I dont think his driving ability is unrealistic tho, I mean maybe the whole "fujiwara zone" thing, but his dad trained him since middle school to drive the touge extremely fast and in control.
I think his actual skill is pretty believable considering he's been driving illegally on extremely dangerous roads (while handling tofu) since 13.
But he should have had some losses at this point. Breaking his undefeated record would be an opportunity for character development.
>blowing his engine while chasing Sudo shouldn't have been "not a race, therefore it doesn't count."
>Joshima should have won, it's too conveniant that his body gives out only 1 turn away from the finish after 6 tied races
>that pro-racer Civic guy only lost because a squirrel ran onto the road, that's lame as fuck
He should have lost the last race against Shinji. It would have been a good ending for Takumi, and honestly a good way to start a spin off for Shinji, who was a interesting character.
>tfw the main character's bowl cut friend never shuts up and is an all around fucking cunt
I was hoping that he would die horribly, until I remembered that would mean an entire episode dedicated to mourning him. So instead I hoped there would be an episode where he would be put on trial for a rape conviction and found guilty.
Nah, he's pretty awkward and autistic in a robotic way, no amount of driving skill changes that. He did win an unrealistic amount, which ruins the tension but that's enough to make someone a mary sue.
He's more tolerable in the dub.
I don't know why but japanese find really fucking annoying people funny for some reason.
Probably that whole fitting in not rocking the boat thing they have.
I hated him, and I mean HATED Itsuki throughout the entire First Stage and throughout a lot of the Second. But he grew on me... somehow. Fourth felt kind of lonely without him and Takumis useless friends who appear to have given up on drifting or something.
No. Takumi forced him to back off because he was boxing in his Evo just as the road was about to narrow. If they had stayed side by side, both would have crashed. Sudo gave in first.
I hate this series. Mostly because it's held up as some driving gospel by bus riders.
The AE86 is a shitbox
Drifting is slower than a proper line
Downhill racing does not cure 3x horsepower advantage.
Braking is WAY more important than the attention it gets.
The gutter hook is complete garbage.
>blowing his engine while chasing Sudo shouldn't have been "not a race, therefore it doesn't count."
Nobody said that
See what Kyoichi says in that part again
He said in the racing world, a blown engine means defeat
And also that he didn't consider this a race cause Takumi was driving a literal shitbox
Heck, even if his engine hadn't blown, the result of the race was evident
It was the same shit Takumi said for his victory against Kyoichi after his victory in the rematch
How he didn't consider this a victory
Plus, he also lost to bunta
>The AE86 is a shitbox
That's why they upgrade it's engine into a monster one after the first season where the MC suffers his first loss
>Drifting is slower than a proper line
>Braking is WAY more important than the attention it gets.
They stop doing this shit halfway through the series
>Downhill racing does not cure 3x horsepower advantage
>into a monster one
Yes, the screaming race engine producing a massive 240 horsepower.
Common sense needs a citation? Unless the AE86 has figured out gravity fields, it gets to share the advantage.
When both people get it, is it even an advantage?
Any car can be fast when modified.
But certain negative characteristics remain. Like the live axle. And the limp noodle chassis. The inability to fit a decent amount of tire under it.
When modified drasticaly these are pretty capable. They are probably trying to emphasize that the differences between AE86 and other cars is more like in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBYbQYMAPYs
Even before Initial D the 86 was regarded as a phenomenal circuit and touge car. In fact the only reason Takumi has one is because he's based off Keiichi Tsuchiya kicking ass in an 86.
>Yes, the screaming race engine producing a massive 240 horsepower.
Stop being autistic, the answer is already given here
>Common sense needs a citation? Unless the AE86 has figured out gravity fields, it gets to share the advantage.
The thing is nobody is dumb enough like a nips to race on mountainside
So there's no way to confirm whether your argument holds true or not
>Oh, and hairpin corners are fucking boring.
confirmed for autist
His foot work is mesmorizing
Keiichi actually helped out a lot with Initial D. The visuals are exaggerated and the characters are cartoonish, but the actual logic behind the races is pretty spot on.
looks like old me on a highway
nowadays I only speed 5-10 over limit, with a max speed of 80. gotta go fast is not worth it after all the close calls you get in. I dunno how the fuck racers can haul so much ass on tight turns
D D D INITIAL D D D
WIN THE RACE OF UNIVERSE BABY
D D D MY CAR IS FANTASY
NUMBER 1 TO GET THE CHANCE BABY
TAKE ME HIGHER WITH YOUR SPEED
I NEED FIRE
man stop making me wanitng to buy a twingo. because I will do it.
