So, am I the only one that noticed the sudden drop in quality since the dragon fight chapter of this manga? And what the actual fuck was that cringeworthy plotskip after finding the medicine in the ruins? It was fucking godawfull, fuck, I love this manga, enjoy the adaptation, but I wonder what the actual fuck went wrong with the manga there.

Surely the JSDF is beeg and stronk enough, fighting a medieval level opponent with fucking JDAMs, surely that's enough?

That's more of the manga art choices, in the LN he's clearly a bitch fuckboi. He's fairly skinny in the anime too, but then Kuribayashi is even tinnier and looks like a teenager, so it's kind of a wash.
>He did not hit her back ONCE. Even Mike Tyson got knocked a little by weaker opponents
a) he's come to the sudden and terrifying realisation of what guns can do and that Itami will shoot his fucking face off with the one he had pointed at him if he tries anything and b) Mike Tyson and his opponents were, you know, professional boxers who had been smashed in the face before as part of their job. This guy probably hadn't been so much as scratched before in his life, she could easily have broken his nose and concussed him in the first punch alone. She probably did, going by the anime.

She's a scrawny woman. He can literally stick his arm out, grab her neck and hold her away.

The manga should have
A) had some oni or something take her place
Or B) make it a battle of wits
Or C) just shoot him in the leg
This is just cringeworthy. Could you at least make this woman look AND act like rhanda rousey? I'd be alright with that...

Regardless, you're being picky and taking it too seriously. Kuribayashi could've been a hulking oni or they could've had Tomita do the beatdown, but that would defeat the point, which is that an arrogant fuck getting his shit pushed in by a cute girl with massive tits is hot.
Personally I'd like it if Kuribayashi was a bit bigger and more muscular, but that's not to everyone's taste. You've got to consider your target audience here.

Except you totally can. The series is consistently gritty drama taking place right next to goofy comedy, you have a princesses and nobles being complete idiots and acting like schoolgirls as the foreground to serious politics. Between Itami and main four girls, the series is a borderline harem anime. Why you were expecting perfectly gritty realism from it is beyond me, because that's clearly not what it's about.

>>136173974
Well to answer some of your points, Itami specifically said NOT to kill him. Shooting him even in the leg could easily lead to killing him, it's not like they could rush him to hospital in pseudo-Rome.
Battle of wits is out, because Zorzal is evidently and idiot and so is Kuribayashi.
Oni is pointless, it's supposed to be real world Japan vs fantasy Rome, bringing in fantasy Japan would defeat the point.
>>
We've been arguing about these same things with the manga guys. There is no right answer guys. Just let it go. You should be asking why did Persia scratch Itami.
>>
>>136174224
>Except you totally can. The series is consistently gritty drama taking place right next to goofy comedy, you have a princesses and nobles being complete idiots and acting like schoolgirls as the foreground to serious politics
And it doesn't work at all. It's constantly deviantart-fanfiction tier *unsheathes katana* bullshit that clashes blatantly with the fun and titties part.

>Shooting him even in the leg could easily lead to killing him
Shoot him in the meaty part of his thigh. Or just punch him once. Or better, not at all. This is seriously fucking over your abilities to get along with the inhabitants of this new world. Even a badly equipped group of people will organize and fight back properly if provoked enough- america and Russia learned this the hard way. And boy, there's now a lot of reasons to sympathize with this country aren't there? Can you imagine the reaction the world would have if they saw half of the shit these guys do?
>honorable JDSF flattens the equivlant of the Roman coliseum
>honorable JSDF kills 1000+ soldiers with napalm strike, soldiers armed only with swords
>JSDF allows soldiers to brutally attack royalty of new land
>JSDF bombs town, casualties high; mostly women and children
Sooner or later you have to realize these people have all kinds of reason to hate you, and your own country isn't going to support it after a while, even if they did shoot first.

