Which on is the best? Why?
>>116090707
sennen joyuu because it's cute
Millennium Actress.
Paprika for the OST
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yx9RgTiIKDE
>>116090707
Millennium Actress because the plot was much more better than the other 3.
Perfect Blue = Millennium Actress > Tokyo Godfathers >>>>>>>>>>> Paprika
>>116090812
What was wrong with Paprika?
Perfect Blue.
The amount of talent to make the story work properly without it being horribly disjointed is why.
Also, why do so many people hate Paprika?
>>116090821
Inception rip-off
>>116090707
Perfect Blue is the best. Paprika is the most refined but lacks coherence (the power of love beating a man who has hypnotized all humanity is kind of stupid). Millenium actress gets way too lost in itself, and while charming, the fact that all of her movies follow the exact script of her life is silly. Never watched Tokyo Godfathers, though I doubt it'll be as compelling a story as Perfect Blue.
>>116090855
Nice bait.
>>116090846
Probably because it's quite convoluted.
>>116090855
>Inception rip-off
I know this is a joke, but come on, give me a reason.
>>116090862
You should seriously watch Tokyo Godfathers. Fantastically well written stoic, satirical comedy. And again it has some lovely passive-aggressive judgement on social issues in Japan.
Opening scene is fantastic.
>>116090707
Perfect Blue is the best.
Paprika was all tripping balls and made no sense.
Tokyo Godfathers is a shitty optimistic story.
Millennium Actress i don't even remember what was about, but chances are it is second best.
>>116090925
It's somewhere in the backlog, but only after I finish U.C. Gundam
>>116090855
>tfw bait makes me rage because Kon is dead
>>116090784
My favourite bit of soundtrack from a Kon movie is from Millennium Actress.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KJY1TomgkBs
Paprika was just whacky visuals for the sake of whacky visuals. It's pretty, yeah, but it lacks any depth in plot or characters. Would be nice as a music video or something. Full length movie with a ham-fisted romance subplot? Not so much.
>>116090821
The fat man won.
>>116091046
Gaben deserves love too
Millennium Actress > Perfect Blue >Tokyo Godfathers >Paprika
>>116091046
That guy was fucking fat, holy shit.
I forget the name but watched some girl running around here and there one.
>>116091102
So every single Satoshi Kon film.
>>116090707
Millennium Actress obviously
Perfect Blue gets second place
Whilst we're on the subject, what did you guys make of this?
I liked most of it. However:
>those filler episodes
>that entire episode about an anime studio
>the weird radio shit
Maybe I haven't looked enough into it or understood everything.
>>116091102
Millennium Actress. There's a powerful scene of her running.
>>116091180
Welp, forgot the pic. I'm drunk, shoot me.
>mfw all Satoshi Kon's manga will be available in English by Spring next year.
Opus, Dream Fossil, Seraphim and Kaikisen. Kon did more than movies. His manga are pretty badass, too.
>>116091180
>>that entire episode about an anime studio
Damn that episode was depressing.
I enjoyed the Suicide episode myself.
Tokyo Godfathers
because it's the only one that's fun, and damn is it fun
>>116090953
Who cares, he didn't write it.
I still can't believe he's gone. Fuck it.
Millennium Actress
>>116091352
I cry everyday when I imagine what kind of films he would be releasing right now.
>>116091102
Apparently Perfect Blue.
>>116091246
Is Dream Fossil a collection of short stories? If so, I'd be highly interested in reading that.
>>116090707
Perfect Blue because it's the only one I've watched
>>116091514
Yeah, 500+ pages of short stories by Kon.
http://www.amazon.com/Dream-Fossil-Complete-Stories-Satoshi/dp/194122024X
>>116091693
>500+ pages
I came.
>mfw I remember Kon's death
>>116091859
All of them.
Also, this video about Kon is great. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oz49vQwSoTE&list=UUjFqcJQXGZ6T6sxyFB-5i6A
>tfw Dreaming Machine will never see the light of day.
>>116092385
Thanks, will watch now.
>>116092452
It's a terrible feel. But at least we have his translated manga coming out this year and next.
Pic related.
On that note, anyone know where I can find the Making of Millennium Actress in English:
http://vimeo.com/28271512
I suspect (and hope) it might be a feature on the DVD
>>116091180
It was interesting but it felt like the episode in the middle were somewhat unnecessary. The ending was kind of lame too.
Better than most generic shit these days but still could have been better.
>>116092603
>I suspect (and hope) it might be a feature on the DVD
It is. And agreed. Shame that the bluray came out but it doesn't have english subs. I really wanted to buy it.
>>116092685
Do you really need bluray for anime?
>>116092685
So no english subs exist of the Making Of?
>>116092716
You'll have to buy the DVD.
>>116092715
Older anime benefits a lot from blu-ray. Those cells and grain and lines!
>>116092715
Sure, why not. It's not like I buy a ton of anime and I would enjoy buying a bluray of a movie I enjoyed a lot.
>>116090707
I haven't seen Millennium Actress, but
Perfect Blue = Tokyo Godfathers > Paprika
While Paprika was visually well done and a very nice concept, I felt that it was lacking something.
>>116091180
>>116091212
>>116091271
>>116092676
I loved Paranoia Agent, even the episodes in the middle. The ending might have been better, but still, it was really good.
It's sad that such a creative mind like Kon is dead.
>>116092452
god fucking damn it
why do you remind me of this
>yfw kon probably storyboarded all of this for nothing.
>>116091859
>mfw i remember reading his letter the day he diedWith my heart full of gratitude for everything good in the world, I'll put down my pen.
Now excuse me, I have to go.
Satoshi Kon
>>116091246
Isn't there still World Apartment Horror?
Best is Perfect Blue.
>>116093123
Holy shit. I've never felt so deeply about someone I have never met before.
>>116090707
It terms of how much I enjoyed them rather than how good they are:
>1.- Millenium Actress
The music is also perfect, Kon and Hirasawa are my dream animator/musician team
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_bPQ5e9f2U
I feel I'm gonna cry.
>2.- Tokyo Godfathers
This whole movie is too goddamn fun.
>3.- Paprika
It may be bullshit, it may have a ridiculous ending but it pushed all the right buttons for me, at least aesthetically speaking. I love it.
>4.- Perfect Blue
I liked it and it is probably better than most of these ones but I didn't like it as much as Paprika.
Also guys watch
>>116092385
it's some good shit.
>>116090707
it's up to you. is it a rec thread?
>>116094325
You wot buddy?
