Actually, reading while learning helped me a lot with grammar and general understanding.
It's also the only way to raise your reading speed, so it's pretty much necessary to invest some serious time in reading.
But something like VN + texthooker or an easy SoL manga with Furigana is probably better and faster than OCRing.
