In the 70s they made a little series called Gundam, you may have heard of it.

In the 80s they brought us many timeless classics such as Legendary Giant Ideon, Armored Trooper Votoms, City Hunter, more Gundam, several of the best animated OVAs to ever exist, and much more.

With the 90s they created some of what westerns consider the best anime ever made, Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star, and The Big O

In the 2000s Sunrise gave birth to anime Jesus, creating the best selling anime ever. They also made some of /a/'s most beloved anime, Code Geass, Planetes, My-HiME, Gintama,

Well the funds were already set aside for the film when Satoshi Kon was alive, but Madhouse pulled it all when he died even though Maruyama (then at the time Madhouse president) told him he'd finish it. Of course I don't blame him for not being able to gather the funds since he had to start over with a new studio, but it does show you the other heads at Madhouse were the reason that film was put on hold. A direct quote from Maruyama: "[he founded MAPPA to] make new shows that we wouldn't have been able to make at Madhouse." really shows you that place is creatively bankrupt these days.

I like Madhouse purely because they're quite adept at a pretty wide variety of different things, and for the most part they do a good job of it.
The problem is that barring exceptional cases for whatever reason, they usually don't do a stand-out amazing job of it like some studios like Sunrise or Kyoani have the capacity to do, nor the flair teams like SHAFT or Trigger have.
