I think it really fell off on this board once people realized it was a Ikuhara show and they ended up not enjoying it for the same reasons a lot of people are put off from Utena.

I was pleasantly surprised how moving it got near the end as well.

Dropped it 9 episodes in. The character designs are fucking god-tier and I masturbated to them a lot, but the show itself was going nowhere and had way too much bullshit going on at the same time. Utena is one of my favorite shows and this one doesn't feel like it was made by the same guy at all

The characters were unlikable, the setting was never explored, the concept of "love" and "yuri" was childish at best and pandering at worst, and most of all the story was a mess of pyschological concepts trying to be deep when it was just lesbians being bears (for some reason)

The cool thing about symbolism and allegory is that you can choose how deep into it you want to go. A good allegory makes sense and is enjoyable as a story, even without reading into the symbolism.

I would argue that their individual relationship isn't really important, considering the whole storybook thing with the two girls breaking the barrier with their love.

Kureha and Ginko's relationship doesn't need to be perfect and they don't need to be well suited for each other. They are setting a precedent and opening the doors for other girls to be open with their true feelings.