Initial D is one of my personal favorites.
I really enjoy the characters, the idea of HYPE as fuck racing and how it's always super intense with those fucking sick euro beats.
I think it's an all around solid manga/anime.
I also really enjoy how close it follows actual drifting, obviously it's sometimes pretty unrealistic but most of the time it makes some sense.
I appreciate the effort he went through to make it seem like it's something that is actually done with enough practice, even though no one will ever race or drift like these guys.
best song comin through.
>so even pro racers can't pull that off.
You forget that Takumi is not a pro racer, he's something above the average professional.
HE IS THE FAMOUS 86 DRIVER OF AKINA PASS, DO NOT FORGET THE MERITS OF THIS DRIVER, YOU LACK COMPREHENSION OF THE 86, JUST LIKE ALL THE DRIVERS THAT RACED TAKUMI, YET HE STILL PREVAILED IN A GLORIOUS WHITE LIGHT ON HIM.
GO HOME SHINJI
I should ask /o/ but I have 5 active threads there so whatever
While I won't be delivering tofu like Dagumi, could I still use the cup-of-water technique to get gud at driving manual smoothly? Learned how recently and it's just the superior way to drive.
Ryousuke lost to a shitbox while driving a dorito-machine with 270hp. That's shit for someone whose actually driven professionally.
A GT86 is actually cheaper than an AE86, accounting for inflation. They're a bit slow and underpowered at only 200hp, because Toyota/Scoobaru knows every owner will mod the shit out of them like a S13 or whatever.
Didn't he like, seriously tuned down his car before racing Takumi? Even though that ave him better maneuverability and grip; that's still a pretty bad trade-off. Even Keisuke was stunned and thought his bro had gone bonkers
Maybe he wanted to defeat Takumi with an equal car. Had he gone to race Takumi with his usual car build, he would've clearly won.
Him defeating Kyoichi is the proof of this
He already did, but it was with an Scoobydoo WRX which isn't really fair.
He could have probably beat him with the cars reversed anyway. Guy can take a smoke break in the middle of a drift.
If you look at the actual track that they're racing on, the amount of time he'd be able to use the horsepower advantage is very lackluster. That's why he lowered it. I know they make the turns seem really fucking fast with the vroom vroom, but in actuality they're going relatively slow.
Ideally he should have tuned for a metric shitton of torque to come out of the corners like a bat out of hell
It was more of a 'level the playing field' type of tune for shiggles
There's tons of manga like that (rally racing, etc.) but most of them are untranslated and unscanned as well
You can't find even the raws of Shigeno's bike manga anywhere on the net
That shit also looks quite good.
It had an OVA, I suggest you go check it out
He'll have to go pro sometime. Street racing doesn't make money.
He should rally instead. Since drifting is actually faster on dirt/snow, unlike asphault.
Yeah, co-driver will be a perfect job for Itsuki.
Drifting isn't ever faster.
A 'grip' technique will always be faster than drifting. In rally it's used because they don't 100% know the track, and it's easier to line up for the next turn that way. The conditions also change depending on how many cars have gone through. Oversteer is also more predictable/preferable in shit conditions than understeer.
Wrong. I'm not going to bother explaining physics on 4chan at 5am. They have co-drivers explaining the turns ahead of them, so it isn't a lack of track knowledge.
Shit, drifting can occasionally be faster on asphault if the turn is tighter than the radius of the car. See:
NO MATCH FOR MY MISAFIRING SYSTEMU
how do you know what that sounds like?
>Shinji, who was a interesting character
The whole point of Shinji is that he is everything Takumi was before Project D. He races on instinct in his home course without any thought to the technical aspects of racing. Takumi beating him show that Takumi has evolved past pure instinct.
What with the new GT-86 anyway?
