I don't think her KOing Guts when they first fought was an accident. I think Farnese is actually the chosen one. She will become a better swordsman than Guts, and a better witch than Schierke.

No, he threw a branch at a very wounded Guts from behind.

Except it's not the same maneuver. Griffith was attempting to deflect the sword then slash into Guts' shoulder. Serpico was attempting to dodge it and then stab Guts. It's pretty different. And Serpico was fighting in an advantageous terrain, while Griffith was fighting in a disadvantageous one.

Serpico's fought on par with post eclipse Guts, and pre Eclipse Guts beat pre Eclipse Griffith. Besides it's not like Griffith actually beat Zodd there, and Serpico's fought his share of insane monsters.

Griffith couldn't plan anything in the situation. He had no intention to fight Guts before he learned that he was leaving, which was right before the fight. If he didn't fight him right there, Guts would have just left. He had no other choice.
