Holy shit. Massive slowpoke but this scene was fantastic.
Can we have a great rants and character snaps thread?
If you just mean a good display of voice acting, ep5 of Owarimonogatari had fantastic voice acting pretty much the whole way through.
its a shame we don't have sound webms, I'd seen the parady webms and original and such around but without the voice and context that scene is a lot less impactful.
how so? she's a teenage girl, they do retarded shit like rant for 3 minutes at their childhood best friend out of jealousy of another girl
>English motherfucker, do you speak it?
Maybe i was wrong about anticlimactic but shinkai tend to be more subtle, here she runs to him in the rain, falls to the ground gets up again "yo saved me" , etc, is too staged.
But maybe I'm being extremely biased, you tell me.
I wish he'd do something new or let someone else do the writing. His works are visually stunning, but his writing is generally fairly bland and he recycles the same core themes in almost everything. It doesn't seem like his upcoming film is going to change that either.
I enjoyed it. Sodachi was an interesting character and I thought it revealed a lot about why Araragi is the way he is and how he came to become the person that he is. It was a bit refreshing to have a more character/mystery focused arc too, it reminded me a bit of Bake, except it wasn't as well directed. The resolution and how she took it probably could've been executed a bit better though.
I think it was fine.
Guy yells at grill, grill gets upset because guy is right, grill admits guy is right, grill cries in guys arms knowing they'd be separated forever.
How is this "overly dramatic"? It's a drama.
>he recycles the same core themes in almost everything
Perhaps he has had some personal trauma regarding losing a loved one due to distance?
That might be why movies like 5CM/S end up feeling so real.
It's a good theme that he knows well, and executes better than most other directors. Don't like the theme? Move on. He does it well and will continue to do so.
I liked 5CM/S much more than Garden of Words as well.
I watched it first too.
In fact, 5CM/S is such a good movie, I have a difficult time rewatching it. It makes me feel uncomfortable, which is why I like the movie so much.
However, gotta give credit where credit is due.
I feel that he has presented those bittersweet themes to perfection in something like 5cm/s. If I wanted that again I could just rewatch that one because it came out so well.
The problem with doing similar themes again is that he has to try and outdo himself which I'm not sure he can.
>do you want to be a pedophile?
One you originally responded to, I just want to see him apply his directing style and animation to something with a different theme/story. Pretty much everything he makes will be worth watching even if just for how beautiful the animation is, I'm just interested in seeing what he can do if he branches out a bit or animates someone else's story.
Well /a/ loves Hitler so I'm not entirely certain that's going to be an effective way of insulting their waifu.
Pretty amazing, saw this finally two months ago. Breath of fresh air to have a childhood friend call out their dense as fuck and delusional friend for making their life hell and making zero sense
Too bad sequel never
yeah, I pretty much just finished it. The lack of a sequel in any form is a bit of a buzzkill.
Good show overall, I thought, but the midway sudden harem was kind of bullshit. I could have happily accepted the Hatoko vs Tomoyo situation, them both loving MC made a lot of sense, but the others felt a bit absurd as anything other than friends or crushes.
Also thought episode 7-8s tonal flip was a missed opportunity when they just went back to being a light hearted comedy again, killing any momentum only to suddenly try being serious again in the last episode.
serious may not have been the right word. I mean serious in the sense that the drama suddenly got a bit real and it felt like shit was going to go down, even if it was only relationship bs.
Outside of them being pretentious and replacing 5 minute hypothesis with the name of the guy associated with it and a small pun exchange between Kanbaru and Araragi (which to be fair puns like it are usually either rewrite it in a way that fits or put TL notes/parenthesis, and puns aren't really funny if they have to be explained to you), their Owari subs were good. The typesetting in particular was really nice compared to how unreadable it was with HS.
Commie usually does a pretty job on Monogatari. Much better than Aniplex at least.
