Trying to figure out what to do with color. One of the first times actually trying to add color in a long time and I'm not sure what to do with it. Thinking about colors for the species, dark red with lightened areas(not shown here) or another pale color.

Could always color them like the different species of dolphins or orcas. Each clan having a different color pattern could seeing how they're set up. If you really want to go all out you can have them change color/pattern like cuttlefish for different reasons. Like certain color/pattern repetitions mean different things. One for mating display, threat display, content meant, competing for a mate, playing, etc.

There's several different types of color in animals that mean different things for the species. Camouflage, whether it's to help them hunt or hide. Bright warning colors to signify they venomous/poisonous or pretending to be by mimicking the colors of actual creatures with venom/poison. You also have species that one gender has bright/intricate colors to attract mates, think like how male peacocks have those huge colorful tail feathers. This is seen in prey species more, but color patterns meant to confuse predators and make it harder to single out a single member when a group is together, like zebra. This sort of thing can help you flesh out the species mannerisms.
The certain color/pattern for mating can also be used for laughs when a human is wearing that color/pattern and your species think the human wants to mate.
