Who else is reading the LNs?
I've started collecting and reading the manga if that counts for anything
>he hasn't seen the horrifying covers
Basically, they tried to market the LN's with those hideous 3DPD covers to draw in the western market. After receiving a shitstorm from the fans, they went back to the original covers after a few volumes. I believe you can get the LN's now with either cover.
Apparently most people won't even give S&W a shot because of the covers, which is why the 3DPD covers exist in the first place.
I preordered Vol.1 way back in 2009.
My girlfriendjust gave me the 16th volume and I can't believe we're a few months away from the story being over, forever.
Can someone explain to me how that "crashing the market" episode made any sense?
So you have these worthless rocks that are suddenly valuable because someone convinced people they were good luck or whatever. So how does that cause the price to steadily increase for an indefinite amount of time? I get the hypothetical idea that the price would continue to increase, but in order to SELL something someone has to be willing to BUY it, and who's going to buy some rocks that supposedly give good luck if they're 100 times the original price? Also isn't it basic economics of supply and demand that with a huge supply that the price will be low? As in wouldn't it be extremely likely that some non-retard would sell his entire stock for the current price (which in the episode the idea of a "current price" doesn't exist because nobody is selling. How can you determine the price people are willing to pay if nobody is selling it anyway?) BEFORE the market crashes as literally everyone and their mother mentions the fact that the market is crashing soon.
If dubs Holo is henceforth rightfully claimed as my waifu and all you faggots have to get a different waifu immediately.
Now that that's settled, I'm gonna buy the LNs soon...
at least i have holo
It's been a while but I'm sure there were some people selling their charms, maybe off-screen though.
Also people would be willing to buy insanely expensive charms because:
- The entire town says they work so -> "GEE ANON YOU SHOULD GET SOME QUICK BEFORE THEY SELL OUT! THESE THINGS CHANGED MY LIFE!". More testimonies saying the charms work = "well not everyone can be wrong so they must work!". The customer without charms is now more willing to pay a higher price, even though their friends got them for a cheaper price. The customer without charms doesn't want to miss out. This continues until the market crashes, which is when a buyer with a large percentage of the supply dumps all of his good. This sets off a chain reaction where people now say "well shit if he's selling, he knows something and I gotta get out FAST". Rinse and repeat until they are worthless.
>As in wouldn't it be extremely likely that some non-retard would sell his entire stock for the current price
That's exactly what Lawrence and Holo did. But since there is no clear point where you have "enough" of the good to crash the market by dumping your supply of the good, you (Lawrence and Holo) run the risk of not having enough to impact the market and you sell all your shit at a loss. Lawrence and Holo did have enough charms to crash the market because Lawrence is a god.
TL;DR - Crashing the market is based on public opinion. You don't need to do a shitload of calculations, as long as you get everyone to sell all of their stock, Supply increases and Demand decreases, leading to a decrease in price.
I guess my problem with it is that it relies on the idea that people would actually be willing to pay so much for charms that have no observable effects. If it was so easy to manipulate those people than you would the same thing has happened before.
I guess I just have to suspend disbelief in this case, but oh well, I guess I should have expected that from an anime.
My post was pretty disorganized. The reason why people kept paying so much for the charms was because everyone was doing it. They claimed it worked so it was worth the high price. Even if the price shot up 1000%, it was still worth it to buy something that "guaranteed" your date with the girl you liked or a huge haul during your next fishing trip.
This shit happens in real life too, you don't need to be suspended in disbelief. Just look at snake oil from ~120 years ago. Completely worthless but the power of advertising and public opinion can make you loads of money.
Consumers are retarded.
I could lie and claim to be another anon, but I won't. I lost my chance this thread ;_;
I know... I know I've let you down... I've been a fool to myself... I thought that I could live for no one else... But now... Through all the hurt and pain.. It's time for me to respect... The ones you love mean more than anything...
So much money but two for one deals.