>Battle of wits is out, because Zorzal is evidently and idiot and so is Kuribayashi
>JSDF diplomacy given to ground soldier with criminal record who failed her written exams twice instead of high brass official; soldier later attacked the prince until he was so wounded he needed to be hospitalized

This isn't "gritty realism" it's just... Terrible
>>
>>136173830

You also ignored the whole 'he'll get shot if he tries anything and has probably never had to fight ever in his life and doesn't know how to take a hit'
Also:
>Just lost all of his palace friends in the blink of an eye
>To some kind of demented foreigner with weapons he's never seen before
>Realising you too could be killed the same way in a second if you make a false move
>The same demented foreigner gets sicced on you
>They can't hurt you! You're the crown prince! Surely they can't- oh fuck
This is probably what went through Zorzal's mind. It probably never even occured to him to try and defend himself. It didn't even occur to him to defend himself from Itami when he first hit him.
>>
>>136173473
Give any logical explanation to how he would be able to resist in that situation in the first place, with a fking gun pointing at him? Even if he is stronger he is still in a shitty situation

>Shoot him in the meaty part of his thigh

>Or better, not at all. This is seriously fucking over your abilities to get along with the inhabitants of this new world
Not really going to disagree with you on this one, but it's kind of beside the point I was talking about.
>JSDF bombs town, casualties high; mostly women and children
This is actually straight up wrong, it specifically states that they went out of their way to make sure there'd be no civilian casualties.

Which they would obviously never do in a real situation. Also, by the way, I don't know if you've ever seen what a building like that getting knocked over looks like, but I have, and I assure you in any realistic situation the concrete flying away from that explosion had more than enough power behind it to kill people. And that's a lot of stuff flying around, so that's a lot of dead and injured people. Would you like to see a webm file of a Syrian soldier getting his fucking head taken off his shoulders by a flyig brick that came from a building 300 yards away from him? Because I can.
To be concise, I've been arguing this entire time that quote, "you can either have dead or alive or apocalypse now, you can't mix them" and I think I've been doing that pretty well. The numerous absurdities contained within this story are so blatant and unacceptable to any military operation I could literally write an essay about how utterly fucked this whole thing is. And I think you know that too.

I suppose I can see the appeal of all this despite the cringe. I am here after all too. i like titties and explosions as much as the next guy. My favorite rape slave is the dragon girl, I'd "pass" through her "gateway" if you know what I mean. In fact I generally hate "serious" war movies- Dr strangelove is my favorite of all time, saving Private Ryan the least. And there is a way to merge "gritty realism and humor" and have it work. I used Apocalypse now as my "realistic" movie and I can say that I was laughing my ass off throughout the first half of the movie. It just doesn't work here because apocalypse now has characters that while exaggerated (colonel Kilgore being roughly comparable to Mrs fists) are still believeable.

I won't critisize your ability to tolerate more bullshit than me, but I hope you can at least understand why I cringe.

As was typical for America, the brass massively misunderstood the situation.
They thought the F4 was going to usher in a period of air combat where guns were irrelevant and missiles made all the kills.

As a testament to how wrong they were, the abysmal F4 combat record before the inclusion of guns and the fact that guns are still relevant to this day.

>SDF soldiers are trained in the military self-defence art of toshu kakuto (徒手格闘), developed in 1952 by Major Chiba Sansu from a synthesis of jujutsu, karate, aikijujutsu, boxing and wrestling. The techniques of toshu kakuto are simplified and direct, to allow for their application whilst in combat dress and carrying field kit. There is an emphasis on the rapid transmission of maximum force in strikes, and for this reason toshu kakuto eschews the fully rotated punches and instep kicks of most karate forms in favour of vertical thrust punches and straight heel kicks

>why did they invade?
This just proves your ignorance.

Ancient Empires HAVE to invade people. They have a need of a large army to keep the subjugated population contained, but it is not possible to keep the army that size, paid and fed through taxes alone. Thus that army needs to be sent on campaigns to gain new loot to pay the soldiers as well as keeping the troops busy.

The second the invasions end, the troops would start to get restless. And as soon as you suggest they should have a pay cut or disband, the troops revolt and become rebel armies.

Nah, plenty of people complain about it.

http://randomc.net/2015/09/19/gate-kieitai-kanochi-nite-kaku-tatakaeri-another-world-another-war/

>I’m sure there are bound to be groans when you mention the right wing agenda that exists in GATE. You may say: ” just let it go” or “let me enjoy it without bringing politics into it”, but when the creator so obviously puts across his ideologies and brings real life politics into the equation, what can you expect? You simply can’t ignore the author’s views, and you shouldn’t. Denying the link between the two is lying to yourself; I wish I could be more ignorant to it all, but I can’t.

