To this day I still don't understand that hair. I mean is that red and black part a hat or something? If it is his hair what is that blond hair in the front. I don't understand, what the fuck is it?
>tall as yami
no but at least he's not Kaiba, who didn't change a bit in 20+ years.
Not only did he grow tall, he got swole
Honestly it's just the shitty artstyle.
His hair is black, but not raven-black, it just has a red shine to it. Because of how shit the art is, it does a poor job of showing that Yugi simply has a spiked blowout with blond bangs.
Yugi's entire design is based on the old Visual Kei style.
What Yugi's hair would look like from a side-view.
To be fair, manga Yugi didn't grow up when he was possesed by Atem; he just looks more confident and before the Duelist Kingdom, kinda crazy. Yugi growing a foot was an anime thing
Reminder that Joey later traveled to another dimension where he was a badass motherfucker and got his own manga.
How about Pegasus, which is even older than Kaiba. He looks even younger in GX for fucks sake.
>tfw manga pegasus died horribly
Besides the gem-thing on his head and the silver hair, they have almost the same face and hairstyle, except in cases like pic related.
>not a white-skinned Marik
The height is an anime thing. In the manga Atem is just as short as Yugi. He even gets cut out of some panels that focus on the other characters because of his height. Also Atem was really young when he died, about Yugi's age or even younger. He wasn't much older than 18.
Atem's voice is deeper and more confident in the JP version but the differences were exaggerated in the dub.
This is how his hair would look in real life
I've actually started rewatching this and I can say his real hair is probably black with some blond highlights thrown in.
Is Yugi gay?
I mean he has a man inside him 24/7
He's obviosly goth, just look at his sense in style. The eye liner too. What really concerns me is how then the Pharaoh Atem had the same hair centuries ago in ancient Egypt
This universe is just one where people can have hair that is unusual compared to our world.
Also, the ancient Egyptians were big on wigs. Having your head shaved and wearing a wig helped protect from lice.
>Is Yugi gay?
After watching the Japanese version of the anime, I'm pretty sure he's gay for Yami. And vice versa.
>Anzu married Yugi
Where did you get that information?
Did you think he was Japanese or from the Ptolemaic dynasty? He's delicious brown.
>After watching the Japanese version of the anime, I'm pretty sure he's gay for Yami.
You can only go so long with a guy inside you/being inside another guy without going gay for him
The colors are sometimes better but the style stays pretty ridiculous throughout the franchise. Like this guy.
If you have black hair and dye it blond, if it's not mixed properly than some parts turn out red
It's the simplest explanation and just shows that the ittle girls on /a/ don't know shit about fashion
My favorite episode was when Kaiba was on the run from Pegasus and became a super hacker and hacked into his computer, kek. The music in that music had me on the floor with how ridiculous it was.
>If you have black hair and dye it blond, if it's not mixed properly than some parts turn out red
>It's the simplest explanation and just shows that the ittle girls on /a/ don't know shit about fashion
Think about how Yugi's hair is and then think about what you said.
Please, don't anyone spoil this for him because he has to try and work it out himself.
>he doesnt think card games are cool
That's what happened in the manga.
Maybe, apparently he was alive and kicking during 5ds but no signs of him marrying or at least adopting a kid.
Japanese anime also kills him off, but the 4kids dub just makes him fall into THE SHADOW REALM or something.
Apparently, being trapped in eternal hell is less disturbing and more fitting than dying.
He also makes a brief cameo in gx but since gx is shit it doesn't matter.
>Japanese anime also kills him off, but the 4kids dub just makes him fall into THE SHADOW REALM or something.
Wrong. Pegasus shows up in the Orichalcos saga. He is very much alive in the anime.
I still really don't get why it works like that. Even having said what I said previously.
It's strange. They'll even sometimes draw them realistically and to me they always look strange even though they've always been Japanese.
>He also makes a brief cameo in gx but since gx is shit it doesn't matter.
kek. But he's in the movie too. Where him and Yugi's grandad die. And then don't because of time travel.
he wanted to revive her using the millenium/sennen items or something. Or make her into a card with the items and then use kaiba's holograms to make her a hologram.
Some shit like that, can't remember much.
>Tricked a billionaire into adopting him and his brother
>Took over the guy's company and made him an hero
>Turned a weapons company into a gaming company and made it even more profitable
>Has his own theme park
>Only guy better at card games than him uses ancient egyptian magic to cheat
>Is not a manlet
>Did all of this before even turning 20
Is there any doubt that Kaiba is the most based character in this franchise?
