This anime 2nd season might be the reason why I start hating seeing protagonist or character who ends up getting weaker for no reason other than plot. I really hate how Sora is being useless for more than half of the season.

That's because the second season (I believe past episode 24) isn't directed by Junichi Sato anymore. The 2nd season mostly drags with some heavy melodrama but it does get back to being as good as the 1st season near the climax.
