Why did they remove this (imo) really important part of the story in the Rebuilds? I mean, they could have easily thrown it in there, it didn't require any more time or anything. They seriously just removed this aspect of the scene. IMO, it added some more mystery to the Evas until it's later explained with Yui and stuff.
Because Yui is not inside Rebuild Eva01 but EoE Eva01 floating in space
Anno sees the Rebuilds not as a retelling, but something different from NGE. The decision to omit this element was very intentional - Yui and her demise into Unit 01 hasn't been covered in the films and my assumption is that it's going to be different from NGE in that department
there's no time for storytelling in movies when you could be showing cool cgi buildings raising and lowering instead and showing a hot new babe that can move fresh merchandise around instead
If you had been paying attention to the movies instead of gawking at the fanservice, you'd realize that it's not a remake or a reboot.
>Yui and her demise into Unit 01 hasn't been covered in the films
It was covered in Q, same scene where Shinji finds out about the Ayanami Series.
>It was covered in Q
>implying this isn't the pre-rebuild timeline
On a more serious note, it's apparent stuff was changed in 1.0 and 2.0 for a reason but then 3.0 happend and fucked everything up.
Dude, that's just stupid plot bullshit. If they actually wanted to change things up they would have changed how characters interacted, the actual events of the story as they pertain to the characters, or added characters that weren't completely irrelevant.
>You mean came to a climax.
No, I mean fucked up.
Climax does not mean you simply throw 2 movies worth of established characters and world-building into the trash to write your "14 years after EoE fanfiction"
>If they actually wanted to change things up they would have changed how characters interacted
>the actual events of the story as they pertain to the characters
>or added characters that weren't completely irrelevant
Everyone has a purpose
>Everyone has a purpose
Sorry, I should be more clear. They should have changed these things in a more significant manner. At the end of the day, 2.22 still traces the same general arc that the middle arc of NGE does. Shinji and the crew start coming to an understanding with one another, then everything starts falling apart due to unfortunate circumstances. Sure, the subtleties are tweaked a bit, but at the end of the day it's more or less the same.
They took this out, too, but they kept the glamour shots of Nerv and Shinji jizzing himself over the Geofront. Definitely a reduced sense of menace from the evas themselves.
So even thought things are different and have different subtext, it isn't different enough?
But it's those little differences that lead to the conclusion of 2.0 and the beginning of Q.
No, Kaworu still retains his memories of another timeline.
>But it's those little differences that lead to the conclusion of 2.0 and the beginning of Q.
Could you tell me exactly in what way? It's easy to say that the subtle differences somehow resulted in a different outcome but I couldn't tell you exactly why. The Rebuilds just don't explain themselves well enough to do so. Stuff like Eva God Mode is completely pulled out of the writers ass just for the apparent purpose of being different, and that's not the only time this happens in Rebuild.
Asuka makes an attempt to understand Shinji, this leads Shinji to reciprocate. Shinji's relationship with Rei is also growing, and when Asuka realizes this she takes Rei's place to test Unit 04 so Rei can throw the dinner party she's planning.
It's Shinji's strong connection with Rei that pushes him to do the things that awaken Unit 01.
Here's the problem: I don't really think Shinji's connection to Rei is any stronger in Rebuild than it was in NGE. If God Mode were a thing that Unit-01 has always been able to do, I would have activated at some point in NGE, either during the fight against Armisael or after the MP Eva Attack. This is what leads me to believe God Mode was just thrown in for no reason other than to change things up.
where the fuck 4.44/1.0+3.0 at????????
Everyone is reasonably pissed at and/or wary of Shinji, they're not even sure he was the real Shinji.
NGE Unit 01 isn't the same as Rebuild's Unit 01.
I'm not sure the difference is supposed to be 01.
I think the anon is referring to the fact that there is a difference between an Eva going berserk and tearing apart an Angel and it turning into the God Warrior, shooting lasers out of it's arse
Souls aren't a power source by themselves or else any two humans could do this and every Eva could do like Unit 01.
The third soul was Rei's/Lilith's, and Unit 01 is the only Eva that's a clone of Lilith.
As soon as Rei starts fusing with Unit 01 this happens.
