YOU'RE NEVER TOO OLD TO SKATE, NOW GO OUT AND SHRED
YOU'RE NEVER TOO FAT TO SKATE, NOW GO OUT AND SHRED

SKATEBOARDING IS 90% MIND, 10% BODY

skatepark etiquette: cheer when someone lands something they've been trying for a while, even if its just an ollie down a 3 stair

I have an old 7.75 board from a decade ago. The bearings aren't spinning well, board is worn under tail and nose, griptape kinda fucked. I think I want to get a new setup, but have it be 7.5 instead. Is it a good idea? I'm 107 lbs, 5'7", size 9 shoe. I'd hate to waste money and see the board be too small. I've never got too into skating but I want to be more dedicated this time.

There is no such thing as pushing fakie. Some people push switch for a fakie trick as well.
>>
>>2944482
Literally zero reason to go below 7.75 unless you're a small child or a literal girl. I'd suggest getting an 8 even, it's the safest and arguably the comfiest size.
>>
>>2944569
Are you sure? I'm a short skeleton with size 9 shoe. I thought a while ago 7.5 - 7.75 were most common and 8s were rare.
>>
>>2944616
Yeah that was the case a while ago, but now literally everyone rides 8 and up. There also isn't that big a difference between 7.75 and an 8, but 7.5 is just baby tier. Size 9 also doesn't seem that small, and there is no rule that states what size board you ride according to your shoe size, it's all preference.

Why there are two threads for this same topic?
>>
>>2945199
the anon who usually make them says he was going away for a while, so two different anons made a general.
>>
>>2944932
>>2944516
Wish you guys would just accept that people who longboard will come to the skate general. Trying to keep two skateboarding generals up on this wrestling infested board is impossible.

Why exclude people?
>>
>>2945258
I didn't say they shouldn't come into the thread? most longboards are pin tails or drop thrus with like 0 concave and no nose and no tail. I do wish they would make their own generals because it would combat the wrasslefag cancer threads.

>>
>>2947711
people love spitfires because of the flame dude advertising

redpill: wheel brands don't matter as wheels are the least quality dependent part of the board except for hardware
>>
>>2947711
>>2947968
Wheels actually do matter, some brands get flat spots way easier than others, but I can't tell which yet, because I haven't gotten through enough wheels, and I don't really do powerslides.
>>
>>2945258
Because how would it add to discussion? The two things have absolutely nothing in common past the wooden planks and 4 wheels. Should we invite BMXers and knitters into these threads too?

yo asp, i borrowed a friend's longboard for a couple of days and learn how to ride on it.
it's something i really enjoy doing, he took it back and im interested in getting a skateboard, it seems more versatile and more portable than a longboard.
im not really into tricks but useful jumps and stuff like ollies seem easier to do on a skateboard.
im mainly looking for something to get to places fast with and something i dont have any issue carrying around with me.
any help choosing a board, wheels, brand etc would be appreciated.

Any brand deck 8.0 or up, any wheels 56-58mm 80d, thunder or independent, mid or high trucks, bones reds bearings, hardware doesn't matter also you'll probably get free grip tape but get mob if you don't
>>
>>2954383
To go around the city I use a cruiser. Is small, can reach high speed, the soft bigger wheels can handle shitty surface, can still jump and raise the nose.

Any scouse anons in here?
Boys I've got a couple problems I'd love some help with.
1. I swear way too much when skating, even in shorts (fuck sweat stains)
2. I can't mentally persuade myself to use my knees enough
>>
>>2954752
1. Stop being fat. If you're not fat (you are), it's genetic, some people just sweat more. Waxing if you're a hairy gorilla could help.
2. This isn't English. Using your knees more in skating would mean injuring them. If you mean squatting more when landing and popping, work on mobility, and get some actual leg muscles, and not on smith machines and leg presses, but using more natural movements.

Hi friends

Any tips on how to nail an ollie while moving? Keep in min I can barely do an ollie while still, so I guess I should work on locking that down first?

Also, longshot: alguien de Guayaquil, Ecuador aquí?
>>
>>2955274

Ollie up a small curb. Then ollie back off of it. Practice this for a month and then occasionally try and see if you can ollie over something small.

You could gradually make it harder by finding a bigger curb, or ollie up and down a 2 stair. Before ya know it, youre ollie while moving!

Assuming you're a fellow noob. If not, apologies.

The sweating goes away once you've done enough. If you're fat, the lard insulates heat that your muscles produce; only thing you can really do is stay hydrated as fuck (two mouthfuls at a time, more goes right into your bladder) and maybe wearing a sweatband or cap or something for when it'd drip down into your eyes.

Bending your knees is only easy once you've got muscles in 'em, which only happens after you've pushed wood for long enough. It's also possible that your relevant muscles are just stiff, and if they're stiff you might end up not using them so much, so they'll wither away. Stretching and warm-ups may help. Consciously putting weight on both the balls and heels of your feet may also begin to help, eventually.

So, like, congrats, you now have two great reasons to push more wood.
>>
>>2957311
>all of this sweat broscience
>>
>>2957378
Everything boils down to broscience on /asp/, sir, even if it's directly quoting an authoritative source citing widely-accepted consensus. For proper information, look up articles by sports doctors and endocrinologists on real health websites. But like, the sweatband or cap trick, that's the bomb, and I don't see how a doctor's gonna refute any of it.

Also, how into freestyle?

Long shot but has anybody tried a board made of bamboo? Im kinda intrigued to try one but they're pretty expensive
>>
>>2961085
Never heard of a bamboo board, only of normal boards with 1-2 bamboo plies in them.
>>
>>2961109
Yeah they're pretty uncommon, theres a company in Hungary that makes them and they're entirely made from bamboo and carbon fibre. I think it's a cool idea but I don't wanna be memed. The only review I found of them was some old English sperg
>>
>>2961161
I personally don't see any benefits. Meme products can onlt be justified if they work, like that meme grip that doesn't tear your shoes and supposedly feels like normal griptape.