Daily reminder Horo is a shit and Norah a best
Probably dating someone else.
In the end she and Lawrence accepts her immortality, and she decides she will move on when Lawrence dies and Lawrence also accepts the fact and want her to be happy even if it is with another man, though this thought angers him
Not my kind of ending desu.
I was disappointed with that too. I was hoping Holo would end up giving up her immortality to grow old with him ("I choose, a mortal life" type bullshit) or maybe even Lawrence finds some way to live with her forever.
DO NOT WATCH THIS ANIME
I was expecting cute romance but Holo ends up cucking Lawrence with a pack of alpha wolves and the heartbreak that Lawrence experiences is horrible.
This show is full blown NTR with Holo losing all her dignity and becoming a slut while Lawrence suffers.
>being this delusional
Holo is cute and that is all that matters.
Binge reading them right now. Midway through Vol 9, the next 5 books arrive on tuesday.
I don`t want the ride to end. Ever. Hold me /a/
Theres a free one the door is over there.
I just finished the 16th myself here last week and it was great. Some odd grammar issues keep popping up in some of the lines though but its nothing to get too fussy over.
I really like how the characters actually do progress and change through the series though. There are quite a few semi lewd scenes between Holo and Lawrence towards the end. When she flat out leans into him and whispers that he shouldnt be thinking about a name for a shop but names for pups instead really got me.
Some hot opinions,
Ignoring the bonus volumes 7, 11, and 13. Volumes, 6, 7, 8, and 12 were all a bit disappointing, 14 was alright if only for the ending. 15 & 16 are really the only ones that got close to the original feel of the first 5.
The whole wolf bones arc just stank of the author trying to pad out the series, but I liked volume 10 anyway.
Also the mega cock-block in volume 16 annoyed me a bit, but volume 17 made up for it
A hundreds years old demigod who labels herself as "wise" that acts like a retarded tsundere directly causing avoidable trouble for her too-kind companion (unless she's scheming that, in that case she's an opportunist whore).
The author justified her smarts once by the apple-fur trick and then relies on it for the rest of the show where, rather than solving issues with her wisdom, she's being uselful only with supernatural powers like transforming into a giant wolf and hearing people's speech from afar.
>she's the shittiest character ever
>her backstory and personality/actions do not match
>you only like the show because your furry cute waifu is in it
Nothing you said is true in the slightest.
Oh fuck, Lawrence is screwed.
What aspect? There are some battles and "tense" moments, the medieval scenario (I only refer to the landscapes and places) is cool but underused as they adapt too few "plots" for it to be a relevant aspect and so it basically fails at adventure/exploration.
The only reason left to consider it comfy are the characters: the support cast rotates and that's cool yet bad because they're more interesting characters than the bland mc and her irritating waifu (unless you're a furry which self inserts which was my point to begin with).
If they travel with kids they're screwed because they would fail to hide their ears and tail and end up killed.
Lawrence should have kicked out the leecher from her cart anyway.
Leecher, yeah. Lawrence berates her over that a few times through the series, half joking half serious. Obviously he's doing everything for her simply because he wants to. Initially it's mostly because it's along the way on his trading route and he expects her to pull her weight, but he gives up on that idea later. As the series goes on he starts doing things for her purely because he loves her. Imagine it in terms that Lawrence is taking care of her because she pays him in happiness.
Hindrance not so much. I don't want to go over all the instances where she helps, but Lawrence enjoys her being around otherwise he wouldn't go through any of that shit.
This. Sigh, I would have dropped the series after the first season if someone had told me that she wouldn't appear anymore.
That was in volume 10 when Lawrence gets back drunk from chatting up the merchants in the tavern to try and learn more about the wolf bones. He gets back to their room and passes out, when he wakes up Holo asks him what he learned, being patient enough to wait for him to wake up, and he tells her he didn't really learn anything useful. Lawrence apologizes for being merely "a simple traveling merchant" and that is the extent of his abilities and that she could just break into the church and steal them instantly. Him saying that upsets her because it implies he's useless, they argue a bit and Lawrence leans into her chest and says something along the lines "please bear with it a bit longer" in that image. Meaning he's trying his best and he'll do anything he can do.
