The liberties they took with the story in FMA actually improved it. Brotherhood abridged too many of the scenes which took away a lot of characterization. That, combined with the predictable and cliche "I am become God" plot, IMO makes Brotherhood way worse by comparison.

03 is better than Brotherhood. That's not a compliment for 03, Brotherhood was just shit. The earlier parts of the story that both shared were done better in 03 (better direction, better music, better pacing) but 03 turned to shit towards the end where it did it's own original thing.

Brotherhood followed the manga but didn't even do it that well and was even less enjoyable than 03's wacky nonsense.

Manga > 03 > Brotherhood is correct.

Envy doesn't play a huge role in the overall series but the first anime gave him the most attention. Also best character design. I don't care what anyone has to say about it but Arakawa has a pretty ugly drawing style. In both the manga and the Brotherhood anime he plays bigger roles towards the end but its still nothing substantial which is a shame. He's the only character I've ever felt legitimate emotions for after Hiei from YYH, who is my husbando from now until eternity.

A hundred times this. FMA was my life back in my weeb days and I was super amped for Brotherhood but then I watched it as it was airing and I couldn't have been more disappointed. Everything that made the first anime so good and the characters all so likeable was completely shit on. In my opinion, this is a shining example of the manga > anime idea not always being true. Sometimes the source material is better, sometimes they're both good, and sometimes the anime adaption is better. It depends how they're handled and in this case, the 2003 anime was handled the best.

In the 2003 anime, he was technically Edward's half brother. Hoenheim had a son with Dante, he died, they tried to bring him back and we got Envy.

Envy was the least likable sin.

In fact, all of them were pretty shallow other than Rage, and greed, who were great.

Envy had his small moment near the end when he gets turned into a bug and subsequently killed, but it didn't do much.

There was one I read years ago that involved him shapeshifting into a sexy lady, having sex with Ed just to fuck with him, then getting pregnant. Mpreg is ridiculous but it was actually a really good story and like so many others, it was never completed.

For some reason the good fanfiction, which is so far and few between its not even funny, is never completed but all the shitty ones seem to have endings.

It must have gotten deleted thanks to FF.N's bullshit rules, it only has 28 reviews but thats not right at all. When I was reading it, it had thousands of reviews. I bet she was pretty upset about losing all of that.

There was a YYH story that I really liked which was EXACTLY the same. Had a rough start but it got better, was deleted off FF.N for violating the rules, then it was never finished. The thing that upsets me the most about this one is that the author moved the story to MediaMiner and she made the last two chapters she ever uploaded locked, so you could only read them with a password. I don't think I ever got to read those chapters which still kind of irks me to this day, as pathetic as that is.
