They're both protagonists of an airsoft show who are forced into the airsoft club where they turn out to be the best airsoft players of said clubs, but the similarities pretty much end there.

Sabagebu is a comedy, so Momoka's personality is not out of place or edgy. It's meant for humor, it's not trying to be philosophical or deep like C3bu was.

The difference is that Momoka is having fun.
Yura is just being edgy to impress her peers. Momoka doesn't care how her peers think about her. She simply happens to have a violent personality.

The only major issue I have with C3 is its ending. With all the development, you would think they wouldn't end it with a non-ending.
>>113284624
You can't deny that some episodes were really great, though. Episode 4.

It just had literally fuck-all to do with what the series turned into

The show was basically split between 3 kinds of anime, a cheery SoL, a fantasy show, and a melodrama, and the fantasy chunk was the thin layer between the other two
>>
>>113283802

Apart from them using airsoft guns in their clubs and having flights of fancy during gun battles, the two shows have different approaches and premises.

Momoka is praised as a violent comical character in a violent comical show.

Yura is criticized (by some) as a angsty character in what they wanted to be a happy moesoft show. Cue 'forced drama' and all the usual butthurt pseudo-criticism from entitled moefags.

Spec Ops actually completely failed to deliver its message for me.
I don't play games for power fantasy. I play games for gameplay and story. If you talk about in-character motivation, I'd say I carried on to protect Lugo and Adams, because I didn't have an option to pull out. If you talk about OOC motivation, it was to explore the game in its entirety.
Such a hypocrite game, really - not giving you an in-game choice of going back, and then blaming you for not quitting the game. I enjoyed it still, though.

I'm not complaing.
Wasn't self-inserting, liked the plot, liked the established character, didn't like the fact the game does absolutely everything in its power to tell you "you are a shithead for continuing to play". I enjoy the story, I enjoy the characters, why should I stop playing?
It was more obnoxious than A Series of Unfortunate Events with its shit (though, that's not really a fair comparison, because A Series of Unfortunate Events was a superb read).

In Japanese both of them are about ???? - they don't play "airsoft", they all play "survival games", this was actually why some of the puns didn't work all that well in english since translators usually went with "airsoft" as a more common western term for these games.

Also both shows have delusions, just one of them tried to make them a plot point (and arguably failed in that respect).

I feel that it's actually good. C3bu is ultimately a character study, while sabagebu is purely a comedy. However, most if not all of the summaries of C3bu does imply K-on with guns, or something more like sabagebu. I certainly didn't expect the drama, but that didn't stop me from enjoying it.
Btw sabagebu is also pretty good, for being what some here wanted c3bu to actually be (in a good way, obviously).

They could have either a) NOT DONE THAT or b) actually run with the concept and made something of it.

Yura was just doing what seemed right with the awful advice she'd been given. Her actions were still her own, but she was manipulated into them by Sonora's shitty mentoring. Yura was a frail being and Sonora betrayed Yura just as much as Yura betrayed everyone else.
>>
This could all have been avoided if she just didn't cut her hair.
>>
>>113289309
Sonora was never some paragon of the great leader anyway, but her leadership worked with the rest of the girls. Yura just wasn't like the rest, and Sonora had no idea how to handle this.

Her decision to let things unfold on its own turned out to be wrong, and devastating to Yura's own judgement, but it's not her fault, that Yura misinterpreted everyting she was told, and got obsessed with the victory, even at the expense of the very reason why she has joined the club. To find some friends, and enjoy the time spent with them.

Yura joined because these battles were fun. She found something that made her actually enjoy the time she has spent with the others.
Others scouted her just to fill their ranks, because survival games really isn't a thing on prestigeous girl academy. But after Sonora saw Yura's potential, she tried to actually involve her and work on that potential of hers

>>113290052
I guess that you actually meant
>lets tell her that it's not important to win, but to not give up, and enjoy the battle regardless the outcome
It's not like Sonora was not conveniently put into hospital bed the moment Yura needed her the most. And when she has returned, Yura was already on the "dark side"

This is where the manga managed to present and solve the whole deal thousand times better than the anime.

