I doubt it.

Generally speaking, size content in mainstream media doesn't lead to any significant increase in new sizefags. Not just because sexuality/fetishism doesn't work like that, but because the average person watching the show doesn't even know that the fetish itself exists, nor thinks to try to look it up.

We might get some new Rick and Morty size art, both by community members and maybe even by outsiders who found the concept amusing. But the extent of it will probably depend on how far that particular episode/scene goes. Remember that Rick and Morty has had a whole bunch of size-themed scenes/episodes in the past (including a direct parody of the Fantastic Voyage), and the larger "size community" didn't get much from those. Similarly with recent giantess scenes in popular cartoons like American Dad.

I'm not much for art critique, but other than echoing >>1526430's comment about parts of it being a little off-model, it looks pretty nice to me! :) I guess the size of the illustration makes it a little difficult to discern much detail of Reaper, but I don't think that's a critique so much as just a bit of a limitation of the scale you were working with.

Fair enough, I get that it can sometimes be a little hard to put your art out there when you're not personally satisfied with it yet. Though I'll say that I think your stuff is pretty cool! Certainly room for improvement, but I guess that just comes with practice. I think you'd get a reasonable following on a site like tumblr or DA (especially if you were regularly offering requests), and putting yourself out there might provide a little bit of extra motivation to continue to improve? I dunno really, I'm terrible at advice.

Yeah, I think the only real way to get used to it is to just use it as much as you can. I don't do any illustration work, though I do use a tablet for Photoshop stuff, and I remember it being a real pain to get used to the "feel" of it compared to a regular pencil/paper. (I also have terribad hand-eye coordination!)

I'm not sure it did. Rather, I think it's a case where, upon asking furries what their early memories about "furryism" were, it'd be watching that movie as a child. Some folk being "intrigued" by anthropomorphic animals in a childrens cartoon isn't exactly the same as "making furries a known thing". It certainly wasn't advertised that way (while movies like Zootopia arguably were). I guess furries are just significantly more popular/visible online that if you are a furry, you'd easily find the online furry community. I don't think the size community is -as- visible or obvious.

I mean, if you ask around the size community, you hear lots of similar cases where people name the various mainstream movies/tv shows which made them realise they had a "thing" for size scenarios. Honey I Shrunk the Kids is one of the big ones, as is the Disney Alice in Wonderland cartoon, the old B-movies like Attack of the 50ft Woman, etc. Those are mostly pre-internet examples though, so not directly applicable to this discussion ... but the fact of the matter is that we haven't seen big sudden influxes of new sizefags following any of the mainstream size content in the last 10-20 years. Heck, the fetish got quite a lot of attention in the last few years due to the poorly interpreted Pornhub stats, but even that didn't lead to an influx of new sizefags.

As someone who used to be a big fan of the game, I know next to nothing about the lore. I stopped some time after the Ravnica sets, so all these new Planeswalkers are somewhat foreign to me, but I've been slowly getting back into it.

I know Liliana is all about necromancy, so there's something there for her decimating living armies only to raise them back up as zombies moments later. Possible fascination, on her part, on the act of eating living flesh, like her zombie minions love to do. Plenty of spells centered around growth of creatures, so having her grow to giant size isn't out of the question.

Downsizing releases later this year. We should maybe expect an initial trailer/teaser anytime soon. There have been a few articles which talk about a ~10 min preview of the movie which includes a bunch of early shrinking content. Maybe they'll show that at some point?

This movie has better potential for attracting new folks to the size fetishes than things like, say, Ant-Man ... but I still think it's a stretch, for the reasons I mentioned a few posts ago.

Trying to find ways to make a premise like that not sound retarded is step one. Two is trying to make it not look overtly sexual (even though it totally is). Three is actually making it entertaining. Fetishism/sexuality just doesn't work like that. Children aren't going to see Gigantic (or any other film with size themes) and suddenly have the macrophilia/microphilia switch primed for their puberty years. Movies with size content simply don't seem to -make- new sizefags.

When people talk about remembering having seen old movies/tv shows with size themes, they almost always talk about remembering them -because- they had already had the size switch flicked in their brain. Past-puberty folks might watch size themes in some media (or stumble upon some size fetish art online) and -realize- they're attracted to it, but I don't think I've yet heard anyone argue that seeing some size themes in a movie/tv show/game/etc -gave- them the fetish.

What we might see in a decade or so are a new generation of sizefags simply remembering Gigantic (or whatever other film) as one of the earlier "big" (hue) size memories, much in the same way the mid-20s sizefags report Honey I Shrunk the Kids or FernGully. But we won't be seeing folks saying "so my step-mother took me to see Gigantic and wtf suddenly i want her to ask me if I like that little man?"