In my mind, if pros can do flip tricks on 15 stairs and not break their regular boards, I can ollie a 5 stair just fine.
>>
>>2961174
Only benefit is that bamboo is really strong and is more replacable for the enviroment but yeah it's pretty meme, especially the price.

>>2961914
I don't know, but when I used to watch garret ginner (I know), he had a bamboo deck sponsor and he'd always snap brand new boards easily.

Bamboo Skateboards are generally more expensive because you can't cut 8"+ plies from bamboo stalk which makes the processing a whole lot more complicated and uses more glue. Bamboo is used for long boards a lot because it basically won't ever snap and you need that for a board with a long wheel base. It's supposed to be good for skateboards too but who knows if it'll ever catch on. Change is a pretty hard thing to bring about. Maple is the standard and people don't want anything else.

I get this shit with my knee, fucking sucks ass
>>
>need a new deck
>don't remember what size my deck is
>around 8ish
>get 8'25''
it sucks. it's too heavy to carry around, it's too hard to flip it, it's too big to comfortably stand inbetween my legs when I need both hands to do something, I'm scared of credit card, etc

Should I go back to 8' or do I just wait to get used to it?
>>
>>2976312

go back to an 8
>>
>>2976312
yes
>>
should i go for 7.75 or 8? shoe size 40eu/7us
>>
>>2977494
Doesn't really matter all that much. Quarter of an inch isn't going to make that much of a difference.
>>
>>2977515
guess i'll get an 8 then, i've been eyeing one for a while, thought it would make a bigger difference since i have small feet

Hello. I was wondering, is there any body type that would just be totally unsuitable for skateboarding? I'm a large guy and always wanted to try it, but wondering if there's even a point considering my size. I'm not fat, more that I do powerlifting meets etc.
>>
>>2975207
Basilisk guy represent.
>>
>>2977787
I quit skateboarding for powerlifting when I was 17, and unironically I'm better now after not having touched a skateboard in 8 years. Did two personal nbds within a few hours.
>>
>>2977731
On first glance it just looks like you're skating some 20$ shit from the thrift store so anything could be wrong with it. It's most likely your bushing that have gone to shit that's causing the board to steer on its own. At this point I'd just tell you to get a completely new setup.
>>
>>2977871
They were fine on my other deck though. And I don't nee a new setup lol; at most new trucks
>>
>>2978028
lol ok buddy
>>
>>2978088
like new what? wheels? the deck is new. wheels are ricta clouds and they look fine i.e. no flat spots. bearings are just reds which are probably rusty asf but they wouldn't make the shit go sideways. what's the point of getting a whole new setup do you think i have money m8
>>
>>2978140
Get new trucks at least, those ones you have look like they don't fit the 8.25 very well and they're pretty beat up. Could be that they're too tight or the bushings are destroyed but I don't really know from looking at it
>>
>>2977731
the holes in the deck that you put the hardware through are ovaling out. That just happens. It doesn't affect your skating at all. It only has an effect when you're not standing on the board. Try tightening your hardware if you like, or just grab and twist your trucks in the opposite direction to the way it's veering.

p.s. your set up looks like shit. Arethose trucks 129mm and 9 years old or something? lmao
>>
>>2977787
I'm 90 kg and I can pop higher than any of my friends

Speed squats baby
>>
how do i learn how to skate or go to the skate park without any friends that skate? i can ride fine and can go fast, but nothing else.
>>
>>2979882
I mean, there's only one way to learn transition. Maybe go earlier or later in the day to not get in a ton of people's way, but if you want to learn how to go up and down shit, you just gotta go and do it.

as for your solitude, I find skateboarding to be a good way to meet people who skate,
>>
>>2976312
Same problem here, I decided to go with a 7.875, and even though there is a very marginal difference, it feels good for me, so I would recommend you give it a try.

Rolled my ankle, got cray friction burns on my knee and leg and may have broken my wrist (hospital can't tell from the xray). All in the one slam. I'm hurting guys.
>>
>>2981876
What did you do my guy? I hope your limp wrist isn't broken. You'll be good in a month.
>>
>>2981976
I wanna say it was something impressive but I'd be lying, I was warming up after a rest and bailed olling over a hip somehow, think my back wheels landed on flat and the front landed on the tranny. It just kinda stopped and the momentum threw me to the ground.
>>
>>2977713
Loosen then re-tighten your trucks. but if that does'nt work skating it a bunch will. This has happened to me and my friends before, something about it sitting around too long.
>>
>>2982187
That's skateboarding for you. I literally broke my board on a 3 stair ollie. Sometimes life is fucked.
>>

done something similar, thought I rolled my ankle ended up breaking a bone doing a kickflip off a simple 2step.

Just don't allow it to defeat you, make sure to get back on the board when you're healed.

But you bought the shit models. Did you order online without having a chance to try them on. The ultra range and the TNT are supposed to be the good ones.

No tried them on. Figured they would break in a little more but maybe I just don't skate hard enough.
>>
>>2989968
Nah, I've tried those on at a shop before, and I instantly knew they would stay stiff like that. It's just how the shoe is designed. That's why they made the ultra range. They look perfect.

ultrarange suede lasts forever but man the rest of the shoe falls apart like instantly

True, parfocal zooms do that. I think it may just be the distance changing as well, but in any case it's well thought wrt how the steps come into the frame.

Just copped the adidas suede velcro matchcourts. In theory with the toecap, suede, and velcro straps, these should last until the sole goes right?
