So now that all the first episodes are out, what looks most likely to be AotS? Shouwa Rakugo looks like the most sophisticated and "patrician" offering this season, and it's certainly good, but I think lesbian loli robots might better serve what I consider the purpose of an anime, which is to make me feel happy for twenty minutes per week.
Aokana will be AOTS.
Showa, Dimension W, and Boku dake ga inai appear to be the frontrunners for aots.
I've liked them all so far. Only a week in though and I tend to like almost every first episode that I watch.
Phantom World is AOTS so far
agreed, but it might be because the last few seasons have been so lacking. I already plan on keeping up with
and thats as not even finished watching every episode 1 yet.
In terms of pure fun, Pandora and Konosuba are going to be great. I haven't watched the leak of the latter, but it's probably going to get the shit end of the budget stick since DEEN is doing so much else this season. That aside, the source is great and the staff is good too, so it'll probably be really good other than the QUALITY animation and somewhat lacking character designs.
Dimension W should be good for an action show. Grimgar also had a pretty nice first episode. We've also got URW2 contniuing from last season and switching over into wartime second act, which leaves me a little sad, but it should still be good.
I'm still waiting for subs.
Not only that but people seem to forget this is an anime adaptation. I don't even know if it is 13 or 20+ episodes.
Mistery/Drama/Psychological shows like that turn into a cluster fuck by the end because of not enough time to develop.
For now I'm backlogging Dake Machi and waiting for the season end.
I was also turned off by the premise, but after watching I definitely have a much better impression of it. It could turn out to be shit in the end of course, but its first episode was one of the better ones so far.
Pretty much this.
I'll also be keeping up with GATE, Koyomimonogatari and Osomatsu-san because I like those series, and the obligatory KyoAni work just to flesh out my schedule. But the aforementioned shows look to be the best of this season, with the first episode as a representative
Haruchika is AOTS.
Boku dake has my attention for the time travel and how things will go on
Rakugo caught my attention, its kinda somehow new and was interesting, might dropped it hard if it goes full homolust
Konosuba was fun, mc and heroine were bros and was likable enough, still the QUALITY was unsettling
and for the most parts the short episodes were quite good
for the others not that much.
Does Koukaku no Pandora have a girl as good as Aqua?
Among the shows I'm watching Dimension W looks the most promising.
Dimension W looks like the sort of classic that in a few years is way over-hyped and people react and say it wasn't really that good, but really it was pretty good.
Shouwa Rakugo looks like the sort of show that will be good but elitists will hype up way better than it is for no reason.
Koukaku no Pandora will be the kind of show that people enjoy and occasionally look back on fondly, but nobody makes a big deal about afterward.
Other shows this season aren't likely to be memorable, although Boku Dake has the potential to be picked up by 2deep4u plebs depending on where it goes.
What did people like about the first episode?
Now I like the setting and everything. But the first episode did pretty much nothing beyond establishing the basics of the premise over the period of twenty minutes.
The episode ends where it starts. And it never established anything beyond the most basic of introductions. I can tell you that you can jump straight to episode two without even watching episode one and you won't miss out.
>Pleasant surprise tier
Luck and logic
>Well animated but trash plot tier
Prince of Stride
>Watching for the laughs tier
>On the fence tier
Ao no Kanata
All in all not a bad season.
Depends on what you are expecting.
To me it felt like it's trying to establish itself as a character-driven show.
If it's going to be more of a plot-driven show then you're right though.
>year of the aotd
>irrelevant pile of crap
>Best of the season with a nice story:
>For historical drama (even though it's a little pushy):
>For fun and diabetes:
>For cutest girl of the season:
Ooya wa Shishunki
>Because it's actually quite satirical, funny and short:
>Because I've seen it all so might as well watch it even it's boring:
Phantom, HaruChika, Koukaku no Pandora
>I want to try but I'm not convinced at all from the get-go:
>I don't want to watch because I WANT TO READ THE GODDAMN VN THAT REFUSES TO WORK ON MY COMPUTER
Ao no Kanata
>waiting for subs
>I want to watch just to have one last laugh before burying the whole thing
>anything other than Madoka or Shirobako
Do you have something against the Kyuuto Gaaru?
Why are the short shows so much better than the full length ones?
