Anyone else feels like Reiner is going to die soon to further Bert's development, akin to Marco was for Jean? Reiner points out Bert is too unreliable because he depends on people too much. Reiner even states that he can't be around forever, that Bert has to think on his own, and that both have to take the initiative even when they're alone.

What better way for Bert, the strongest of the Titans, to mature when all the people he looks for in leadership are all dead?

What's the point of being the strongest if you can barely walk? All Bert has going for him is his size. He's practically a walking offenseless wall otherwise.

I think, in a strange turn of events, Bertholdt will die in some remarkable fashion and Reiner, against all odds, will survive the conflict. Zeke/Sieg will likely be responsible for putting one of the main cast into the ground--whether it's Levi, Erwin, or essentially any other character except Armin, Mikasa, and Eren. I don't foresee any of the three main characters dying on this occasion.

The basement reveal will likely occur after the Corps has been thoroughly defeated. I don't know whether to count on it happening before or after Eren is recaptured though, and I have no doubt that he will, in fact, be recaptured.

Other variables I remain unsure about are Ymir and the titan serum. I think it's entirely plausible that neither of those will factor into this occasion. The serum may well be saved for a later date and Ymir may be at an entirely different location.

One of the things I loved in chapter 77 is that we learned a lot about Bertolt, even if a lot of it was a recap of things we already knew.

A thing that a big part of the fandom was misunderstanding until now is that Bert isn’t a cruel and cold murderer, but like Reiner and Annie he’s fed up with the mission and wants to end the suffering, both for his friends and the humans themselves.


He cries when he sees Marco die, even if he knows there is no other way to silence him after discovering their identities.


He’s not prepared to see his friends break under their guilt and shudders when he notices Reiner slip into his dissociative state.


He is aware that he is a passive person that never acts on his own volition and allows Reiner say all this right in his face, even agreeing with him.


Still, he agrees to try his hardest to stand up for his own and put an end to all this.


His thoughts stay with Reiner even after they get separated and he keeps waiting for his signal, worried about his safety.

After all, Reiner and Annie are all he has left and the people he cares about the most.


The titan trio certainly don’t deserve any forgiveness for their actions, that’s a fact and I will never claim the opposite.

However, I see a lot of people say they are cold and ruthless, but I believe the chapter was meant to solidify the opposite. They are normal kids that are forced to do cruel things against their will.

They don’t enjoy seeing people die even if it’s for some higher cause they believe in, even if they are threatened by their leader for showing mere sympathy towards humans.

Annie is the saddest character in the series. Her father abused her and turned her into a child soldier. The community she lived in sent her off into danger to commit terrible crimes. And a person who was going through the same things she was and should have understood instead pushed her to become a murderer to cover up his own mistake.

She's been betrayed by people she should have been able to trust at every turn of her life. It'd be a great tragedy for the series if she doesn't recieve at least one kindness and moment of happiness before her inevitable death.

I agree that maybe you lack imagination, remember they once said there is no hope within those walls? That phase may have deeper meanings. The citizens within the wall were most likely have their memories changed by the royal family. But that's may not all of it. Maybe they even changed their genetic structure to make them somethings they could absolutely rule over, like there was a special code added in their genes that will turn them into obedient mindless slaves once a certain device is activated. Or they aren't real humans at all, but just some golems with advanced AI created by the royal family to be their slaves. Meaning people inside the wall don't actually have a will of their own but can become soulless bio machine anytime thus they cannot be seen as actually "alive" and "destroying" a number of them or all of them cannot be viewed as a crime. Something like that.

If Bert eats Reiner will he be able to turn into a colossal armored titan? We know that eating a titan with the coordinate power will transfer that power. Titan hardening may follow the same rules.

Given that Sieg said Reiner would have to pass his armor onto another warrior if he lost in another fight against MT I think titan abilities do transfer. I doubt Bert has it in him to eat Reiner though, even if it is just his body.

Reiner is the one she ran into by chance. If she ran into Bert and he knew where Eren was then he would have done the same. We don't know anything about the planning of the mission besides Bert and Reiner both being told Eren was going to be in a certain place and Annie going there at the start.