He isnt IV for one
>Traveled the world
>Made the huge archeological discovery
>Made his own gaming empire from the ground up
And here it gets muddy
>He dies young
>Gets over the death of his wife
>Seems to find new meaning in life, and proceeds to get even richer
Heart of the cards is 4kids bullshit, just like the shadow realm.
>beat his only family's ass because MUH TITLE
>hired thugs to steal a card from an old guy
>hired thugs to kick the shit out of the first owner of the Red Eyes
>sucked the pharaoh's dick in the past
>built the "Death Tower" to trap and defeat yugi
>hired mercs and ex-military commandos to beat the living shit out of yugi and co
>IF I CAN'T BEAT YOU, THEN I'LL JUST FORCE YOU INTO ASSISTED SUICIDE
>has dragon fetish
Kaiba A SHIT
It wasn't supposed to kill him, and he already overcame a mindbreaking Penalty Game in the manga. The manga Mind Crush sent him into a coma until he stopped being a sociopath. The anime Mind Crush just turned him from an asshole to an asshole who wouldn't rip cards.
I love how in the first manga, the last game he plays againts Bakura is literally who cheats the best.
Yami kept hitting the table to fucking tilt the dice he rolled and get repeating digits
>IF I CAN'T BEAT YOU, THEN I'LL JUST FORCE YOU INTO ASSISTED SUICIDE
That was actually pretty unnecessary too. Kaiba had put a Negate Attack face down. He could've easily used that. But I doubt he was expecting Yugi to get twist himself into a pretzel over it.
Why wasn't Kaiba allowed to attack after reviving one of his dragons, and how the fuck did Yugi fuse a monster with a spell card and used him to infect Kaiba's dragon?
That duel was as bad as catapult turtle and flotation ring.
In the beginning of their game, they spun the dice to roll higher numbers. Then Bakura used the Ring to roll higher numbers. Then Atem used FRIENDSHIP to roll higher numbers. Then normal Bakura destroyed the dice to prevent the last roll.
Because duel monster rules were not fully established even in the yugioh world. Cards were pretty much used as your own role playing game pieces and you could bullshit the game
The last Yugioh I watched was GX, I haven't seen anything after that but I'm seeing that there is apparently some new one airing right now? It looks really different from what I remember Yugioh looking like, it just looks like "cute girls doing cute things" with the Yugioh name slapped on it. Am I wrong? Should I give it a try?
The rules were stupid until the god card arc. I don't think you could attack the same turn you revived a monster with Monster Reborn, and the Living Arrow was just a bullshit card.
The real worst duel was the labyrinth one. Why does Yugi even have a card for Black Skull Dragon when he doesn't have a Red Eyes and never anticipated getting one?
>it just looks like "cute girls doing cute things" with the Yugioh name slapped on it
It does have some very cute girls in it, but its still card game fun with some batshit stuff going on the in the background. Like this guy said >>117018254 watch to episode 7 and see if you're hooked
First anime series just took some liberties with designs.
Fusion monsters weren't actual cards in the DM manga, which is why stuff like this happened in the anime.
Alright I guess I'll watch what I haven't seen in production order. Do these all tie together in any sense? Like I won't see Yugi as a 90 year old man in Arc V will I?
No, I call that a
Arc V has cute girls for every taste
They're all completely stand alone. You could watch a few series concurrently if you liked and it'd be fine, its what I did
Yugi, Kaiba, and Pegasus pop up in GX. The bully that caused Yugi, Joey, and Kaiba to become friends is a recurring character in 5Ds, and Yugi and Judai show up in the tenth anniversary movie through time travel.
yuma: lobster or shrimp or lionfish
and yuya is a tomato, but if you wanted to stick with the sea creature theme, I'd say an anemone
it's a wig
she made a tutorial on how she did it, too
Another reason that it's the worst show to date.
cowtits a shit.
No, but enjoy the YAMI NO GAMES.
Atem/Yugi mindcrushing people left and right just works.
No. They don't do a lot of Duel Monsters, it's pretty much an excuse to listen to Megumi Ogata hamming it up as Atem.
All the Arc-V girls are best girls.
Ideally you need to read the manga first. The manga had something like seven volumes before card games started getting important. Originally they were just another game that Atem played. Manga is actually better overall but the anime focused more on cards and duels.
Should say ideally you SHOULD read the manga first.
