I entirely disagree. I do not feel the story has lost its purpose, it is following a logical progression. Elf Island has been part of the narrative since the eclipse, and that guys should acquire companions also seems like a logical progression. Keeps the story interesting, and I enjoy all the new characters.

The only reason why people feel like it's going nowhere is the pace.

It's literally going NOwhere instead of SOMEwhere.

If you take the entire work and don't reduce it to chapters, the pace has slowed down a bit but is fine overall.

Imagine how people would react to the subplot of the crew in Vritannis with Farnese meeting her father if it had the current chapter pace.

Hell even the troll arc would be considered a huge detour nowadays.

Everything actually makes sense and is following a plan. The only parts that really feel out of place are some moments of backstory with Guts's new group and the shit they've encountered since that formal party before they got on the boat.

I feel like at this rate Griffith is gonna win.

What if Casca tells Guts not to go after Griffith and they settle down on fairy island or whatever and that's the end?

I feel most nostalgiafags will disagree with me, but gut's party is a sign of his developement as a character. People are drawn to him, he's a charismatic guy. I'd like to see him lead men, usurp the throne conan style to bring the cycle to fruition.

Chances are that's where the story is headed. The whole reason why Guts left and the whole shit hitting the fan is because of what Griffith said to Charlotte. It pretty much sets the story for Guts getting his own kingdom and being Griffiths equal. He seemed to have all the power he needs to take on Griffith one on one, all he needs now is a proper Kingdom and he'd be Griffiths equal. Elfhelm might be the start of that.

I don't think that Guts still tries to be Griffith's equal, he just wants him to die at this point. I think though that the story will turn out in a way that Guts will fight Griffith with his own "band of the hawk"

Griffith is an amoral sociopath who simply exploits his followers in the pursuit of his own ambition. It's happening all over again in his kingdom of Griffondor

Guts leads people who begin to follow him just because he's a pretty cool dude. It happened with the Band of the Hawk, too, and it chafed Griffith's balls SO MUCH.

It's more like he'll fucking EAT the Behelit and go live innawoods with Caska and his group puts the world back together again. Guts hasn't ever had any interest in power, unless it's power to help him KILL GRIFFISU.

Yet you're complaining that Schierke is getting screentime...
She is absolutely mandatory to the story and its continuation, no one in the party can help seal the Berserker demon except for her.
No one can heal Guts' wounds while traveling, except for her.
I mean they did this same thing for blondie during the Conviction story arc.
Guts absolutely needs her, something I'm not quite sure exist for any of the other characters except for Casca who is there solely to continue the story forward and drive us into some sense of false hope.

Berserks rough draft story has probably been finished for years.
Miura's just an ass and has to draw every single pane by hand and refuses to let anyone help. With his old age and the possibility of chronic health problems (not confirmed, but very likely) it's probably hard on him to finish a chapter anymore.
This is his life's work.
He has pride in said work and wants to finish as much of it as he can.
He will probably die before it's ever finished.
I think that's pretty fucking noble and his dedication for even going this long is something I can only hope to strive for in my own passions.

If Berserk is never finished... I will still be thankful for the content i've had the pleasure of reading. Because it's so far been one of the best stories of my life.

It's as if Tolkein released a chapter of lotr every year.
