Why is Joey treated like a buffoon in the anime when he's one of the best duelists? He nearly won Duelist Kingdom and was only beaten by the literal king of games.
Standard Yugioh formula
There's gotta be a character we like who jobs a lot so MC can avenge him
In DM it's Joey
In GX it's that Obelisk Blue guy
In 5Ds its everyone who is not named Yusei
In Zexal it's Shark
In Arc-V it's the pink haired girl
He's poor and usually refrains from taking Yugi's charity so a lot of his deck is gambling based. Therefore its easy to attribute his wins to dumb luck and therefore not take him seriously.
Didn't he get Gilford from an ante though?
Ah, okay. Forgot about that. Still wonder where he got that, though I know the answer is just for plot convenience.
>Gilford legacy support when?
That's exactly what I want too. Gilford was always one of the cooler DM monsters; it's got a good design, arguably fits his deck more than Red-Eyes, and is like a mini Obelisk.
If I were him, I would have sold some of my super rare cards and used the money to build a consistent, competitive deck. He has tons of those cards they're useless in his deck anyway.
That's the biggest problem with this series. It's a pure shonen series, but instead of a unrealistic fighting series where the author could create whatever power level or nakama shit and readers could do nothing but accept since it's his imaginary world after all, it's about a card game which is exist in real life with establish, clear strict rule. As someone who's also play that game, I feel incredibly ashamed every single time seeing them dueling in the series.
enough of these games, i have won
The biggest jobber of the series is this guy. Dude is fucking perfect but always finds some dumb reason to lose.
The anime world is a bit different. They go heavy on the romanticism. The fact is, that ideally a card game or any game really would have room for you to play with your favorites and win assuming you had a decent strategy. The reality is that because they need to shill cards that doesn't happen and there's clear distinctions in power between decks and you can't take shit cards and support them to be good.
In anime world though they aren't shilling cards for other people to buy. We only run into like one, maybe two, other people that have Dark Magicians. Blue Eyes only has 4 copies ever printed. In later series, people apparently just magically create and obtain more archetype support for whatever deck they're running. None of the actual deck building rules apply in a world like that.
It's like if someone was running E-Drags, someone else would just magically, mystically, create archetype support for their deck that totally shut them out. So while I do get your frustration the whole world of the anime just happens to work off of a different "meta" if you will.
I think Sawatari's purpose in the series is to be made fun of for changing his deck up too often, it's like it's mocking him for not having faith in his cards and restyling his whole theme every time he loses.
Reminder that Arc-V let the MC literally pull shit out of his ass that no one in the history of Duel Monsters had ever seen or even known to be a facet of the game to turn the tide in a duel he should've lost and no one said anything just because computers said it was okay.
>"I'm going to use my polymerization card to fuse my mammoth skeleton to your blue eyes white dragon and that will make it melt because one card is undead and the other isn't!"
>"I'm going to aim cannon tortoise at your floating castle's gravitation ring and that will cause it to fall down on you!"
Forgivable because it's the original series and I like it better on principle. I mean I could say some bullshit like "it was before the tcg" but shit, might as well be honest with you.
If Kaiba is so rich why don't he just create his own overpowered cards?
No? Pendulum didn't exist within the established rules of standard. He basically created a new mechanic that was never seen before. With Duelist Kingdom you could do all that shit because Pegasus made the rules that way according to what Weevil told Yugi on the boat.
>Pendulum didn't exist within the established rules of standard
When people try to do things that are against the rules the system doesn't let them.
>With Duelist Kingdom you could do all that shit because Pegasus made the rules that way according to what Weevil told Yugi on the boat.
If you watched it you'd realise that nothing was mentioned about just making up effects. The rules were things like no direct attacks, 2000 life points and the special fields.
Victory is yours, but this 9 is mine
reminder that despite all the magic and shadow duels happening around him, the fact that he was LITERALLY transported to ancient Egypt after touching a ancient stone slab with his likeness on it
Kaiba DOES NOT believe in Egyptian magic
>actually believing in tricks and light shows
Logically speaking Kaiba shouldn't have lost to Yugioh once he lost exodia. I mean he has access to the best cards in the game and virtual reality simulations, only reason Yugi won was because of plot armour.
He won because he was the king of games and we learn later he has the power to literally will cards to the top of his deck. Also, in the show, it's supposed to be whoever is the most skilled wins the duels, whereas in reality, the game is all about luck/best cards.
Joey's deck fucking sucks, anyone who has ever tried making a Joey character knows this.
Playing through story mode in Yugioh Legacy of the Duelist is painful if you play Joey's levels using his story deck.
No his master was killed by Tao Pai Pai.
Who yes, can use Ki blasts but is such a fucking monster that he probably killed Satan's master with pure martial arts. Remember he killed Blue with his fucking Tongue and Blue was no pushover
I was always a fan of the TCG and still am to this day, so recently I've actually taken it upon myself to watch the anime.
Joey is by far the best character, he really grows as a character and a duelist and his duels are always the most fun to watch, it's great to see how well he does even when lacking the rare card privilege Kaiba and Yugi seem to boast.
though it's a shame even after all his accomplishments he is still treated like shit by his peers.
