By episode 16, a lot has happened. A lot of what makes Eva are the character interactions, and psychology behind them. If you want "lOL trippy XDDD", then I think that happens around 18~, but I feel like you're going to be disappointed. What you've gotten so far is mostly what you're gonna get.

Well I personally just finished the series the other day along with EoE. At first I blew it off as low budget and trying too hard to be 2 deep 4 me. However, I have gone back a few times to watch it again and again to see what everyone is talking about, and in all honesty there was a lot more to the show than at first glance. Yeah it seems boring right now but trust me when I say that those episodes are important to the overall message/story it is trying to convey.

I'm glad I watched Evangelion at the right time (in the 90s).

I got into it thinking it was just a cool post-apocalyptic sci-fi giant robot series with strange enemies and that's exactly what I got on the first half of the series.
A few fucked up moments left me wondering what the fuck was that, like when you see Eva-01's real head on episode 2, embryo Adam on episode 8, or "Adam" on episode 15, but I still didn't know what was to come, it was all a surprise.

I pity those who were spoiled from the beginning and probably already know about the tang and everything before even starting episode 1.

Ritsuko's great just because she knows what's going on all series and is self-aware of her mistakes in the face of it. She even ends up treating Rei like more of a person than Gendou does out of hating her.

Evangelion left me with almost as many mental problems as Shinji. It wasn't a happy experience for me. It's definitely a mentally unstable anime.
