Do it. Play the EN version until you get used to the game and then either play both EN and JP or completely switch to JP because it's superior.
Also if you're a yurifag you'll like those side stories even more because you play as another female student and all that cheesy shit is directed at you.

EN is a year behind, but you'll also score a lot better in events because of less competition. Also, no matter which version you start with, it'll be a long while before you catch up and unlock everything there is to unlock.
Just thought it might be a help to get into JP if you can't read moonrunes.
JP is more generous to you, making F2Pfagging more comfortable. You get lots of gems you need for gatcha rolls at the beginning along with at least one gem a day through special tasks. EN is a year behind as the anon above mentioned and there can be issues while playing songs like delayed beatmaps.