But Ryosuke overdose eurobeat all the time
>dark hair, indicating mystery, sharp face, will fuck your shit up and gets the full power from eurobeat
>hair pigment starts getting weaker, uses regularly, still looks menacing
>jawline gone, looks insecure, eurobeat is starting to eat him up
>dyed hair, but damage can be seen easily
>eurobeat pretty much destroyed his skin and facial structure, eyes look unfocussed, probably praying for another high soon
FBs (and even FCs) are absurdly cheap near me. Pic related is going for $5k.
The AE86 was technically sold to the American market as the Corolla GT-S (designated AE88). In Japan, the car was already popular in drifting communities by the time Keiichi Tsuchiya started driving them. Initial D is the reason there's such a huge demand for the car at home and abroad. Also, Toyota loves absolutely how popular it ended up being, which is why the FR-S is called the GT86 everywhere else. They even made this:
The GT86 is much heavier than the original 86 because of safety requirements and Takumi's 86 with the new engine has more horsepower than a GT86.
Of course Takumi would win. Takumi would win even in a minivan.
>go to /o/
>someone whines about how 86 are memecars but still wants to buy one and hates how expensive they are because they are memecars
That said Ive heard the car is pretty shitty
Could have had a cute gf, inherit his fathers shop and once in a while pound some challenger in the dirt but instead he takes some clone of himself and works as mover.
GriD didn't quite satisfy me in terms of touge, so I downloaded PS2 Special Stage game. It has the soundtrack and it will be good on emulator. Hope I'll enjoy it. At least it has a story mode.
It's Initial V. Also kill yourself
Eurobeat poisoning stages
>first stage: you still look okay, this stage is still recoverable
>second stage: eurobeat fucked your eye up and your hair turned brown
>third stage: eurobeat fucked your apex seals and jaw up, your hair returned to black
>forth stage: Your hair turned purple and your neck got longer. You may give some weird advices to your brother
>Fifth stage: your hair turned black again, your skin got fucked up and have you may have delusion as battling the grim reaper and shits
>have you may have delusion as battling the grim reaper and shits
That part becomes a lot more interesting if you view ryosuke as an addict who is starting to fall apart from drug abuse.
Nigga Initial D is a fucking classic
Should have ended after 3rd Stage though
>Dagumi is a tired, autistic japanese teenager
>he still drops the bitch as soon as he finds out he's getting NTRd
Why can't more anime protags be as based as him?
It was popular as fuck before Initial D, even outside of Japan.
Add the fact that it's a 30 year old boy-racer machine and you shouldn't be surprise why it costs what it costs.
It would still be pretty expensive if Initial D never existed.
Definitely overrated, but anyone who's ever driven one praises it for the fun and simplicity.
I know right?
Silvia-chan is wonderful.
>tfw most S13s get modded to hell and back.
At least pic related is tasteful to some extent.
I liked the series more when it was about a dopey teenager with a whore girlfriend who won races on his home course with a regular car.
Once he became the God of bullshit and luck with a fancy race car engine, a full pit crew and a genius giving him directions it lost some of its charm.
artstyle of fifth stage is good
don't make me fucking laugh
fifth stage made me fucking puke
Even the car CGI sucked balls
It sucked so much I had to switch over to the manga
Final stage had better animation cause it was an OVA series
Initial D upto third stage was pretty damn good; project D fucked everything up
This, First Stage a best.
Are you taking the piss? 4th Stage onwards is awful, zero charm and flash-tier 2D animation.
Only CG gets decent.
Plenty of drift events and jdm tyte fanboys in the US.
>those retrofitted projectors
>decide to rewatch because of nostalgia
What the fuck? I don't remember it being this poorly made.
Was the CG department paid in monopoly money to make this?
>Even if it's a bunch of fictional characters living in stylized 90's halfway across the world, it's about shit at least most of us can or could relate to
This is First Stage's greatest strength in my opinion. Me and my small circle of friends started watching it in high school, and we could all relate to it. Even if the only thing we had in common was that we all drove.
>tfw these cars will eventually become extinct thanks to emissions laws, teenagers, and people that torture these engines
watch battle stage
They remade those races with better animation
Though there's also the new movie which redid Takumi's first official race against Keisuke
But I prefer battle stage
Second stage and third stage are also pretty based
Anything after that was garbage
There are loads of cars even older than the AE86 that are still on the road. I wouldn't worry about it.
