There's been characters I was very interested in drawing but felt I couldn't pull off the request.

Specific, but not in the way you might expect. I want to know the kind of artistic direction the requester is going for, but allowing variation in the posing. This is so you know that the reciever will get what they wanted. I think specificity is better, and that you would get better artwork because the artist would be more inclined to work when they know they are giving what the creator wants.
Of course, this leads to less artwork produced if someone isn't able to do what is asked but it encourages me to work harder on the art I do choose. Just make sure the request isn't just asking for a lewd.

I can't really say I do, unless you count MMO characters (I have an Au Ra girl on FFXIV that I used to get art of).

I do have ideas and an appearance jotted down for another dragon girl similar to Elea, though I've yet to get her drawn up.
She was going to be a somewhat sassy thief with scaled hands and feet which she could heat up to extreme temperatures, allowing her to 'emit' steam for use as a smokescreen, use them as potential weapons or a way to melt bindings (maybe even locks).

It's probably clear that I have a huge thing for dragon girls at this point.
