The current conflict, in the way they portray it, is god awful because they keep insinuating that having the talented in the top ranks and striving for the top somehow disqualifies people from having fun and being friends.
The worst thing about the way they've set things up is that they've turned into some kind of hard work vs talent narrative when Lala herself was special snowflake status for being the first one to activate prism voice and have a completely successful live on her first try with even less practice time than Shion had.
The show is entertaining now, that much is true, but I can just see the writing going down the toilet by the end of the season and it all pretty much boils down to Hibiki being right when she criticizes them after her concert.
They all claim they want to be the best or to become kami idol, but all they do is dick around.

Is PriPara a fun passtime to bring friends together, or is it a serious competition where it matters how good you are? That's the thing Hibiki and Lala disagree about. Lala doesn't want to be Mizuki - she wouldn't want to be at the top if it meant being there alone.

ARD was specifically tied to Aira, it happens twice and she's the only one who can make it happen.
It's different from prism voice which required input from everyone to make the boats because everyone has prism voice and everyone got a dress.
The way I see it, they're opposites, Aira provides the means for everyone to be able to take part in the ARD, whereas with the boats it was everybody providing the means collaboratively.

But that in itself is one of the big problems.
Mirei has a legitimate reason to oppose Hibiki because she's been shit talking her about her ability for a while.
Lala, from an ideological standpoint has no reason to oppose Hibiki aside from the fact that Hibiki stole their shit, both of their ideas of what pripara should be can technically coexist without issue.
After all, Hibiki wasn't completely wrong when she said that they'd stagnated.
Lala and her main character status are what weaken this entire arc and it feels like the staff are too afraid to shift the focus to Mirei because of brand recognition.
Sometimes the main character has to take a backseat, even a piece of shit like Vanguard G realized this.
But it's not like it'll matter in the end, Hibiki will lose and they'll go on some long spiel about how hard work always triumphs.

It's both, and PR already addressed it.
There are plenty of people doing prism shows for fun and plenty of people in serious competition.
The idea that it's either one or the other is broken already.
Standing at the top doesn't necessarily mean being alone either, Hyein and Mia both ended up at the top together and MARs constantly overthrow each other for the title of prism queen each year.
Even with Bell, it's not like she up and abandons Oto and Wakana after she becomes queen.
Honestly, they could just resolve this whole issue by making a PvE scrub server and a PvP server and allow people to move freely between.

This. I hope PP reboots within the next year and that Aikatsu dies and gets replaced with a new banrise IP. Everything feels a bit stale lately, especially knowing that jewpet won't be around to provide some spice. Hopefully the Fairy thing will retain the spirit of jewpet at the very least.

I love Aikatsu but I feel like a fifth season could be the last. Ichigo will graduate high school and Akari middle school in the middle of it, set up the next successor in the latter half and end it off with a Masquerade + Mizuki + Ichigo + Akari + new face performance.