That's as far as my memory serves
It goes exactly like that: if you like Horo then you watch the rest of the show for her, otherwise you would find it extremely irritating as she's ungrateful and selfish.
About the hindrance part: I've only seen the anime and she's most definetly more trouble than what's worth in there.
Watch the OVA if you didn't as she appears in a couple scenes; I don't know how much was Norah's presence and the series being "fresher" but second season was many times worse than the first which wasn't that good anyway.
She's not really ungrateful, she just tends to never reveal her true feelings and is always trying to keep up appearances as a "wisewolf" but that issue is only addressed near the end of the series so I can understand where you got the idea from. That's why despite being in love since chapter 2 it took nearly a year for them to actually admit it
they have a bunch of kids together so they will live on
I would say she primarily gives back emotionally and by being a companion he can rely on if things go to hell.
A few times when Lawrence is really nervous he just looks at Holo to calm himself down
I always wondered if Lawrence were a lot more manly and virile if he could have gotten in Holo's pants a lot sooner.
She seems loyal enough to not fuck anyone on the side until she's done with them, but she makes a few snide remarks like "If you were a proper male I would have kissed you right now" and something about how he's strange because when she's emotional and vulnerable he doesn't make any (sexual) advances on her
You're imagining things. Nothing lewd is going on here.
No. Holo is as pure as the driven snow.
Yes. She is no god after all. She can die in her wolf form aswell.
Seems logical but it is stated on various occasions that her tail is fluffy to lay on.
During the first arc they split the wheat, and she said, she'll live as long as Lawrence has some of it.
But maybe she was lying.
What the fuck was Cole's purpose? I read all the LNs and I can't think of a single time when he was useful. The only purpose I can think of is the cockblock Lawrence. They should have just left him behind in volume 6
If I ever won the lottery or some shit, first thing I'd do is try to fund another season.
He's not as bad as everybody makes him out to be, and it's not like he's fully cockblocking Lawrence. Lawrence does that to himself most of the time as it is. But Cole is pretty much useless, can't disagree with you on that.
F L A T
>tfw no wolf gf with abandonment issues
end me now
>not carrying Holo with you everywhere you go
Does the image change depending on how warm/cold it is?
>Not wanting your waifu to be truly happy even after your death
Maybe an immortal waifu isn't for you, friend.
Yeah, I'd honestly recommend reading from the start even though the anime covered volumes 1, 2, 3, and 5. Also be prepared for the fact that after volume 6 things go a bit off in the weeds and don't really pick back up on the main plot until volume 14 and volumes 7, 11, and 13 are bonus stories that don't affect the plot
You can read them all here if you want
Last 4 are fan translations because the offical Yen Press ones aren't out yet (I think)
>Also be prepared for the fact that after volume 6 things go a bit off in the weeds
Understatement of the century.
The LNs become complete horseshit once that cockblock Col is introduced.
Come on it isn't THAT bad. Whenever Lawrence and Holo need to get lewd he's just conveniently out of the room. The one time that he legit cockblocks him was because Holo sensed him coming and baited Lawrence into it
That being said I do think he just shouldn't of existed in the first place
Normally it's not there, I accidentally pressed it while taking the screenshot
What are some other good medieval-esque shows? Hate to /r/ but the only reason why I keep re-watching S&W, despite the fact that I like the show, is that it's the only medieval show I know of that's decent. I get in a mood for medieval shit every once in awhile and it would be nice to watch something new for a change.
Maoyuu Maou Yuusha
Even has the same voice actors.
Glad I don't have those covers you have.
