What does that actually mean in this context?
Whatever it is, I have a feeling it's not what Shinji does.
I always thought this was funny.
It's not Shinji's fault that Asuka sucks shit and that Rei and Shinji can knock it right off the bat.

Today is an excellent day
that episode literally emphasizes how they start to notice each other, although at that point Anno wasn't going "muh budged, 2deep4U" yet, so it was developing as a generic main characters interacting in a mecha animu too.
Do the clones ever win the world cup? Do the angels?
Yeah. That's what I thought.
She didn't know what to do. And she was scared to accept such a scary amount of pain and confusion and trauma.
She was only human. And only fourteen years old, just like Asuka, Shinji, Toji...to expect them to make rational adult decisions is folly.
She liked him as early as being on the battleship together
Someone like Asuka giving anyone her precious time?Walk right past all the others and right up to this Shinji character.
Teasing him when they first met, bragging about herself in front of him, making him wear her plugsuit, acting coy when dressing in front of him, pulling him around and trying to impress him by letting him in Eva 02. Shinji's a hard-to-read, mysterious rookie that's been able to pull off more at piloting in a short amount of time than she ever has, and she wants a part of that.
Being an EVA pilot was the most glorious and incredible thing in the world, to Asuka. Shinji was an EVA pilot.
Of course Asuka was interested in Shinji immediately, even if the skirt-flashing incident and Shinji turning out to be such a massively boring normal person threw a wrench into the works somewhat.
Asuka is shit.
The only time I kinda liked her was when Shinji was in Unit 00 and said that it smelled like Rei, and then she was like, "What the hell does he mean by that? Pervert."
>live in post-apocalyptic world
>mother kills herself while denying her (at like 4 years old)
>father and step mother don't give a fuck about her
>bases self-worth around Eva
>only pilot of the three that actually has training and wants to get in the fucking robot
>she's shit at it in comparison to pussy ass Shinji (because Yui)
>later she discovers her mother is in the Eva
>only to be ripped apart
yeah she's just a little bitch
>he intentionally doesn't reach for others so he doesn't get hurt
At least he wasn't a bitch like Asuka.
He actually pilots the Eva of his own free will in some portions. Asuka only does it to make herself feel better.
That scene seems incredibly unreasonable (it could've been presented/written better) but it holds some truths. Men are constantly expected to "take responsibility" for the emotional instability of women, even if it makes no sense. It's the logic of cheesy romance films but a lot of women actually think this way.
>At least he wasn't a bitch like Asuka.
it's the same, their shitty behaviors are a coping mechanism so they don't get hurt. one disregards other people and the other interacts as little as possible.
>He actually pilots the Eva of his own free will in some portions.
he's only do it because he thinks he should and people will like it. that's not a personal goal. it isn't even long term.
