I'm a college student that is home for summer break and I did have a summer job but I left it because it was shit so right now I have more free time than I know what to do with though I'm fine with just sitting on the internet all day.

It's my parents who are not happy about it so to satisfy them I'm trying to find something that will get me out of the house.

Well, you're first mistake was quitting your job. A summer job is great; it only lasts a few weeks and it gives you something to do during a potentially boring period of the year. First, try and find a job. Work at a novelty shop, do yard work, etc. If you can get some light manual labor job (yard work!) then you can start tanning and building some muscle.

You could also grab a camera and go be a "photographer." If you live in a small town like I do, you can make a pretty penny off of mediocre pictures simply because people will pay for literally anything that looks remotely pretty.

If you don't have a camera get a really cheap dslr on ebay, spend a bit more on a lens because they're more important than the camera

Browse a few learner websites to pick up the basics like depth of field and rule of thirds composition.

Musical instruments take a ton of work to get anything tuneful out of, photography you'll get a few good shots here and there almost straight away, and then just continually get better at it if you like it.
