Actually, I like Mari and Kate, but I felt that Mari didn't seem to be as strong of a character than Kiyoshi? There was a lack of Kiyoshi during the calvary games, even though his near death experience was the best part of it, and the arc itself was drawn out, but...I felt that Mari really couldn't really hold her own during it? I understand what Mari wanted, but I felt that the stakes didn't seem high enough for me to care? I was wondering if that was the reason the arc seem to have fallen flat with a lot of people.

If Mari was a stronger character would the cavalry battle not seem as boring and drawn out as it felt?

Well, let me clarify. Hiramoto's definitely proven himself capable of using those kinds of concepts effectively, in fact he's already done that with other characters.
What I'm saying is, a lot of Hanafags are reaching for something that is only one sided. I feel like backpedalling and making Kiyoshi fall for Hana after all defeats the purpose of her character.
If we're gonna get psychological, I'm much more interested in the idea of Kiyoshi having to either grow and mature as a man or stay a perverted boy, and Hana having to reconcile that the boy she likes is in love with somebody else.
But that's just me though, the series gives enough room for everybody to take something different away from it which is why there's so many different opinions. It's what makes the series special, in my opinion.

To me, Hana is a character who needs to learn to grow without Kiyoshi. Notice how a lot of her development is directly correlated to Kiyoshi, and we never see any development outside of that. Her actions show that she's only either going to get hurt or keep hurting Kiyoshi. And I'm not advocating for a Chiyo end here, I was only pointing out that she at least has a crush on him. Like I said before, I think Kiyoshi should be single and it's actually for the same reason as Hana, he'll just get hurt or hurt others. I, definitely, agree that Kiyoshi is head over heels for Chiyo. I'm in no way denying that. Yet, there's still a LOT of symbolism and metaphor in this story that can be read into various. Also, because everyone is unique it's all going to be interpreted differently depending on who is reading it. In that case I find it unfair to lambast and attack people for not reading it the way YOU read it. All it does is shit up the thread and discourages actual discussion.

Now this is completely different from Marifags who are reading things that don't even exist in the story, at all. Yet, they are still giving their interpretation of things and I would prefer that they just discuss the story rather than attacking people, because they are upset that their ship isn't sailing.

That being said, I agree. Kiyoshi x Chiyo is one-sided, because even if she does at least have a crush there's no way it's on the level that he loves her. So no, I wouldn't put Chiyofags and Hanafags on the same level...the smart ones, at least. The main difference is which of the two Kiyoshi loves, but ultimately, only time will tell where Hiramoto takes his story.

But to your point about honesty, because Hanafags are so much more vocal than Chiyofags, I find myself shitting on Hanafags more just on the basis of a lot of them being so cancerous. I felt the same way about Marifags but they seem to have died down. I've said before, I think Kiyoshi is going to end up with nobody. I'm just here to enjoy the ride, but a lot of waifushit makes it difficult. Which is mostly Hiramoto's fault for inciting that, but it also proves he's a good writer for making people care.
But y'know, there's actually people who only read this manga just for Kiyoshi x Hana. Which is upsetting because I feel the manga has way more to offer than just that.

This is what I mean. We don't really know, because we don't have enough information, yet. We know that Chiyo keeps staring at Hana, but she misinterprets EVERYTHING so we don't know what she's thinking. We don't know. Using that to insinuate that she has a crush is reaching. That was the joke of the entire slut arc. We were under the impression that she was jealous, but it proved to be false. I mean maybe she does, but there is no concrete proof yet.

I mean if that's the case then Hanafags have a stronger argument that he might like Hana, because Kiyoshi has actually tried to kiss her at one point. Like, he's made moves on her. He's even offered to perform cunnilingus on her. These are what can be interpreted as mixed messages. Even while alone Chiyo has done nothing of the sort to imply that she is interested in Kiyoshi romantically or sexually. Like, absolutely, nothing.
