Is anime as big in Japan as anime and manga portray it to be?
Do the Japanese think an American is cool and he likes to watch anime and read manga as an adult?
>>
No.

Manga is fucking ass huge though.
>>
>portray it to be
Since when?
>>
Watashi wa... CHARISMA MAN... desu
>>
Manga is massive anime is a niche hobby maybe 5% of Japs care about.
>>
Would you guys move to Japan if given the opportunity?
>>
>>121298051
Absolutely. I plan on having a summer home in Japan.
>>
>>121298119
As a young adult though, indefinitely as a permanent residence?
>>
It's not big. It's a society full of people with other interests just like everywhere else. The market is considerably bigger there than anywhere else, certainly, but it's still a niche hobby.
>>121298051
Went over the summer by myself for a little vacation. Loved it so much, I decided that I'll get my degree in English and teach over there. Has nothing to do with anime/manga though. Tokyo is just an unbelievable city.
>>
>>121298148
No. I love America and what it stands for way too much.
>>
>>121298201
What does it stand for to you?
>>
>>121298201
I hope this doesn't take a turn for the /pol/
>>
>>121298051
No.
>>
>>121298051
no
>>
>>121297158
The otaku stuff moe-pandering stuff is really niche, but anime is pretty popular among kids here. I'm teaching junior high over here, and at least a quarter of my kids use anime folders, have anime keychains on their bags, etc.
>>
>>121298234
The epitome of western thought and culture.

Not to say I don't love other cultures, and haven't traveled. America is simply my comfort zone.
>>
What am I suppose to see in your graph? That no one searches amv in news headlines?
>>
what happen in 2012 that created a "meme" boom
>>
>>121298485
Rage comics became popular.
>>
>>121298369
>>121298341
why?
>>
>>121298485
Reddit become more popular. 9gag shit finally hit Facebook I imagine.
>>
>>121298585
IE: Reddit absorbed our old ass memes and brought them to the masses.
>>
>>121298606
Because I don't really like japanese culture
>>
>>121298606
Because I have no interest in anything Japanese besides the fact I read their comics and occasionally watch anime.
>>
>>121298606
Japan is a depressing place to live and work.
>>
>>121297158
Manga in Japan is like TV in America. It's mainstream.

Anime in Japan is like tabletop Roleplaying in America: It's viewed as the domain of smelly, ill-adjusted weirdoes who are probably criminals too.

>>121298051
Unlikely. Their culture is xenophobic, stagnant, and far too demanding.
>>
>>121298234
Hamburgers 9/11 and guns
>>
>>121299598
>Anime in Japan is like tabletop Roleplaying in America

Wait, then how is tabletop games viewed over there? Because D&D is fucking huge in Japan.
>>
>>121297158
When I glanced at your image before reading your post I thought it said "Incest Over Time"

Kind of dissapoint.
>>
>>121299557
This was in the back of my mind when I said America is my comfort zone. I don't care for how Asians socialize. In America, I can make friends on the streets and party with strangers doing all sorts of things that are 'frowned upon' in Japan.
>>
>>121298051

If I had a decent job lined up where I don't have to interact with people much? Yes.

I'd live the same but I wouldn't have to import shit.
>>
>>121299647
>Wait, then how is tabletop games viewed over there?

It's been discussed a couple of times on /tg/ that Japanese roleplaying tends to be oddly railroad-y and like a stage play. They also seem to like Warhammer Fantasy a lot for some reason.

As for how the culture views it, I guess it's just a hobby?
>>
>>121298234

Not him, but the ability to say what you want and believe it whether or not it offends people

>inb4 reaction images and people saying that doesn't exist anymore

Bullshit, my state still has active Klan rallies. You're telling me freedom of speech is dead in a place where a group knowing for hanging people from trees is still around?

Maybe you should move out of Mississippi.
>>
>>121300018

Alabama, but you were close. Either way, I like it here. I just wish the summers weren't so damn unbearable.

>>121298051

I've thought about it. I don't think I'd want to live in Tokyo though. The people are too stuffy and format about everything. I enjoyed when I was in Osaka much more, the people are so much more open. And they don't hate foreigners nearly as much, probably because they were a major port city so they were used to foreign ships coming in.
>>
>>121298051
Not forever. It might be cool to study abroad there or something though.

Okinawa would be nice, too.

Super comfy.
>>
>>121300288

Okinawa doesn't take kindly to Americans these days.

Also they hate being associated with Japan.
>>
>>121298051
I would because I really like kimonos and tatami mats and paper sliding doors and shamisen music.
>>
>>121300391

Well aside from the tatami and doors, you're going to have to go to Kyoto if you want to see those with any regularity.
>>
>>121300328
Building my summer home there anyway. Try and stop me, Okinawans.
>>
>>121299718
>making friends

Look at this fucking normalfag. Get off my /a/ and back to your frat house, Chad
>>
>>121300451
>Try and stop me

They'll probably beat the shit out of you with sticks. There's a reason the troops can't leave base there anymore.

Only if you're a Marine who likes raping and killing kids, or a Japanese woman who wants to live to 1000

Sorry OP, didn't mean to lump you in with the crackheads.

How would Kyoto take to a 6 foot tall tanned dude with long hair and a mustache?
>>
>>121300328
Okinawa has quieted down about Americans a whole lot since the saber-rattling with China picked up.
>>
>>121298051
I pretty much already feel like a Japanese already.
I am an expat Jap

>>121300641
Fuck off. This board is for weaboos.
Actually you're classing the place up.
>>
>>121300614
Kyoto would take you like they would any foreigner. The issue would be finding work. Obviously the height wouldn't matter, but you're not gonna get into a position that you'd call a career with long hair and a mustache. Not one of those "You're a degenerate!" assholes, I promise, I have hair down to my lower back. It's just the unfortunate truth. A looooot of businesses have strict appearance policies, as they see employees as a reflection of themselves, and want them to give off the image they think is appropriate

>On Feb. 2, the Coast Guard introduced a new — and potentially lethal — tactic. According to reports verified by Nago city, after detaining eight canoeists in shallow coastal waters, the Coast Guard took them more than 4 km from land where it released them — forcing them to paddle back to the shore.
That is some abusive gym teacher shit.
>>
>>121300676
It really has quieted down. They are scared shitless of China, which lays a claim to the whole area. Do they love the new base? No. But it's more reflexive opinion plus a vocal minority.
