Its like the Luffy/Kidd thing. They're both pirates, they both fuck shit up. But Kid is a terror that enjoys harming innocents. Luffy just wants to have fun and fight people he considers enemies. Caesar is more like Kidd.

Robin was an Assassin who almost killed Vivi. Franky almost killed Ussop. While we later discover that these characters are ok, their initial introduction, to both us as readers and the Strawhats as characters, did not indicate anything like that. I recognize Pica as a challenging fight, but it's not really what I was looking for. I was thinking more along the lines of his Alabasta fight, or his CP9 fight, against a fellow swordsman that really pushed him to unveil new things or grow. I feel like Pica was more of a "Well nothing challenges Zoro, so here's an enemy he can't jsut one-shot", but not in a way that's tense or dramatic enough. Pica was more annoying than intense. I think Chopper or Franky would have been a better choice to fight him.

I think what really makes a Strawhat seem more viable is how visually they would fit into the whole hodgepodge family aspect of a crew. The robotic shipwright, the skeleton musician, the super French chef, Usopp's tinkerer/Pinocchio prankster vibe.

I just imagine Monet in the crow's nest, reading books, looking at the stars through a telescope, maybe making it snow from up high while the others play down on the deck building snowmen and having snowball fights. She just really feels like she'd have fit the whole silly dream aesthetic of it.

I'm not saying they aren't capable in their own way, but compared to the bar set by the other characters in the story, they've all shown a largely varying range of destructive ability. There are people from as far back as Baroque Works with devastating skill when the only test is destroying geographical areas or killing common citizens.

The point being, just being a Yonko's errand runner doesn't assume a universal bar of skill. Jack is as strong as Jack, not as strong as a Yonko's errand boy. It definitely doesn't put Pekoms in the same class, simply by virtue of the fact that we already saw that the strongest of the minks needed to tagteam Jack for 5 days straight, and still never got the better of them. It would be bullshit if Pekoms came along and was in Jack's class despite all we've seen for the last few chapters.

I've been thinking about the end game with Caesar and it seems like the best use for him in the story is as a hostage exchange unit. Law actually had no plan with what to do with Caesar after Dressrosa since he was planning to die at Dressrosa to take out Doffy. Therefore, I think it's plausible to believe that Caesar is a loose end with no purpose in the story at the moment other than a macguffin for the antagonists. The Straw Hats have no purpose for him but Big Mom/The Government/Kaidou/The Marines all want their hands on him. Now, I think that after seeing what Caesar can do in terms of destruction, since the Straw Hats are pretty responsible, they wouldn't want to hand him over to a rival pirate, risking him creating more gas weapons.

Honestly though, that's an issue for whoever you hand him to. Where does Caesar even go from here? I don't want to jump on the retarded "Caesar for Nakama" train but, I can't deny his great interactions with the crew and his usefulness for them in the story (hot air balloon/science with Chopper, etc.). He's also at a good power level to fit into the crew, nestled right below the monster Trio and above everyone else. My original idea was that somehow Sanji gets captured by someone and they would exchange Caesar to get him back but Caesar is such a liability in the hands of someone who would want to use his abilities for political gain, which is everyone in the story EXCEPT the Straw Hats. They might end up holding on to him as a cabin boy/prisoner to keep him in check, although that puts a big target on their backs so I think they will probably end up offloading him to Smoker or a Marine they can trust.

Both are uniquely different from other crew mates as being consistently antagonistic. Not simply in a matter of not being friends to start, but playing the role of enemies or with enemies for many arcs.

Basically both Caesar and Monet were characters that had a unique ability, deeper hinted motivations and issues, and both had a lot of theory-sparking potential that people latched onto. People that go 'oh because Caesar's an edgelord' or 'oh because Monet's got big tits' are just baiting.

Currently, Caesar's still around, so he's got more visible staying power, but all of Monet's inconsistencies are still present, and the Donquioxte Pirate Cover Story, like other cover stories, is bound to involve some element that returns in the future. (Impel Down, Enel's moon pirates, Wapol Steel, etc.) So right now, I won't count out either of them as potentials. At least not well until this saga with the big powers is over.

Saying right now Sanji is the son of a World Noble and a slave woman who was forced to cook for Sanji's father. It wasn't until he was revealed (or rather was recognizable) as a member of the Strawhats that his bounty was changed to wanted alive. The difference is all of those characters have important histories that exist besides there previous life. Nami's important history is Bellemere and Arlong, Franky's is with Tom, and Brook's is Laboon.
The only important history Sanji has is with Zeff, and that was more circumstantial than any real "journey". Nami had a journey to defeat Arlong, Franky had a journey in regards to his deep guilt with Tom, and Brook is on his journey to find Laboon. Sanji had a similar guilt with Zeff, but it was very short, while the others took a fair amount of time for exposition.
