This show isn't terrible, I held off on watching it due to a majoirty of anon's saying it was shit, but the character designs aren't bad. Why is it shit on?
Because kyoani is cool and there are actually people in this world who unironically dedicate their meaningless lives to sitting at a computer and complaining about a studio who draws cartoons.
Its fucking great, after the countless amounts of Hyouka zzzzz shitposting, and Nichijou shitposting, it should be obvious by now that any Kyoani show that gets shitposted against like that on is actually good as fuck.
>Nichijou: Unfunny Forced Animation
>Phantom World: Boring battle harem
You can see the trend here.
>people expecting battles and plot progression, not realizing they're watching a fucking Kyoani anime
>too much fanservice for retarded purists
What the fuck does characters designs have to do with a show being good?
Are you the same faggot who thinks a good opening means a show is good too?
Episodic shit is always whack in anime and the plot is non existent, not to mention the characters are not intresting at all and most people would probably forget about them all come next season.
But yeah go fuck yourself with your retarded ass statement.
Kyoani is like that hot girl at the club. She sure is good looking, and so you can't help approaching here and trying to strike up conversation, but once you do, you realise there's nothing of substance to her. She's completely dull and boring, having relied solely on her looks all her life, never having to offer anything more than a pretty face.
Well, you'd think Kyoani would have more taste.
Unless they really are making this bad on purpose so trolls will stop complaining that they don't do enough non-HS-based SOL shows.
Confirmed for never having watched the show.
To answer your question OP, the show gets shit on because it tries to court too many viewer bases. On one had, you have really interesting thought experiments on things like object permanence and subjective reality, then you have... um... telephone limbo games with more jiggle-physics than Gainax could have ever dared to dream about.
If it was just cute chuuni kids doing cute chuuni things in their after school club, it would have gotten the same reception as other KyoAni shows that came before it. As it stands, it's trying to present entry level philosophy while also cramming fanservice in at every opportunity. It doesn't mix well.
Also, not having a strong over-arching narrative basically drops this down to the level of 'after school monster-of-the-week shounen battle' anime.
It's a fun show, but its not a 'good' show.
Man you guys really like exaggerating the anime of fanservice in this.
Not counting the hot spring episode, the first few episodes of Haruhi have probably had more fanservice than Phantom World so far.
Pretty much. There are obviously much more egregious episodes, like ep. 10, which was pretty much non-stop Ruru service, and ep. 8 with the hot spring, but even in ep. 6, they gave Kurumi a sailor scout transformation, and Ruru is pretty much a floating fanservice device in any situation.
I never said other series had more or less. Just that this series has 'a lot'. Granted it the recent episodes, they've toned down Mai's need to basically erotically massage herself before every fight, but it's still a part of the show in a big way.
It's complete shit. I like GOOD harem anime like The Devil is a Part Timer, Seto no Hanayome, The World God Only Knows, and haremeqsue shows like Monogatari, Sakurasou, Clannad.
This show is about nothing, so the waifus should at least be good. But no, we have a Girl with giant tits and ass that only black people could like, and we have a dark skin girl, one of the ugliest things in all of anime.
Mai looks pretty spectacular with that getup.
>doing anything due to a majoirty of anons
Stopped reading there, fuck off and kill yourself.
It's a fun show, but it has the same problem Amaburi has. It's not the type of show contemporary Kyoani fan appreciates.
Not as bad as I thought it would be
