Less people due to some weird event or events maybe disease.
less inhabited cities, plants take over pretty quick.. weeds, moss etc
Some cities look like a total mess while a few cities have all the luxuries mankind could dream up with advances in science/technology.
Not a collapse and back to square one situation just a change in the dynamic of how we live, not entirely focused on consuming everything for the sake of it and being mugs to advertisements.

The Salton sea is small preview of what the future holds for us. It is a lake in CA, created when a flood breached a dike on the colorado river and diverted the entire water supply into the basin over two years.

It went through a period of boom, when investors and vacationers flocked to the oasis like lake. However, severe tropical storms severely damaged the newly established realestate market and the community collapsed.

Over time the lake became more salty than the pacific ocean, and the fish population experienced massive die offs. Now it is a dystopian ghost town.

I imagine the rest of the world on the same schedule, but over a much larger period of time. We are polluting everything we touch, and poisoning our population with medicine. 1/4 of our population is mentally ill according to the NIMH. It's just a matter of time before it all comes down around us.

Personally I think the future will look much more advanced than it does today--in certain places. Other places will be just as shitty as the shittiest African shitholes.

The scientific community is booming worldwide. Technological innovation is not slowing down, nor will it, until there's nothing left to discover. As long as there's a global problem, there will be intelligent people devising a global solution.

Our technology is so advanced that I believe humans will live on, in some form, for eons. I can't honestly imagine anything that could wipe us out. We know of too many ways to scrape shelter and energy. Any global catastrophe won't affect everyone. Maybe *almost* everyone, but not everyone.

People's dependence on mobile phones and internet has already noticeably weakened their memory and cognitive abilities. Why bother remembering anything when you can just google it?

Most people in the future will be literally mindless drones incapable of thinking or remembering anything other than how to get information from the internet. Disconnect them from it, and they will be incapable of independent thought or function.

As a result, the future will resemble Huxley's Brave New World more than any other work of fiction I've read. We're more than halfway there already.

First off you have to realize the people who are police officers and work in the military are people too. I know my brother who is a cop would never shoot innocent civilians.