Rei added a lot of kick, but she was still in Zeruel and not doing much for her when Unit 01 started shooting eye lasers, doing Gamera 3 energy punches, and starting the Anti-AT hurricane.
Evangelion 3.0+1.0 Will be the part of 3.0 that was missing and was neede to understand whay the fuck is going with the timeloop/world reset, plus a new iteration of 1.0 were Shinji and everyone else will get shit done right.
At the same time, though, half of Lilith is missing again. Not that it has to be for 01 or that Lilith couldn't also be changed for Rebuild or that Rei has been revealed as Lilith-derived yet or anything.
I love how Asuka gets pissed at Shinji after she sees him after all that time, it's too fucking cute I really want her to win the Shinjibowl
>b-but the central theme of evangelion is miscommunication!
It seems you didn't get the memo that Evangelion is now gay propaganda.
You got cucked fireposter, just accept it.
>one post is meme
>HAHA THEIR TRYING TO TRICK ME
Maybe not? For having four Adams and Second Impact being even worse, Rebuild's teen Misato looks uninjured and fully conscious entering the pod and her dad wasn't melting off of his bones.
Making Evangelion really, really fucking gay.
Because the huge plot twist for Rebuild is no longer about unit 01 being Shinji's mother.
Notice how in NGE, after unit 01 covers her hand over Shinji in an effort to protect him, Gendo smiles at this?
It's the first huge indicator we get about the Yui=unit 01 plot twist in the anime series.
Now, let's look at what happens in Rebuild 1.0.:
>Earthquake doesn't cause lights above to fall down in Shinji's area
>Therefore, unit 01 doesn't move her hand.
>But Gendo STILL ends up smiling, there's still some giant hint being played here, in the very first 20 minutes of the first movie, just as it was for the very first 10 minutes or so of the very first episode in NGE.
Who or what is Gendo smiling at in Rebuild?
He is smiling at Shinji's reaction to Rei's injuries, and how he's rushing over to protect her.
Rewatch the footage for yourself, if you don't believe me.
This first and foremost indicates that the giant plot twist for Rebuild revolves around Shinji and Rei's relationship to each other, and what it means for the grand scheme in Gendo's master plans.
How can we be sure of this?
>Kaworu notes of "Shinji's awakening" while SEELE outright admits that Shinji's "awakening" was "foretold in the Dead Sea Scrolls" at the very end of 1.0, indicating that this Shinji is NOT human, and never truly was.
>Ritsuko asks Misato to give the ID cards to Shinji, so "that they can get to know each other better." This was most likely orchestrated by Gendo, who ordered Ritsuko to hand the cards over toe Shinji.
>During one of their secret conversations, Gendo and Fuyustuki say that Shinji and Rei are "children destined by fate" and that their relationship was a planned that was schemed to achieve instrumentality some 15 years ago. Something is definitely up if Gendo knew that Shinji and Rei's bond has such a strong connection to instrumentality 15 years prior to their supposed 'births.'
>at the end of 2.0, Shinji literally goes fucking berserk to save Rei. His actions strongly reflect the ones that Yui peformed to save Shinji in episode 19. Going berserk? Check. Sync ratio beyonn 400%? Check. Absorbing said rescued pilot into your own core? Check. Grow an artificial left arm to fucking mutilate an angel? Check.
>Fuyutsuki and Gendo admit "the two of them (Rei and Shinji) were enough to awaken unit 01. More implications that the relationship between the two is fucking weird, like unit 01 was to Shinji in NGE.
>Gendo also manipulates the relationship between Shinji and Rei like he did between unit 01 and Shinji. In NGE and Rebuild 2.0, Gendo uses a dummyplug to imitate Shinji, fooling unit 01 to go into full beserker mode to take down the corrupted eva 03. She later rejects the dummyplug, after realizing it isn't her son.
>He uses the same ploy in Rebuild 3.0. Gendo lures Shinji to nerv with the use of a "fake dummyplug" Rei, called Rei Q. Eventually, Shinji comes to learn that this is not the Rei he loves and knows. He openly rejects her, muttering "she's not the real Rei."