Reminder that Holo and Lawrence fuck every night
While Cole is certainly a cockblock, I actually thought is okay regarding group dynamics.
That one time when he becomes full moralfag with this bitchy silversmith was aggravating, however.
All memeing aside, I agree. He let Holo being really loving and compassionate without forcing her and Lawrence's relationship down a path that didn't make any sense. Also he's literally not even in half of the novels after he's introduced.
How's the manga doing? Last I heard they were up to Lenos and they're skipping a lot of chapters, but finding them online proves difficult
Lawrence tries to be diplomatic with her, and she says "Fuck you".
Lawrence tries to find a less time consuming way to get the map, where you had to potentially help her for the entire season and she says "Fuck you"
Lawrence tries to save her life, she says "Fuck you"
Lawrence tries not to get involved with this an incredibly delicate and dangerous situation for once in a while and she says "Fuck you"
Lawrence and Holo salvage the un-salvagable situation and she don't even flat out say "Thank you"
Cole was sympathizing with this bitch like a good church boy.
Fuck that volume.
sadly I've only read up to the 4'th volume. But the art and story a great so far. follows the anime perfectly. don't know about the LN. Sorry have to take this pic from my collection, that's why it took me longer
There's been a few. Some successful, some not.
Did they explain why? It seems like an easy cash grab in my eyes. Unless I've been operating in an echo chamber, s&w has a pretty large fanbase and the BDs would certainly do well
>my face when Horo took the dick from all those wolves in the forest
No idea, it was some anime blog site interview or something and when asked about S3 he's just like "Eh I guess that would be cool but lol nope"
And to think they dug FMP out of the abyss to revive while I'm never hearing another De Geso~ ever again.
Shit like this reminds me that I'm not in the Good End.
I'm still hoping for assisted or unassisted biological immortality or successful cryogenic technology in my lifetime. Living as long as possible in hopes of seeing that achieved is the only reason I maintain my health as rigorously as I do.
That said, I share the view of James Joyce: the fact that I can accept my mortality and be content to share happiness with her while I live, without any great concern for what comes after save that she remember our time together fondly, is itself evidence of the strength of my love.
Ika Musume was popular enough at this late time to get a tie-in with Nintendo, so it has more chance for new stuff than most "new season never" shows. S&W too actually, though not to that extent since the source material is over. But hey, if FMP can do it we can always hope.
Is the manga following the LNs closely?
Vote for Korbo and your other favorite players to represent /a/ in the Winter Cup:
That's from a bygone era when publishers thought LN's were the Japanese equivalent of Teen Drama, so they put disgusting 3D covers on them so the books wouldn't look out of place next to twilight or whatever shit publishers put out to capture the wanna-be-valley-girls-but-aren't-popular-enough-because-reading-lol slut market.
Yen Press quickly realized they were wrong when people emailing them to say they were boycotting because of the cover more than tripled actual sales.
*Source: Either my shit memory or my ass, I dunno.
They're pretty shitty compositions, the costume is garbage, and the girl really isn't very attractive, nor does she look much like Holo. It was a pretty terrible decision to be honest.
How is the Yen Press translation actually? I haven't read past what Baka-Tsuki did and they quit after it was licensed.
Yen Press's translations are OK. I wish the translator took MORE liberty with the text.
Hasekura really isn't that good at writing... at least in certain places (i.e. physical descriptions).
Yeah, from what I remember the first volume had a kind of fanfictiony feel to it, as if they were trying to translate something that wasn't terribly well put-together in the first place. I guess I might as well read them though. Considering how emotionally invested I am in the series it's a wonder I haven't yet.
Yeah. I mean, they're not terrible. It's just, you expect a little more from an author with 17 books under his belt.
For example, instead of
>Holo had sad eyes.
>Holo was forever withdrawn, her dark eyes turned inward, brooding, as if witnessing a sea of suffering she alone could see.
but whatever. LNs are meant for younger kids anyways.
