Nothing if you're using it for a visual novel.
Everything if you're using it for these sorts of games.

There's a good reason these updates and the modularity to the games takes such an immensely long time. It's a ridiculous amount of work to go add something, then have to backtrack through a bunch of other scripts to make sure those changes don't fuck up everywhere.
It's the exact same problem that CoC had, there was no foresight into making the game modular (and by extension moddable)

Building a framework that uses a more MVVM approach would mean you could add, say, a new character and a bunch of dialog without having to restructure anything.
You wouldn't need to add a bunch of additional scenes in additional script files. You just add the character class in, and write out the dialog. Then you pop the scene according to whatever values, and the scene class hydrates itself properly.
No fucking around with 900 lines of dialog in 30 script files rechecking variables every time.

Far as I can tell the triggers are only there if shes at 5 corruption (which certainly correlates with my experiences thus far, that she only shows up in hallway for the first event or so).

And my copy of costumes.rpy doesnt have a hidden comment, damned tricksy hodgepodged python scripting. Maybe I should look up a better extractor rather than just tying together a bunch of scripts with duct tape and string... I like what little artwork there is so far. The colored pencil style line art, model proportions that could pass as human, nice color palatte, all looks good to me. Can't wait to see the rest.

Actually he isn't.

He's improving, which is great, but he still doesn't have a grip on anatomy, composition, nor perspective. I'd call his coloring "passable" except he never places the light in a picture in a single place. Shadows come off of every surface at random angles.

This is his literal only selling point. The characters he chooses and the situations he creates them in. If he did simple portraits or character studies no one would be interested in his work whatsoever.

Every other person associated with SleepyCabin is a better artist, bar none. But I'm rooting for Shad, because I like the choices he makes in characters, designs, and scenarios. He needs to take a couple of basic anatomy courses, learn where all the bony landmarks are, where all the muscles insert, memorize basic proportions, etc. And then he needs to spend a few weeks practicing lighting still life illustrations. And then I can't interact with anyone anymore. Violet wont open her door and Helen can't be found in any setting anymore. Is there some point where the demo runs out of random scenes? Or is it bugged?

If this is the extent of the demo, here's some feedback:

Serviceable. The characters look unique and pleasing enough. Gotta finish those backgrounds, of course. I don't like the real world images for the books/movie covers etc. Too out of place.

Having unique sound clips kick in during events is fun, but they should be short and to the point. Also, you might want to pull the background track down so they don't overlap, sounds like a mess.

I don't actually feel like I'm doing anything yet. I answer some questions, try to chase helen through the house, and I guess she's getting naughtier? Is time passing in the demo? Is there a way to see the time? Sleeping seems to only cause Helen to lock her door.

It's a good start I guess, but I would hold off on a demo release until you can actually see the scope of the game even in some small part. A dozen random scenes isn't enough content to be a demo, more of a proof of concept.

Then again, maybe this demo is more complete but bugs are stopping me from seeing the actual "game" content.

I think I know whats happening there. Each little scene raises her corruption by five. The tiers are in intervals, from 5 to 50. However, it seems that she doesn't actually cap at 50.

So once you hit 55, there aren't any events that it recognizes to trigger, so you just end up wandering aimlessly. Early proof of concept demo, works well enough for what it is.

Ok, so two things you need so do if that's the issue, 1. put somewhere a label that resets "out of range" variables to an in-range area, and 2. make sure to always leave in "else" conditions, or "if variable >= 50" conditions, ones that will always be true even if the value gets way over what it's intended to be, rather than having every situation capped at a specific number. Really most events should be set as a sequence of >= or <= conditions, so that you don't accidentally skip any.