>it just looks like "cute girls doing cute things" with the Yugioh name slapped on it
That's Zexal you're thinking of. Where the boys do all the cool shit and the girls are just there for fanservice
Extremely lewd fanservice but still annoying
Arc-V sacrificed fanservice for female characters the show gives a shit about. That said it is a loss, though Yuya's mom is good
They changed a lot of stuff. A lot of the Penalty Games are different for one, sometimes randomly so. A character who played a very minor role in one chapter of the manga is now a major character--I guess because there weren't enough girls otherwise. Some chapters are adapted in different orders.
I still had fun watching it but it's not very good.
A little of both, but mostly the game.
Field bonuses seem random.
Monsters can physical destroy certain magic cards.
>Stone Soldier destroys The Full Moon in his fight vs Mako Tsunami which then dries up the tied, leaving his fish beached and dead
Sometimes life points are deducted for monsters being destroyed outside of monster attacks
Pieces of monsters can be destroyed like when Yugi and Joey fight the Gate Guardian in the labyrinth and when Yugi duel Kaiba
>Kaiba uses Reborn the Monster on just one head of his dragon
It's like the rules of the game are made up as they go along.
Also, why does Grandpa have a heart attack or something after losing to a card game against Kaiba? Is it because he was so surprised by the holograms or what?
Also why do holograms have a physical force when they explode? Strong enough to not only blow hair around for aesthetic effect, but enough to push someone over an edge like when Kaiba stands near the edge of the castle during his duel against Yugi.
I have so many questions.
And yet Zexal is the only series to have a female boss.
You and I both know Zexal was a completely different level. There's useless and then there's Kotori
At least girls in the previous series actually liked to duel, or could duel, or won duels
>It's like the rules of the game are made up as they go along.
The Duelist Kingdom arc was before the game had actual rules, so yes, they were making it up as they go along.
Shockwaves and shit
The rules in season 1 were so dumb. Like why would any ever use monsters with like 700 attack points when you can use 6 star+ monsters with like 2500+ attack points. I never got that, it was ridiculous. Also how are you supposed to win when you can't attack life points directly unless the opponent goes full derp. I know it hadn't been too thought out yet but these aren't really obscure flaws.
DM was still an adaptation of a manga back then and Takahashi was using the game as a means to the plot and not the actual plot so he didn't really think about that kind of stuff.
In reality there should never have been any cards lower than 4 stars in anybody's deck
>It's like the rules of the game are made up as they go along.
Anon, they are. It wasn't until Battle City that the rules stopped becoming superretarded and only became mildly retarded.
The holograms are based on stupid ancient Egyptian magic and I think that your mind can trick you into feeling pain and shock when attacked even if it's not real.
Powerful monsters are SUPPOSED to be rare. Yugi's Summoned Skull is said to be extremely rare in the early manga, and of course, there are only four Blue Eyes. I think the explanation was not everybody could get lucky or afford to get the powerful cards, so relatively normal people get stuck with shit like the Horned Imp at best. But the early game was extremely flawed, Takashi just based it off his scattered memories of MtG and called it a day. It wasn't meant to become such a major thing.
Mai's Shadow of Eyes lures monsters into attack mode also, except female monsters for some reason.
I'm watching it right now. This shit is bonkers.
Also I think Mirror Force takes life points away every now and then depending on the mood of the writer
I always assumed the monsters with over 2000 points were super rare in their world, which is why you only really saw one or two per deck. Hell Joey didn't have any straight up strong monsters until Red-Eyes. Thousand Dragon was fusion/effect mess so it was a unique case.
Season 1 Metagame in rea life would have been like stop defense, mirror wall, mirror force, pot of green, monster reborn, maybe some equip cards + 25 2500-3000 monsters and some OP effect ones like MoF.
Can we all agree Sherry is most beautiful Yu-Gi-Oh?
Nah, he doesn't start wearing it until Atem takes over for the first time. Then Yugi sticks with it.
>Mystical Space Typhoon was the same level as Torrential Tribute
>Nuh uh, Time Wizard doesn't work on Dark Magician because old magicians are smarter
I think DK Yugi just made up bullshit rules to win and everyone believed him for some reason.
Egyptian Gods > Wicked Gods > Demon Lords >>>>> Aesir
Graceful Charity offered you some mediocrum of choice. Pot of Greed does not. Also you could activate more than one
Got around that one though
>mfw playing the card game with my friends with season 1 rules
It was so fucking stupid. We didn't actually read the rules until Battle City.
Pegasus was a brilliant villain, so no, it does not.
lack of perceivable titties suggests boy. But dat face looks feminine as fuck. Granted he/she is asian so boys looking feminine isnt that unusual. I guess ill go with hermaphrodite
Did anybody ever legitmately have all 5 exodia cards? I remember back in the day I had 4 pieces, but was missing the left arm, and never got it. Even after I sold all my other cards I still kept those 4 cards for some reason.
