The final fight in Scryed is up there for me. Especially the last part where they run out of power and just start wailing on each other, that kind of unrefined brutality is a breath of fresh air compared to most anime fights in which everything feels staged because it's too clean and choreographed.

there's a lot going wrong with this post. From assumptions about the previous poster's intent, to assumptions about how the manga industry works, and general misunderstanding of dragonball as a franchise, not to mention just plain lack of taste.

To put it simply - the Dragonball manga is pretty good. Has some dumb plot points, and when it's playing things for serious instead of for fun those dumb things stand out more. But the action is consistently great.

The anime ruins a lot of good things from the manga, and adds in a whole host of other problems.

It doesn't have anything to do with the imaginary Dragonball vs DBZ split.

dragonball is one of the more faithful adaptations of a manga i have seen, really the only part i can remember as filler was the stop over in doctor slup world and the pre goku getting tall segment, neither of which were bad.

i cant remember off the top of my head if they anime skipped over parts that were in the manga or not.

as for my dragonball z part, it has nothing to do with the imagery, it's the fact they padded it the fuck out because they caught up with the manga, some padding is good, goku learning to drive, gohan in school was a bit extended, but most of it sucked dick, and the worst of it was when they made the fights take for fucking ever due to the padding... seriously, if you ever watch dbz have a skip button set for 5 seconds, 10 seconds and 1 minute, you will set, not that you will use anything but the 1 minute for most of the time.

dragonball, as in pre saiyan anime was good, and a relatively faithful adaptation, if you liked the manga, pick up dragonball, give dbz a shot too, it didn't get bad till namek in the amount of fight padding and after that out right filler, have a macro pad or controller mapped to 5 and 10 second jumps with 1 minute jump and you will be good to go.

It's been years now and I'm still not over just how much this series blew it's fucking potential. The only other comparable thing in Gantz when it comes to just how much the author lost the plot half way through. I've watched the entirity of Dragonball, because I'm not underage like you. I grew up with that shit. The manga is better, consistently. There's also no point in differentiating between DB and DBZ. It's an arbitrary distinction. It's not even like One Piece or Naruto where they made a big fucking deal out of the timeskip - it was actually the 2nd timeskip for DB, and it happened in a single chapter, with no break or hullabaloo.
