One day I'm going to get me some Halloween cabbies. One of these days...
So my nephews crab crawled out of his shell today and has just been laying on it all day.
He got it a week or two ago and he's hardly active, he even looks dead sometimes with how little he moves. I read that they like to live in communities so I got him a buddy yesterday at the pet store, but after being introduced the new crab hides in the corner, and the first crab came out of his shell for the first time and has just laid on his shell all day.
What's up with him, is he dying, molting, mating? Really unfamiliar with crabs so I hope I don't look like a huge retard with a dead crab.

Maybe he doesn't want to look like a faggot wearing a green bedazzled shell.

It came in that shell from a shitty mom and pop shop. Never going local again.

Whats the entire setup like?

It's still in the temporary plastic house until next week when it'll be transferred to a proper tank.

Theres your problem.
Hermits generally only do what is described when they're about to die of stress, usually from improper conditions.

So it's stress and not molting?
That makes me feel bad honestly. The crab was a gift sprung onto him with no notice from a family member and they didnt really give any proper equipment to take care of it long term. Would he really be getting stressed now though a few weeks in and not after a few days? And is there anything that can be done to destress him?

A good handy usually destresses me.

Just a good environment. Remember the deep substrate, and the 2 water bowls (one with saltwater) especially.
Yes, stress takes a while to build up to deadly levels.

Can anybody tell me about keeping slugs? They've always fascinated me, but I don't know the first thing about slug care or where to get one...
This invasive species to Canada sure is gorgeous.

I didn't know you could get amblypygids as pets. I totally want a crabby spider pal now.

she's fun to watch hunt but she spends like 20 hours hidden and is a spaz when it comes to handling. she'll just be standing on your hand and a fucking molecule of air passes by and she teleports to your shoulder. i'm scared i'm gonna drop her so i don't handle often.

Arion rufus usually isn't that pretty.
Most of them are brownish red to black, all one color.

>The hermit crab is going to die from stress because of improper conditions.
>He just gets out of his shell and hopes that something eats him to end his suffering.