A closet homosexual who loves cartoons and comic books?
Or just not interested, like Atem. At his age he should've been married and had a bunch of kids through various women by now.
Yeah but going on from duel islandarc the manga becomes pretty boring too. dropped it before the last saga (which I know is the "good one" but I just didn't give a shit anymore) 'cause I felt too stupid reading all those card game d-d-duels.
it's pretty much worthy just for the first 7 volumes like you said (it looked like a TOTALLY DIFFERENT concept. was it even drawn more realistic/better?) and a couple of violent scenes that kept happening after it but the anime skipped.
In the manga he stuck it up his sleeve and pulled it out during the duel. It exploded rather than serve him and Yugi mind crushed him. Then Yugi won their second duel using Exodia.
He was a paranoid fuck.
The real reason is to establish him as a mega-cock instead of just a cock.
There was a time when Marauding Captain/Exiled Force were banned, Ring of Destruction being limited, BLS also being banned, magician of faith being limited and banned from time to time and cyber jar banned.
Oh and who could forget Injection fairy lily, Jinzo banned and call of the haunted banned.
At least he wasn't Yuma, webm related
That wasn't nearly as bad as the shit Yuya's pulled.
No I am definitely sure Recontract Universe is the pinnacle of YGO bullshit. The only way to get higher than that is like changing an entire deck. Or more like, your opponents deck
It was a totally different concept. It was people being dicks to Yugi or his friends and Atem punishing them for it. The themes of sin, punishment, and atonement were strong, and eventually, Atem himself stops going full overkill with the Penalty Games. But the card game got popular and the author was pressured to keep on with the card game and that did kind of take everything over.
I really do recommend going back and reading the final arc. Millenium arc the best. As for art style, hmm, not sure if it was better (it was pretty unpolished) but I feel like it had a lot more charm. It was kind of bad in some places but I still liked it. Some redesigns aren't as good as the initial designs, like Yugi's hair.
No it's not.
Creating a new fucking game mechanic in the first goddamn episode without explanation is infinitely worse than using established magics to change one card to another during a duel the villain cheated to force the protogonist into the corner.
>I don't know what's going on in the webm.
It was the MCs turn, he had 25 life points, no cards left in his deck, one useless monster on the field and only 1 card in his hand that would kill him if he played it. He then proceeded to do that and make it into a card that made him win
>But the card game got popular and the author was pressured to keep on with the card game and that did kind of take everything over.
To be fair, the manga was near cancellation before the card game and Kaiba entered
All I remember from the original manga is Yugi tricking that dude into setting himself on fire and a bunch of kids tasing themselves. Is it all that good or have I seen all there is to see?
Personally I don't think you can really rank the YGO series. Each one has some kind of bullshit that stops it from being consistently good
DM-When it is adapting the manga arcs, it's great, when its not, it's doing these bullshit arcs that are full of generic bad guy things and established tropes that have nothing to do with the plot and nobody likes them
GX-Hates its secondary cast but keeps adding more and more while focusing almost completely on the protagonist and has very long stretches of nothing happening. If it had been a full SoL it would have been better for it honestly
5Ds-64 episodes of amazing writing and characters followed by a completely different worse show
And while Arc-V isn't showing any major story problems right now, that is technically only because we don't know what the actual story is yet. It's got assloads of foreshadowing but no payoff at the current moment. I can only hope its worth it
Fucking 10/10 edit.
On the first episode (or was it the second?) he somehow changes Stargazer Magician and Magician of Chronomancy from regular effect monsters to pendulum monsters using some space magic, webm related.
>I don't know what's going on in the webm
MC of Zeal straight up modifying a card mid-duel, or as they say HOPE
Screw the rules, I have HOPPU
Just the sexiest villain in the franchise coming through.
>Incredibly powerful cards getting only a few copies printed
Thats not too far away from the shit Konami pulls with raritys in the west
>Mfw they short printed the fuck out of Vanitys Emptiness in Legendary Collection 5Ds
As is playing cards no one else can read, using unregistered cards, and tampering with equipment. Yet there have only been like four instances of "actual" cheating in the franchise.
Kaiba changed the rules like three times.
XYZ and Pendulums. Both are pretty easy to understand
Its ok Anon
Friendship was always a primary theme of the manga. That's why there's that yu-jo/friendship in the beginning of the manga and why all the other series have the main character's name contain yu and one of their best bud's names contain jo or sound like it.
