So I delved into it and researched a little bit. Granted my Japanese is not the best but I got a pretty clear understanding how these things work now.

First, there are a few big companies who offer a custome figure service. You hit them up with an idea/illustration of a character and they will model them in 3d before producing them. The quality can vary from company to company, but some of them have pretty good portfolios, producing prototyp models for bigger releases.

Price wise it all depends on the size, ranging from nendos to 30cm figurines. A 30cm one clocks in at about $4000 while a 15cm one is at about half of it. Granted, the price varies on how detailed the figures are, how many accessoires there are and if clothing should be removable. Honestly, they went out of their way to confirm that there are very little things that are not possible.

Now, theere is a huge problem: Since most of these companies work for bigger figure companies, they will not do any copyrighted material. Anime characters, no matter how old? Out of the question. Your XIV character? Nope. Your shiney, sparkle OC with butterfly wings and 3 cocks? No problem!

Anyway, my earlier advice wasn't actually the best; instead hit MFC, look up a few standing figures you like in 1/8, 1/7 and (if you're a filthy lewd buying degenerate) 1/6 to see where you stand height-wise. The shelves look adjustable so there's wiggle room but no matter what your display is going to look like shit unless you can move those papers elsewhere entirely.

Dust really isn't terrible. Basically so long as you clean it off before plasticizer leak makes it stick on there's no problem and newer figures seem to leak less. How often you need to dust depends on environment but once every 2-4 weeks seems to keep the girls looking good in most places.
