I think they were just trying to get the ball rolling on some angles for the second season. The triple threat helps set up more Dysfunctional Tag Team (which LU does MUCH better than WWE) stuff from Son of Havoc, Ivalisse, and Angelico. The main event was padding some time before setting up a number of potential angles involving Pentagon Jr, Muertes, and Prince Puma.

I, for one, hope something involving Vampiro and Pentagon Jr based of that SUPER awesome opening segment with Vampiro in the mental hospital.

Maybe they'll use some of those TV Show segments to shed some light on how Vampiro went from full on Evil Pope at the end of Ultimate Lucha to passably sane mental outpatient with apparently no sustained contact with Pentagon Jr.

Of course, it could be, given his imaginations in the mental hospital, that he's 100% faking and is still pulling Pentagon's strings.

What I found funniest was that they ask Vampiro if he has someone who can pick him up with they discharge him, and it turns out to be Matt Striker. Picking him up in the middle of the desert, which is apparently where the mental hospital with no parking lot was located. And after Striker drove up to pick up Vampiro, he put a sheet over the car he drove so that Vampiro could pull it away all slow motion and cool like.

It's like in the creative meeting for that segment, someone said "What's the most swag, nonsensical bullshit we can cram into 20 seconds?"

With the Network making PPV buys largely irrelevant, WWE is going to live and die by how many people watch RAW (and to a lesser extent, Smack!Down). No matter what, this company can't continue to succeed off the reputation and name recognition it built itself 15+ years ago forever.