Yugi and Jounouchi
Judai Yuki and Johan
Yusei and Johnny (Bruno)
Yuma and Kaito Tenjo
>Decide to check out Duel Network after not playing since I was a kid watching the first season
>knew the game really well, played at my local comic shop every weekend
>literally thousands of types of cards all with a paragraph of effects and rules
I always assumed the Green Hair was because of Midorikawa.
Actually, they imply they can attack directly. On the Mai vs Yugi duel (in the dub at least), Yugi's afraid Mai will attack his life points directly if he didn't play a monster.
Not to mention Kaiba literally cheated in his first duel with Yugi. He pulls out a Blue Eyes White Dragon from his pocket, then summons it.
The game even ended there due to him cheating.
Actually, assuming it caught on, it'd be a cycle of booms and busts. Every new set would have fantastic sales early on as everyone tried to get the new broken cards, but then sales would die down.
>Do they still make ritual monsters?
Oh boy are you in for a surprise
Konami is trying to make all summoning methods relevant again.
Come on m8, Synchro, XYZ and Pendulum summoning are simple as fuck once you get used to them, with DevPro and YGOPro, you can even test your decks against the AI before going online, plus it's all automated.
Stay away from wannabe tourney-fags though.
>i-is fusion still relevant?
HERO's are now more relevant than ever, with tons of fusion monsters that don't need 2 specific Heroes to summon, plus mask change.
That being said, most of the old E-Hero fusions are now worthless.
Shaddoll and Masked HERO Dark Law. All of the normal Polymerization support lately is funny.
Super stoked about the Crystal Beast support
>Final chapters finally translated online
Damn, Judai loses a lot in the last half.
Probably something to do with the counterfeit yugioh cards because at first, Pendulum cards look like someone photoshopped a monster with a spell card.
>seven colored fish
>ultimate baseball kid
>not owning Darkly Big Rabbi
Do you even Yu-Gi-Oh anon?
>thought about watching it again
>find out it was 200+ episodes just for duel monsters
I liked it when I was younger but I don't know if I can put up with 100% concentrated power of friendship for 200 episodes + the hundreds from the other shows
Watch it in seasons.
First DM, take a break, watch something else, then go to Battle City, skip Noah's ark bit, finish BC and then take another break, watch/read something else.
Rinse and repeat until you finish watching it.
duel monsters, i think.
it was the one where yugi duels kaiba after kaiba dueld his grandpa into the hospital and then he summoned exodia for the first time in history and it already had an annimation and then he cleansed kaibas hard of darkness.
has there ever been a villain so based
His hair appears to be in layers going by the figure.
I had to go back and watch the Mako episode to hear ATTACK THE MOON and ended up finding something else lel worthy
Wots all this then, love? Some pretendahs?
So I've been sorta interested in playing again, but I haven't played this shit in a loooooooong time. Where the hell do I begin? How do I go about building a deck? What's with all these new summoning methods? These are the questions that haunt me.
An okay ride. Neither the highest highs or the lowest lows, but I enjoyed it. Last season is pretty crappy though, season got cut in half. Third season is the best. Judai's waifu is great.
I actually haven't really bothered looking.
did you read any more of what I said? I was implying that he'd have taken the skin tone of his host's body. Ie even if he was black it'd have been black. The only reason he's "white" is because it's anime and that's the default colour.
And if you were joking, I apologise.
Count me interested
I'd like to see how the new Yugiohs are, too
I didn't even see GX I heard it was a totally different story and I was already weening off the card game so I didn't get into it
It's a nice take on nostalgia to know Yugioh is still relevant
Just like Black Luster Soldier and Yata broke the game years ago; thats always been the business model, releasing cards that break the game, banning them, rinse and repeat
>It's a nice take on nostalgia to know Yugioh is still relevant
The new series is rocking it at the moment
The original art style was more grimy and sinister, all the villains(and Yami) had shadows under their eyes and some of them looked like actual asians instead of just anime japanese people.
Me and my friends actually made up a way to play like the show.
Heres how it works.
You need at least 3 people because one guy is the judge and can choose to allow the whatever happens rule.
We basically duel with cards and try to BS the game by making really stupid made up things with the cards to give ourselves advantages and shit.
Oh god the memories of that were some of the funniest I have ever had.
They should of made it that the stars are used as a number of resistance to magic and trap cards being used on them, and once they run out of those stars the monster would be destroyed...
You know what, maybe I should do something like that. Would /a/ play a test game?