>That being said, it’s probably a good thing that I’m the one writing this post and not some other bloggers, because although I’d class my political views are far-left and very different from what’s put across here, I wasn’t nearly as aggravated as I thought I would have been. I went into GATE prepared to be furious, but that never really happened. The closest to it was the general tone of the Itami’s questioning and Rory biting back – it felt very contrived and gave a taste of what could come. Thankfully, there weren’t many scenes like that, though I imagine if there were more, I might have felt exhausted with them. But as a whole I was never overtly offended with what I saw.

There was literally a scene where a US special force commander said something along the lines of "How are they so much better than us...". Notice how it's Japan exclusively controlling the GATE and launching a military campaign? That this is somehow a "good" thing? That every other Earth country portrayed (thus far) has been antagonistic towards Japan and the JSDF? There is one reason for Japan to exclusively control the Gate and that is imperialism. The show is literally promoting Japanese imperialism.

I love GATE, but it definitely has a strong propaganda/patriotic tilt.
>>
Does anyone know how the novel ends? I can't find spoilers anywhere.

>What mate? The author should've removed fantasy altogether than
He can't. Since he must keep it to bait otakus. You know, animal girls, elves, lolibaba and stuffs. Beside, the SDF needs to take down a DRAGON, one of strongest beings in Western folktales to show off their superiority.
>>
>>136190654
Funny thing is if it was a real world situation they would be conquered simultaneously by everybody in a matter of hours and then the big players would have a war for the gate. The author is pretty delusional thinking anybody would sit around as they explored inside.
>>
>>136190716
>Dragons, one of strongest beings in Western folktales
To be fair Anon in western folktales the strongest of beings in folktales Europe/America's (Before, Christianity showed up to wipe the floor with them) are deities/powerful spirits. Dragons are killed by a simple pleb or warrior with a sword or a lance in folktales semi-easy as pie.

It also depends on what Dragon you are telling with since in western folktale there is variations of them like the one in Nemean, to the one slayed by that Christian Saint.

What is Fafnir? What is Jormungandr?
>>
>>136190305
That depends heavily on what time period. Middle earth without any major war of the other realms going on would be easy. There'd be no threat other then the possibility of things not staying dead. If you can't actually harm the nazgul(which you can with mithril dunno about bullets) or saruon you could eaisly rape the entire thing. Now if you include the other realms, no. That's like saying the JSDF can't take the gate world if the gods actually don't want them there. They likely couldn't deal with a serious apostle.
>>136190544
That's mostly because the gods restrict learning in gate world. Once leilei actually learned some Science she easily becomes a force on her own. It comes heavily down to not knowing how things work with magic. once you do you can do many things.
>>
>>136191072
Last time I checked Fafnir was a dwarf that cursed and turned into a giant ass serpent. Jormungandr was a world eating dragon though.

Well no. The point was that it shows magic is limited in gate world only because the gods actually restrict education. While leiei is a genius in being able to process all of that given a decade or so magic could very easily rival the JDSF if it was spread. The gods probably want to keep their sandbox from ever becoming a possible threat to themselves with good reason.

Anon the way that fight played out he was being dumb gave her a telegraphed punch which she dodged and gave a straight uppercut to the jin. I don't care who you are that shuts you down for a couple of secs. She then continues to beat him while he can't fight back, much more brutally in the manga. For a spoiled brat who's likely never felt pain before to know be feeling a lot of it all of a sudden would likely cower too.
TLDR the way the anime did it is plausible. first hit incapacitated him because he gave her a free shot. Giving free shots to people no matter how eaisly you think you win can be fucking horrible. Ball shots, eye shots, etc.

I didn't like the plotskip but I still enjoyed the minotaur arc. It felt like a sidequest and a different change of pace. The adventure itself and fight with the minotaur was fine but I think my problem with it was that for a potential zombie apocalypse situation, the problem of the zombie plague wasn't played up more and felt inconsequential. The scenario and mood didn't feel threatening at all. Even in stuff like HSOTD, the threat of the zombies and being overrun was present. Sure, it's contained in one area but they were in the center of it yet it didn't feel like there was a desperate struggle for survival. They saved Rory, accidentally found the cause and burned it. That was it.

