Initial D is one of my personal favorites.

I really enjoy the characters, the idea of HYPE as fuck racing and how it's always super intense with those fucking sick euro beats.

I think it's an all around solid manga/anime.

I also really enjoy how close it follows actual drifting, obviously it's sometimes pretty unrealistic but most of the time it makes some sense.

I appreciate the effort he went through to make it seem like it's something that is actually done with enough practice, even though no one will ever race or drift like these guys.

Drifting isn't ever faster.

A 'grip' technique will always be faster than drifting. In rally it's used because they don't 100% know the track, and it's easier to line up for the next turn that way. The conditions also change depending on how many cars have gone through. Oversteer is also more predictable/preferable in shit conditions than understeer.

This is First Stage's greatest strength in my opinion. Me and my small circle of friends started watching it in high school, and we could all relate to it. Even if the only thing we had in common was that we all drove.