QTP (quote this post) if you believe that Asuka hijacking Toji's arc during Unit-03's activation was the most infuriating shit ever
It felt like a scene that only existed because they wanted to give Asuka a sexy new suit that'd also sell figures - which is probably exactly why it happened
Conclusion: The giant mindfuck plot twists that will completely shock everyone will be a combination of the following:
Shinji isn't human. He was never human. Shinji is some kind of FAR-like entity with a direct connection to impacts as a certified awakening trigger, like Rei or Kaworu. Shinji's relationship to Rei is critical to the outcome of instrumentality, and his relationship with her is saturated in innate, maternal undertones. These undertones share strong parallels with unit 1/Yui had for Shinji in NGE and some partial areas of Rebuild.
Shinji is overtaking the maternal role of Lilith and unit 01/Yui in these movies.
Shinji is Rei/Lilith's true mother. Rebuild is about an expecting ayy family who was going to rebirth the human race into lovely versions of their developing, unborn kid until shit went haywire via "sin from genesis" some billion or so years prior. Now the family is completely fucked up, reincarnated and brainwashed and everything is all fucking wrong. SEELE are trying to revert that, but in way that only benefits themselves, resurrecting Lilith (the unborn child) but killing "god" (the parents) in the process. The only one who might remotely remember anything from their ayy past is the father and he was played like a fiddle under Gendo's nose.
>Shinji will literally be everyone's mother in final
They were literally foreshadowing that in 2.0 and 3.0
>Shinji does all the cooking and house chores around the apartment in 2.0.
>Shinji handing miso soup to Rei is a foreshadowing of him taking Rei into his core to nourish her with LCL, which is pretty much what he ends up doing at the end of 2.0, hence Rei's "I can only live here" line repeated twice throughout the film - in her NERV LCL tank and in the core of the 10th angel.
>Shinji being responsible for 3rd impact, and by an extension, the failures of infinity. The failures are clearly human souls trapped in a state of instrumentality hybernation; they're essentially his equivalent to children, like lilin to Lilith and angels to Adam in NGE.
>Mari is weirded out that Shinji smells like LCL in 2.0. Unfiltered LCL smells like blood. LCL is used for pilots in their eva cores. Cores are synonymous for wombs.
>Shinji receives a telepathic distress call from the real Rei at the beginning of 3.0 and freaks the fuck out, going full protective mode and screaming "I'm here!"
>Shinji screaming "Give Ayanami back to me!" at the end of 2.0 parallels Misato screaming "give Shinji back to me!" in episode 20, after realizing that he had been fully absorbed by unit 1
>Shini's goes to great lengths for Rei's care and safety in 2.0 and 3.0. In 2.0 he cooks school lunches for her and is concerned when she doesn't show up for her school days or classes. He gets concerned with the band-aids on her hands, asking if Ritsuko hurt her. In 3.0 he goes so far to make Rei happy that he digs through a fucking abandoned library to find her the same damn books she was reading in 2.0. It's like a fucking doting mother.
There's plenty more, but that's just scratching the surface.
>Her surname was Ayanami Yui.
>She was a student at my university.
>She is now the control system of EVA Unit 1
What about this line?
/a/'s hate for 3.0 is completely irrational.
Prove me wrong
She's still the control system of unti 01 in Rebuild; always was.
There's a reason why unit 01 went berserk against Sachiel in 1.0, or why Gendo gets nervous when she rejects the dummy system in 2.0.
Bigger question you should be asking is, what's the deal with unit 01 now?
We know that it's one of the four Adams and that it was triggered via awakening through the crazy shit that happened between Shinji + Rei + Zeruel, and that it acts as a battery to power the Wunder's core (aka it's now a baby in a giant womb during 3.0) but that's about it.
Neon Genesis Evangelion Perfect Collection, Death & Rebirth, End of Evangelion for 30 bucks , is this a good deal?
I learned to stop asking questions, started with Metal Gear and glad I've known not to since
But really, aside from the cute shit (Asuka, Kaworu) and the regular shit (EVA battles in that skull room) I just didn't bother following whatever the fuck they were trying to do (I'm Shinji) but the thing with Unit 1 was certainly on my mind
Pretty sure its core's empty after Shinji leaves.
