Currently? Because they are adapting own label LNs, and there are no really good LNs on their label yet. So they have to pick up whatever they have and milk it for money. Not much choice. its still better than adapting others staff financial wise.

They also tried "original" with Munto, failed hard MULTIPLE times, so are cautious now.

They have lot of creativity in their adaptations and random stuff they do - just no person able to really create a new fantastic franchize from scap.

Chu2 belongs to KyoAni LN publishing devision. They have all rights on it, and can do whatever with it, up to telling author to write LNs based on anime and not opposite.

Gotoh, while involved in many KyoAni productions and haveing his FMP adapted by KyoAni is independent from them writer and publishes his LNs under Kadokawa - both FMP and Amagi.

It goes not even about artistical freedom here, but just money. Kadokawa decides whats adapted, pays for it, and has all rights on it. As far LN goes, he is entirely dependant on them - he has no rights to even change it in a way publisher would dislike. The only other way is doing like IS author, dropping the publisher (publisher still retains rights on original work), and relaunching series on other publisher under different name or something, renaming all characters and stuff.

It`d be easier for him if he wanted to fully work with KyoAni just to write new LN and publish it under their label. But i guess Kadokawa still pays more and provides better sales and market coverage than relatively small KyoAni label (atm only amateurs go to KA label).
