Sure /b/ro, sure.

Do you make enough money from voice acting for it to actually be considered a career? Or is this note of a "someone hired me for a one-time job on the VAA forums and paid me a bit; that means I'm a professional now!"
>>
>>560337682
Can you say "ayy lmao" on vocaroo with a scottish accent please. That is my fetish
>>
>>560338369
Now a days (last 10 or so years) I've been able to do it as a steady career. Early on though when I couldn't get steady work I did construction work to get by.

Interesting tid-bit for ya though... The actual term for "someone hired me for a one-time job on the VAA forums and paid me a bit" is "amateur professional". Basically it's when you work as hard as someone who does it professionally, but you haven't done any actual professional work. For a Voice Actor this would be something like... Fan Dubbing. For an actor it would be like... "Shakespeare in the park". For a dancer it would be like... "Local Dance Crew for hire". Basically it's people who do the work, but just haven't hit it "big" yet.

you are a fucking moron. The moment you are paid to do something you are a professional. Doesn't matter how small or big it is. There is no such thing as "amateur professional". Please consult a dictionary next time.

Interesting... no wait, the other thing. Tedious.

Nah, just kidding. But now I'm curious, how does a VA go about getting steady work? I mean, there seem to be staples in voice acting, how did they get where they did? I'd ask more specifically about how you yourself did it if that doesn't violate your no identification rule.
>>
>>560337682
Are you paid by the word ?
What's it like being too ugly to be a real actor ?
Do you get pissed off that they get all the chicks and you have to play the voice of a homosexual beaver in a road traffic advert ?
>>
>>560339738
wow a small blurb on Wikipedia. Shit I can make a wiki article in two seconds and call it real fact. I hope to Jeebus you aren't a voice actor I actually like.
>>
>>560340104
why dont you?
>>
>>560339660
I generally work with deeper voices and tones, sounding gritty and badass. I CAN do higher tones because I have the range, but my lower tones are both what I'm better that, and what people ask for the most.
I'm Canadian. (As much as I'll answer on that)
I got started in radio when my uncle gave me a chance to do some local commercials, from there I gave my samples to an agent who got me better commercials, and from there I started in Anime, and moved between anime and Games like I do now.

>>
>>560339818
First off, thanks for respecting my wishes of wanting to stay anonymous.
To answer your question there are two main ways (and in some cases they both work)
A) You get an agent who finds work for you. Usually they get a set percentage of what you make, and that's how they are paid. Also often when you first sign on with an agent you'll need to pay a fee (anywhere between $100-$200) for them to hire a "web guy" to make an online profile for you that your agent will upload for potential clients to look at. They could also charge you some upfront costs for getting professional photo's done (though that's more for acting than VA work) and some other up front costs. This means you (as a client) need to do your research and make sure the person you're paying is legit, and not someone saying they will do shit and it's just a scam.
(on that topic, when I started years ago my agent asked for 30-40% of what I get from it (before taxes) depending on how much I made from the deal)

2) You join a professional Actors union. They generally don't let people in (and the minimum is usually 3-5 professional jobs before they will even consider you) if they are new. But once you are accepted you are promised X number of jobs per year, and in return you also are contracted to do at least X number of Union jobs per year.
I'm part of an actors union AND have an agent. because I am unionized though my agent can't ask for anything more than 15% for her work. Also it means that the union promises me at least 5 jobs a year, and I must do at least 3 union jobs a year.
>>
What games have you worked on? I really fucking want to get into voice acting after listening to Deathshead from Wolfenstein: The New Order and listening to Lex Lang voice act in Crash Twinsanity.

What advice do you have in general? Protect your throat, don't do any screaming/smoking? How do you go about in practicing and training your voice?

Thanks.

I don't smoke, not only because of what it would do for my throat, but it just simply never interested me. I also avoid smoking weed for the same reasons.
I've found when it comes to my throat that it works like any other muscle I have, and the more I work it certain ways the better it performs. For example, I can do a perfect Duke Nukem Impression (i'm not the guy who plays him, nor have I ever professionally), in fact now with the original actor getting on in years I can sound more like Duke Nukem than he can. But when I first started to do it I could only do one sentence without it killing my throat, but the more I did it the more of it I could do. Till now I'm at the point where I could speak like it all day and it doesn't bother me at all.
Also, when I do my work I drink Powerade. I don't know what it is, but something in that stuff Coats my throat and it almost never goes hoarse.
I also do lung and diaphragm expansion exercises, but that has nothing to do with my throat.
>>
>>560342019
Most likely fewer than you would assume, since voice actors can do multiple voices.
It's probably time for you to go to bed.

>>560341449
I've listed a couple of the things I do already, please check previous posts.
As for practicing, I play D&D in my free time and do voices for that when I DM games. I also read to my niece, and interestingly enough I go to places like here and create delivery threads (under the name "Voice Guy" ), to date I've done 995 deliveries just for 4chan.

I've been working on a hard science fiction horror game that will release on mobile devices and steam. it's almost finished with No previews to spoil it. I have a script but need actors. I don't want to ask friends because They all sound too beta to do voices. can you give me tips on finding people and also formats for scripts. I have just random dialogue in a text file. I already tried Google. I might ask random people on the street.

I'm in a hotel room right now on my laptop, and I generally don't bring my equipment with me when I leave for work.
Also, I genuinely have no interest in using my mic since I'll be doing that all day again tomorrow, and did it all day yesterday.
When I want to do things like that I make threads for it. These threads are because I know lots of people have questions, and I generally have the answers they are looking for. It's purely to be informative and help people, not for me to spread my voice around further, and turn the thread into people making requests.

I would suggest using celtx to write your scripts, it's a great free program that's designed specifically for writing scripts.
As for finding Voice actors who are willing to work for free, I just did a quick google search of "Voice Acting community" and several websites came up. I would suggest a similar search for yourself.
But I'm always willing to help out small time people doing things. If you take the time to make your scripts proper using Celtx, then send them to me and I like some of it I'll do a voice for you that you can simply credit "Voice Guy". But if you don't bother to make proper scripts I won't bother to do the work.
Send the scripts to [email protected] when you have them done