The diamond she's showing around in that bag would easily be 300-400c For retrospect a damond that sold recently at 100c was 22.1m USD. Yao's rock would need to be cleaned up but worst case your looking at 300c. The price goes up exponentially on size at that point. I'd say easily hundreds of millions. Of course all of this is a moot point in the next 2-3 yeas when jewelery companies start to die off because we can make synthetic diamonds now that are exactly the same. Up for 30k right now.

The current diamond market is in it's deaththrows. We can currently reproduce a diamond of any quality of any purity to mach their "Brands" they try to sell. The only reason current diamond market people still exist is they have a campaign that "earthmined diamonds are better" or "Do you want something made in a lab, or something that came from mother earth?" The diamonds are so perfect, Kay jewelers actually had to invent a device which cost them millions to be able to tell the difference. They are the same in every single aspect of mined diamonds or can be made to. Generally just 100% pure faultless diamonds are produced in labs. You can make whatever. The tech is still very new too. The guy who invented it has no plan to usurp the diamond trade. He wants to use it for science. You know, Diamond car windshields and frames, etc.

Don't make me laugh.

Until you can reverse half a century's worth of marketing designed to make women want their future husband to spend months of paychecks on a diamond ring, jewelry will always be always be valuable. Synthetics already occupy an industrial role.
>>
>>136195605
I don't mean to imply the jewelery market is in trouble at all. It's flourishing more now then ever. I said the diamond market. If you watch those videos it comes down to basically would you buy this 100carat diamond for 22million, or this exact same 100 carat diamond with nothing different for at minimum 40% less. likely more. The only difference is one came out of the ground, one was made in a lab. Times here in the US people are wanting to save money. If you give them a real product that is just as, if not better than the alternative for cheaper chances are they'd flock to it. My friend recently got engaged and ended up getting a 4 carat ring for 4300. cheapest 4carat mined diamond he saw with just the diamond was 7k. middle income housing will always go for the cheaper. The middle to upper class will always go for the cheaper alternative. big boys in this diamond war hate what's going on. and why I mean they're in deaththrows. I see commercials all the time from Kay, or from Debeers ripping on man made diamonds saying theirs are so much better, etc. It's just a PR war now really. and the artificial side isn't even fighting.
>>
>>136195605
Pretty sure if you were to ask your wife "Hey honey. can get you a 6carat ring with my life savings, or I can get you a 11-12c ring with my life savings. Which do you think most bitches would go for? The question "the real one" is thie both real. so.
>>
>>136196137
You're implying that women want artificial diamonds, or that they'd prefer a bigger synthetic diamond over a mined one. The whole demand for diamonds in the first place isn't rational, so why are you trying to use logic here?

DeBeers' marketing artificially created a market for diamonds in the first place. You don't think they can continue?

>it never was supposed to be a Zombie-story
>Undeads aren't that threatening
Not that guy but if they just added zombification mainly so they can have an excuse to take a side trip for a cure to one of them who got infected, then that seems a whole lot worse. It was a setting that could have provided a different mood for this quest so saying "it wasn't intended to be that way" and "they weren't supposed to be threatening" leaves an even more bitter taste.

The interactions of the modern world with the empire had a certain mood to it. The fight against the dragon had a certain mood to it as well. This recent trip seemed to be designed as a dungeon diving adventure filled with undead and a big bad boss fight in the end but it wasn't able to accomplish all that.

The interactions of the cast and the boss fight itself were nice but the dungeon diving part was boring in its portrayal and the intentional (as you say) non-threatening enemies didn't help. Then the explanation and reward (which was the cure) got glossed over by fast forwarding through it. I guess like the ending, the dungeon diving part just got glossed over so they can focus on the admittedly fun boss fight. I still liked it for the good parts though.
>>

Not an acceptable argument if those guys did nothing that offended Japanese law, the government still has the duty to rescue them. If they really don't want to do that, they must make travelling to Syria a crime in the law, the way Tony Abbott did. But before that, they can't ignore their duty.

Based on what? Your own standard? A modern government works based on it's constitution. If they can't give a legal reason to abandon their citizen according to the law, they still have to do their job.

A government does NOT have the requirement of needing to rescue every citizen anywhere on the planet. It isn't a law. The only reason it is done most of the time is due to political and PR reasons. However, in Japan's case there is no political pressure to rescue them because Japan does not have a culture of paying ransom. If you are captured by the enemy, you are assumed to be dead. This is historical because ancient Japan didn't have a ransom economy like Medieval Europe.

