I'd be all for that idea, it does feel odd that at this point in the story Luffy is sort of inconsequential to most powerful enemies in his base form. Allowing him to just be creative from a default stance would be a massive quality of life benefit for the series. If Luffy grew up without a DF he'd be just as strong (or stronger because he could swim) as he is now, but he didn't.

He got a DF that turned his body to rubber and he had to relearn everything as a result, his body no longer behaved normally since that point. It would make no sense for him not to have figured some interesting shit out about is own body in the 15 or so years that passed since he consumed Gomu Gomu, and almost all of Luffy's formed memories would be of after he ate it too.

I'm surprised you find them disappointing, they're effectively magical items that Big mom has made to enhance her abilities. Like a pair of magical knuckle-dusters with massive elemental effects on her surrounding which she can influence, yet they can also move independently of her too. Add in a magical talking hat-sword and she's got the whole spectrum of abilities covered.

Her biggest strength is likely to be physical though, if the spoilers are anything to go by she's overwhelmingly strong when rampaging.

Add in to that the entire concept of homies, which makes up a massive part of her territory's infrastructure and you have an ability that is incredibly versatile. She likely has one of the strongest forces under her command, many of which would be unlikely to have human traits, thus eliminating a ton of weaknesses that human forces are likely to have.

Yes there are other impressive abilities in One Piece, but it's been made very clear that Big Mom's are incredibly powerful, the only reason the Straw Hats and the alliance are even attempting anything is due to a secret weakness that Bege learned of through being in Big Mom's crew and being lucky enough to see her grazed knee.

I think she's built up to be like Enel in that Luffy and his crew counter Big Mom. Big Mom is OP once you include zeus, prometheus, and napoleon. Luffy automatically eliminates Zeus as he can't be affected by thunder. Big Mom can also cause huge rainfall from zeus, but it's useless against Luffy because he has Jinbe to back him up. So already Big Mom was weakened by the counter abilities of the SHs.

So it's possible for Big Mom to be easier for Luffy compared to other yonkous, while at the same time she's still as strong as them.
