It's in the books. Kirito actually has a very feminine face and body in real life. That's why in SAO he made an avatar with a tall action hero appearance before they were reverted to their real appearance. When joining GGO the game auto assigns a bodytype/head to you based on your body/face dimensions out of a preset collection.

All of that got cut into the 5 second bit of the older guy wanting to buy his account for the rare M-9000 class avatar. You can't change it once issued, just have to buy a new account from someone else. The higher the number the closer to the opposite sex it looks.

All of this was possibly ret-conned by the addition of the GGO spin off books though. The two main characters made/got/use avatars that were complete opposites to who they are. Have not read them yet.

This is why Kirito looked like a girl, because puberty was not kind to him.

GGO avatars were always random-ish. They only kept your gender except in glitches. Kirito got a really rare avatar, because GGO will reward you rarer avatars if you have higher play-time (like 2 year's worth).

I remember they said right after Season 2, that they already had in mind who would be voicing everyone in Season 3.

Also, there's already an SAO movie in the works, so I expect Season 3 to come out some time after that.

Of course "better" is subjective. It has its high points and low points. It's actually the largest arc in the series—it currently makes up half of the total number of books, and it's still ongoing, which is why it the anime hasn't covered it yet.

Anyways, my favorite parts of the arc are basically Eugeo and Cardinal (pic related)
