What's a good way to start playing video games for someone that's never played video games?

I think the 3ds is a good start. That's how I started playing. I like Animal Crossing, Professor Layton, Pokemon and a bunch of others. Just finished Okami Den. So many fun ds games available on the cheap.
My boyfriend just introduced me to Skyrim on pc and I like it a lot.

Something more casual like nintendo or so.
But like the everyday gamer thing download steam and get like a fps or a free mmo.

Don't do it senpai.
You'll waste so much time.

Bad idea senpai.

Play Dark Souls
It will solve you're issue.

Dark Souls was the first game I bought when I bought my first game console (I liked the cover artwork and the general mood of the packaging).
Even though it took me ~100 hours to get to Lost Izalith, I never regretted the purchase.

I started off with Dark Souls 2
Took me over 200 hours to get to the end

If you must,
learn Chess
Its good
If you have a computer. Start playing some flash games. If you have a phone. Play some addicting games. Then start moving on to more advanced games.
That or just go look on youtube for some cool looking games

Don't start, you'll regret it.

Katamari.

Honestly, katamari sounds like a pretty good date
I would suggest starting with some cheap indie games on steam.
Don't. Waste of time.

if you want to start playing video games, you should always start with dota 2, then hate your life because you suck at it and everyone hates you on it because you always play 0/20
dont play LoL or dota
consider the wind waker, or viewtiful joe
Play half-life, it's easy and good.

if you're going with this suggestion, it may be easier to have more lighthearted games on the side to cleanse your palate. if you mess up, it's not the game's fault, it's because you made a mistake.
btw, bloodborne is slightly easier
