>>
I don't know what's best but I'm planing on buying the Audio Technica AT2020

your pic is a bit retarded though, two products at two different price ranges from the same company? that's like saying what is better a nVidia 650 or a Titan Black
>>
Bump, I am interested in standalone Microphones since I might be buying some good headphones soon.

I'd want it to be under $75 though

this $8 stick I got at Best Buy works fine for Call of Duty
>>
>>574723756
own one. this is the right decision by far.
>>
I have both Yeti USB and the Audio Technica AT2020. I REALLY recommend the USB Yeti. Your mind will be blown how good quality it is for a USB microphone. Plus you get alot of nice settings for it on the back, like directional and omnidirectional. 9/10

shure SM58 mate, has pahantom, probably best cheap mic out there. also there is shure sm7b, but it costs 4 times more

>>
>>574724223
And for those who dont want to spend 100$?
>>
>>574724201
Do you have a usb one or the mic cable kind (not a big audiophile so don't know the name for the ports) I was planning on getting the non usb one with this to go with it

If you're not willing to spend $100 on a mic you are going to end up with a pretty poor quality mic, from what I've seen when looking around $100 is the base line for decent quality

bear in mind that the Yeti is fucking enormous, don't bother getting one if you're just trying to voicechat while playing vidya

Using the XLR one.

That mini-mixer is just about the best way to use the mic, I think you'll have a lot of capacity to do some basic audiophile grade recordings with that setup.
>>
>>574724867
Awesome, thanks for the experience, I have a horrible track record with choosing microphones.
>>
I will point out I used to use mine for podcasting and it was fantastic for that purpose.

now it's just a 'talking to people mic' which is why it's stuffed under my monitor just so.

keep in mind it's a real cardoid condensor mic, it's going to pick up everything happening in the room and if it's not sealed properly, outside the room and down the street. that's their main strength, they will pick up goddamn EVERYTHING.
>>
I got the yeti and its just perfect
>>
>>574724376
wtf are you on about 58's are dynamic and don't need 48v phantom power!
>>574723519
If you don't have an audio interface already getting a usb mic with one built in is your best option,
if you do have an audio interface with XLR inputs a Shure SM58 will work great
>>574724223
When are you going to need more than 1 polar pattern for a pc mic ??? cardio is all OP will use
>>
>>574724695
thinking about getting it anyway, for voicechat while playing vidya
>>
Any preferences on analog mics vs USB?
>>
>>574726640
analog mic means you can choose your own mic , pre's and A/D converter but with USB it's all done for you great for some terrible for others like the difference between upgrading a mac and pc

What would /b/ recommend for recording guitar amp and vocals, either USB or XLR with preamp/converter? Anything up to ~$500

get an SM57 about an inch away from the cab try on and of axis from the cone for different tones, run that via XLR into a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2, you can also take the D.I. from your amp head if you have a separate output on the back and mix the dry and wet signals to achieve new tones , after buying the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 you can slowly upgrade the mic your using to a nice large diaphragm condenser and that audio interface can supply 48v so your sorted
>>
>>574729698
This. And you can use the sm57 for vocals too. Maybe chuck a pop filter on there.
