met them on the internet and to this day I don't know how we found our bassist he exists on another plane from most other people.
should always be welcome everywhere. pretty legit.
They were like the monkees. Pretty much a pre cursor to all the bubble gum punk bands of the 90s. The ny dolls and johhnny thunders were the real deal. Shame neither one has been mentioned yet, just a bunch of shitty crusty la bands
I'd also ad this one
I prefer Nevermind but I guess people wouldn't say it's Punk Rock, so Bleach fits better I guess
But Nirvana will always be one of the best rock bands ever anyway
I'm waiting for the arguments saying Nirvana is for shitfags but it wont change my mind
when they went metal... its KIND of cool on like two songs but its such an 80s production style and the songs are so metal influenced nobody every mentions that one. They tried to sellout basically and it didnt work.... still love group sex though.
Overrated yea, but compared to other overrated punk rock bands (The Offspring, Green Day) it's way better imo
And i do like Johnny Rotten and Sid Vicious lol
That's shit. Look at the other NY stuff at the time. Beyond, Raw Deal, Breakdown, Life's Blood, anything off the New Breed comp, really, the mighty Collapse, Our Gang, True colors, the list is endless.
>No Richard Hell & The Voidoidz
Because it's Punk Rock ? especially Bleach, i don't see why it wouldn't be
Nirvana has always been Punk Rock and Alternative Rock, and Bleach sounds Punk Rock, I don't see the problem
wonderful is half awesome half terrible. But Im sure you will like a song or two. Some of those songs were my favorite as a kid, listening to them later on though I was like wtf.
Bleach is not fucking punk rock faggot. Its indie rock at best and more of a rock/metal record than anything else.
Am a fan. Would not call that record punk. Some shit off nevermind/in utero mayyybe but not bleach man fuck bleach.
nahhh man I dont shit on gateway bands like that. Green day offspring nirvana etc got a lot of kids to delve into the indie/HC stuff from back in the day.
I GET THAT THEY AREN'T PUNK. But they got a lot of people into a lot of cool bands which I think is a good thing.
Also H2O and NYHC in General
Are you judging a musical genre by the look of their musicians ? Like, really ? That's your opinion ?
And your bald idiot did nothing but shitting naked on stage.
Kurt Cobain actually wrote music. Deal with it lol
And while i talk about the beginning of Nirvana which was Punk Rock, you answer with a picture of the end of Nirvana where he radically changed of style.
Can anyone properly answer ?
Man i know you can't compare Nirvana's early stuff to everything else "classic punk" quoted ITT, but you can't say they made New Wave lol
It's like, idk, 90's Punk Rock ? Well i'm not a Punk expert, i did listen to some and, i just feel the punk spirit in Nirvana, i know i may be wrong but it's how i feel about it
dude Bleach sounds more like led zepplin/Aerosmith influenced than punk rock influenced.
Territorial pissings? Fuck yeah thats some punk shit. Breed? Oh hells yeah lets fuckin mosh. Very Ape? Get me my new wave suspenders boyee. But not bleach...its the riffs man its a rock record.
I only posted the image for the lulz, gg allin is in fact a faggot.
Still, Bleach is just indie rock. Nirvanas music may have some punk or punk-rock elements, but is far beyond from being punk.
Also, go back to reddit faggot
The Spits, Dead Boys, Necros, Rudimentary Peni, Subhumans, Dead Kennedys, The Mob, Brown Sugar, are some of my favorites.
I hate nirvana, but you have to be an idiot to not see Nirvanas success and disintegration as a resurgence of pubk music in the 90s. Nirvana shut down hair bands in the same way that the 70s bands shut down dinosaurs like Yes, and Styx.
Bunch of elitists itt this thread clutching to their niche brand of punk that literally hundreds of people listen to.
Yep thinking of it Nevermind had some Punk stuff.
But the record has such a clean sound it doesn't really feel punk.
But yeah i agree with you. Bleach is more rock. But anyway Cobain had a lot of different inspirations and i'm pretty sure he got inspired by bands like Black Flag or the Sex Pistols even though what he worte wasn't actual Punk.
And sorry guys if i'm mistaking some shit, but i just never got into genres, like i always thought that genres were bullshit. And most musicians don't even care about what genres they are even doing
Fear is 20x better than the shit you just posted. Fite me.
Because the singer is a personal hero for tricking faggot vegan Davy Havok into eating meat
yeah I think genres are being broken down a little more now in all forms of music... but when you get into a genre specific discussion such as punk rock, people will flame anything outside of certain agreed upon bands.
Id put refused shape of punk to come in here but I know there are haters on that one. Im really into Iceages new record but I dont even know if what they are doing now qualifies as punk. So I just stick to 80's HC here:)
No need to, you are terrible wrong and did not made any point.
>Also, you doing it wrong, nigger.
fuckin shit Black Flag is the shit
heres a picture of me in the Marines with my fresh Black Flag ink
Nah, the way I see it Argument is still punk because it takes all of these confrontational issues and then steps around them to view them from the side. It's still the same feeling as what punk is about, at least to me. Just because it's not in your face about it doesn't make it punk.