But that's the whole of my argument so fare. Japanese give no care about their hostages, while other countries do due to their moral duty. The populace want their fellow citizens back thus the government has to fulfill that wish. But that doesn't the case for Japanese. It show you the contradiction with how they reacted in the show.

Then you missed the point. In this case it isn't the hostage that is the problem, but HONOUR. The hostage was taken on Japanese Soil, and thus it is a dishonour for the JSDF that it has happened and a wrong that had to make right.

When a guest is harmed in your home, you would feel responsible and that you failed your responsibility to protect your guest in your domain. The same applies here. The JSDF does not have a duty to rescue anyone anywhere, but JSDF does have a duty of protecting citizens IN Japan. And in this case it was a dishonour that they missed one. And thus it had to be remedied. Honour is complicated.

Ok, I see, so complicated. Maybe samurais really think the Jews fear them too.

First of all, you need to stop confusing moral obligation with legal duty. Governments may arguably have a moral obligation to protect their citizens overseas, but the degree to which that's true is a matter of opinion.

On the other hand, governments to not necessarily have any legal obligation to protect their citizens. I don't know anything about European law, but in the US the Supreme Court has consistently ruled that the government has no obligation to protect individual citizens. The court generally holds that the Constitution restricts what the government may do, but does not require it to take action (which, for example, is how Obama can get away with instructing the DOJ not to prosecute certain illegal immigrants despite the fact that they're obviously in violation of the law). The statutes relied upon by people arguing for a legal duty are also pretty clearly inapplicable to overseas incidents. I'm not aware of anything in I don't know much about Japanese law, but I'm not aware of anything in their constitution that would require the government to protect its citizens overseas either.

Finally, Japan's attitude towards hostages is based on the belief that if you choose to reject society by doing something abnormal, like going to Iraq to try to become a mercenary, then society no longer owes you protection. On the other hand, if someone is abducted through no fault of their own, the attitude is very different. That's why the North Korean abduction of Japanese citizens is still a major diplomatic issue despite it having happened nearly 40 years ago.

Natural diamonds contain impurities, that's why they have colors. That can be reproduced but not easily and differentiating man-made and natural diamonds would still be possible.
As to trash grade diamonds, I meant it quite literally. Diamond prices are controlled rather than market driven, if someone smashes the cartel, the diamonds currently worth less than 50k would be like 5 dollar.
Some big diamonds, however, have histories behind them and are very rare, so they would retain some value whatever happens.
>>
>>136196742
If anything, cash has less real value than diamonds. Without a government and a functioning economy to back it, fiat currency is literally worth the paper it's printed on. At least there's a market for diamonds based on their intrinsic qualities, even if their value is inflated.

Pretty shit that they gave them sack clothes and less blood in the anime.

You are almost right. There is one thing, however, a matter of jurisdiction and territory.

If a French citizen was abducted in Japan, JP police force attends the matter and vice versa.
Neither the French police force nor Japanese police force can act in foreign territories due to the limitations of their governments' jurisdiction.
What is legal in one nation can be illegal in another and your legal responsibilities are to respect the local laws over the ones at your home and the same is applied to your legal rights.
Now, the captured Japanese citizens entered the Syrian territory without the consent or the protection of the Syrian government which may or may not exist. I do not know what rights they had really. None because there was no sovereign entity existed in the region? Same as what they had in Japan, because the lack of the legitimate government made the territory Japanese by default?
I somehow feel former is the case.
On the other hand, kidnapping citizens from or within the nation's territory is an act of defiance against the nation's jurisdiction and failing to prevent or punish that has rather serious repercussions.

It's funny you say that because the USAF kill ratio barely improved after the inclusion of a gun where as the Navy never fully deployed F-4s with gun pods but had spectacular improvements after they actually trained their pilots how to use their missiles. But retards going to keep spouting retarded shit.

>Does Imperial Capital have a name or is it just called Imperial Capital?
It's the only Capital, so why should it be called anything else? Much like China calls itself "Center of the Nation". And Beijing is literally "The Northern City".

No that note, Nanjing is "Southern City" and Tokyo is "Eastern City".
As a kid I always wondered what happened to the West side, but in retrospect, the West side is undeveloped because of a lack of rivers.

I hope you're not talking about other precious gemstones like rubies and emeralds here. Because those aren't diamonds.