I agree, at least for the near future. But like the other anon suggested, I think it's a concept they could probably get away with making if they made it a little comedic, maybe pushed the "girl power!" angle, things like that. It's unlikely they could do a "serious" version of it any time soon.

I don't think the existence of the size fetishes is much of a barrier here either. I mean, Zootopia was a movie aimed at kids, and they literally advertised -directly- to furries.

When you ask around, most people say that they've always had an affinity for size themes, even prior to puberty. It seems to me that people tend to remember many of these movies/tv shows/books/etc with size themes -because- they already had the affinity, not because they suddenly "flopped the switch". These sorts of memories also seem to be cumulative, people tend to talk about enjoying a number of these movies/shows/etc as they were growing up, it's usually not as cut and dry as "I saw this one movie this one time and afterwards I totally liked size stuff".

The thing is, there are a load of really odd fetishes based on themes which don't really exist in the mainstream media or popular culture, at least not to the extent that size themes do. If the "short-term exposure" hypothesis plays a significant factor, how do these fetishes develop? Further, given the relative popularity of size themes in most forms of entertainment media, why aren't the size fetishes much more widespread?

I think this is just a really big, complex mess of a topic. I doubt any given answer is going to be totally correct, fetishes undoubtedly develop in a number of different ways for a number of different reasons. But at the very least, I don't think it's as simple as "I watched a movie which included [theme], and something set in my brain which has caused me to have an irrational and irreconcilable attraction to [theme]".

I'm not really sure the association needs to be made, at least not for the folks who had a strong affinity for size themes (for whatever reason) when growing up. I think it's a little hard to judge properly.

Overall, whenever folks try to survey the wider "community", the percentage of women varies between something like 10%-30%. Some websites have a higher fraction of women, as do some niches/sub-fetishes. There's a much larger discussion to be had here about possible reasons for a relative lack of female involvement, but I guess that's not the exact topic at hand.

It's true that it's hard to find women who want to be proper giantesses, but it's also relatively rare to find men who want to be city sized (although they're easier to find than women, see the Coiled Fist website for example). It seems most common for people to prefer to be the smaller party in size scenarios. That said, there are plenty of men who are into SW, but seemingly few women who are into SM. I guess you could argue that this may be due to typical gender roles (women usually aren't seen as the dominant gender?), but it's hard to pin down exactly how significant factors like this are.

I would really like to find out how common these kinds of fetishes (macrophilia and voraphilia) are as a percentage value of the average population. Finding out would be a nightmare though. Yeah, it's difficult to pull much useful information from such small numbers and from only a single site. Gives a wink and a nod in the right direction though.

It's a similar reason as to why the fraction of female involvement in the size fetishes I mentioned in >>1529700 varies so much (~10%-30%). There have been a few attempts at "community-wide" surveys in the last few years, which have been passed around the various size fetish websites (the main sites, forums, chans, subreddits, etc). Yeah, that's fair enough, multiple accounts are annoying. However if you're mostly using Discord from a PC rather than mobile, you can pretty easily have one "main" account open in the actual discord app, and also a second account signed in simultaneously in a browser. I think the problem with discords for these small fetish communities is that there isn't enough actual fetish content to sustain constant on-topic discussion, so the discord eventually turns to off topic discussion. A few weeks of mostly off topic discussion creates a core group of a half dozen posters who are basically just friends at that point, and they do all the posting while everyone who wasn't as invested in the discord just lurks.

I certainly understand (and agree) with the point you're making ... but given the massive popularity of SM content in the community, it'd still seem a little odd to me if the lady-folk were unable to regularly find SM content that rubs them the right way. Especially if they were to hang out at places like Coiled Fist which features a lot of SM work from gay guys (that is, artwork which does significantly focus on the SM).

I think it's just one of those things which is hard to judge. For example, I've seen plenty of ladies around the community who have complained about a relative lack of artwork which focuses on giant men ... but I don't think I've ever really heard complaints about the lack of focus on tiny men.

At the end of the day, most of the artists in the community are straight guys, and they're making fetish-based artwork which appeals to -themselves- as straight guys. It's fetish content, so it's a little bit unreasonable to expect people to be actively producing content of something they're sexually unattracted to. So I'm not really sure what we might propose as a "solution" to this problem, how do you generate more of this sort of art in a way which doesn't involve simply trying to convince a bunch of artists to spend their free time producing art they have no interest in? Are there many (any?) female SM fans who are regularly commissioning artists to make this sort of stuff? Are there many (any?) female artists who are producing this sort of work themselves?

As always, this is a huge can of worms ... one which really is missing a lot of direct input from the lady sizefriends. I wonder if any frequent this thread, and if so, what their thoughts are?