It pains my butt.
Hopefully the card game is localized as well. So that I can gain double the enjoyment out of the show.
Definitely. It reminds me of YnS, but less polished and lewder.
>Can't wait for more
>Hoping it will improve
>Dropped after one episode
Prince of Stride
Looking like a very strong season so far. I still plan on watching Grimgar just haven't felt in the mood. Even at this rate, 7 solid shows will make for a very enjoyable anime season. Glad all the pleasant surprises helped mitigate the initial disappointment of Haruchika.
Sekkou Boys is fucking brilliant. Rakugo has potential to be an instant classic. Bubuki and Pandora make me feel like a kid again. This is a good anime season, so far it might be the best season since Spring 2014.
>see all this talk about a certain Bubuki Buranki
>"well, let's give it a shot"
>great world-building that doesn't rely on infodumping
>amazing visuals with good 3D
>very solid "animation"
>delicious weapon designs
>fairly nice action
Holy shit, I'm pumped. Gone all the way up my ranking beside Boku Dake.
Yeah, Bubuki is pretty damn good so far. Looks great, interesting world-building, likable characters, and a fucking anime original. See you in the threads.
Well, the first episode's threads were. But it was an equal measure of that and speculation and people praising the CG quality. Now that those people have dropped it, I think the threads are going to improve. Kind of like what happened with Sidonia.
One thing is for sure so far, it's probably one of the greatest 3D I've seen in anime. If the final rendition is like what we've seen in the trailers so far, Ajin will look like a fucking joke compared to Bubuki.
I bet the animators are having fun with it too.
Now, this is no fun: not only Luck & Logic looks like another fantasy romance with strong Symphogear vibes, but it also had the bad luck of coming after Bubuki, compared to which it pales even more dangerously. I'll give it 2 more episodes.
Picked up so far:
Boku Dake, Bubuki, Shouwa Rakugo, Dagashi Kashi, Ooya-san wa Shishunki!, Oshiete! Galko-san, Koyomimonogatari, Luck & Logic
I was expecting Winter to be weak but it's actually my strongest season in a long time.
Though I gotta admit I was too busy/lazy to pick up a lot of shows recently.
"We" call every season good too in the first week. Then the pessimist fags start finding some shows they like and the optimistic fags start dropping shows they realize are actually shit and soon nobody gives a shit anymore if the season is the best or worst ever.
What point is there being pessimistic, anon?
Just enjoy the early hype.
I dislike being disappointed and I like being positively surprised.
I don't see the problem with the character design. It's typical of modern anime for youngsters (it kinda reminds me of Code Lyoko, a French TV anime) with the costumes in the virtual world. It's flashy, but it's on par with the rebellious and punkish spirit of youngsters who have been given powerful weapons. And that way, we have clear-cut designs and no sameface syndrome.
True. Someone in another thread compared it to Jet Set Radio and I think that's a decent comparison. It just looks a little gaudy. You can have flashy and memorable character designs that are also very good. Pic related for instance.
I wonder if a lot of it was limitations of the CG animation.
Same, I thought it was perfectly stylish and non-generic.
Rakugo and Gyaruko both seem like something I'll finish. Bubuki and Boku dake whatever get a chance and Phantom World I'll probably watch for the animation if my brain can handle how shit it'll be otherwise.
Whatever is the most western pandering, of course.
It's too early to judge an entire season, but I enjoyed and I'll keep on watching these.
The ones I look forward the most
>Ojisan to Marshmallow
>Yami Shibai 3
On the fence
Rakugo is the only one only good show, but I'm going to be watching Phantom World and Grimgar all the way through for the pretty visuals and fanservice.
I'm not convinced anything else is really worth my time, I've checked out most things.
Boku dake ga Inai Machi
Musaigen no Phantom World
>Not sure yet
Hai to Gensou no Grimgar
>Hasn't Aired Yet
Showa,Erased, Grimgar, and Dimension W are the only ones I seem to enjoy. I am still debating if I should drop Luck and Logic since its not that great but, not that bad. I don't mind watching the little shorts either.
Just take a look at my screenshots above. The characters are very nicely integrated to the whole thing. Of course, it's not perfect and there are some moments where the sleek aspect comes out a little too much but otherwise, the "animation" is very solid.