>The last three episodes could've been so much more.
>This shitfuck thought and wanted there would be a school shooting or some other edgy shit.
>I'm quoting the situation.
What was nice about C3-bu was that it dealt with a somewhat mentally "sensitive" girl who got pretty seriously obsessed over a hobby she was talented in, but nevertheless managed to heal via reflection and the help of her friends. I'd say she barely turned from the point where she would have needed some serious psychotherapy. All of the other characters not taking part in her edginess, and even the "villainy" black haired girl coming out to be just an uptight high school girl was what made the story believable, down to earth, and hence enjoyable.
(Leaving aside all the unrealistic physical feats and all of course.)

It didn't have the highest quality overall, but it had a unique idea, and was made with love.
>>

Yura's reason was to play because the games were fun. Match with Meisei was not fun, and Yura did the best thing she knew. She gave up.

If you preferred the shy flower, that is to be babysitted by her surroundings, sure, Sonora should have leave her alone after the match. But she actually told her that there is no need to be afraid, nothing to run away from. That it is still just a game.

She didn't saw the same thing that we saw. She didn't seen the tournament turning into the battlefield in Yura's head. She just saw girl who gave up, because Rin went on her with some psychological warfare.

Laidback tomboy trying to mentor shy introvert is "elephant in the porcelain" situation, but Sonora was doing it for Yura's sake.

I understand your point now and agree but I still think it's odd Sonora assumes giving up is always bad. Is there a point to keep playing chess if you lost all your pieces except your king? Would it be fun to continue playing in that situation?
>>
>>113293667

The problem here is that when Sonora says "you can't give up like that!" she's trying to tell Yura not to be a spineless faggot but not that she should turn bat-fuck obsessed over the game and disregard her own and everyone else's health.

Everything is good in moderation. Motivation to win included. Yura first had none of it, then took Sonora WAY too seriously and turned unstable.

Sonora did nothing wrong.

She uses a Skorpion and thats not a clip, it's a drum mag. The drum mag only carries 370 BBs and the gun itself is really light so its not heavy at all. Yura wouldn't really need 2 drum mags per game unless shes spraying like a retard or in on of those hour long games outdoors.

Why do they call it a drum "mag" and invent new terms for known stuff rather then call it a drum clip? Normal people understand clips of ammo and even if the clip is circular like tupperware that shouldn't need a confusing new category like guns are some secret club. Do the people naming even understand guns? This happens all the time, I've played a lot of fps all the way since counter strike and it really pisses me off when players add unrealistic mods and shit. Like taking the shotgun and making the spread really tight even at 100 ft or giving it armor piercing ammo option because I LUV SHUTGUN XD. Guess anime writers need to play some more games too.

It was covered at the end of episode four. Before her "delusion", Choujirou's legend was of a great hero who died during a brave last stand. Afterwards, it was of a great hero who lived well into old age. Because Yura saved him.

The other C3-bu girls comment on him living to old age really casually at the end of the episode, like it's always been that way, even though Yura knows it was different before.

>Everything is good in moderation. Motivation to win included.
>Sonora did nothing wrong.
Failing to encourage motivation to win in moderation is the very first thing Sonora did wrong, though. After Yura's surrender, Rin told Yura that Yura has no resolve, that her attitude is despicable, and that she shouldn't dare to even play airsoft if she's not going to play to win. Sonora shows up right at that moment and says she completely agrees with Rin, and continues to lecture Yura. That's not encouraging a desire to win in moderation, that's over-dramatic and manipulative.

Further, when Sonora observes that her (well-intentioned) advice is going awry during the island match against the Kansai team, she decides not to step in and talk to Yura even though Sonora can tell it's her advice causing the problem. Sonora would later admit to her involvement in Yura's descent in her private talk with Rin in episode 11, saying she convinced herself she was fine with everything including the situation with Yura.

You're right that Sonora was ultimately trying to encourage Yura to better herself and have more resolve. Her intentions were always good, but her execution was continually terrible. That's what she did wrong.

It's Yura who was fucked up. Sonora gave generic motivational speech.

>That's not encouraging a desire to win in moderation, that's over-dramatic and manipulative.
That might have come off like that; I don't care enough to go and rewatch the scene to make up my mind. But as it was later revealed, even Rin was not nearly as obsessed as Yura became, so I'd still say they just tried to turn her less spineless. It's not like they continuously treated her like that either, it was just one moment, and otherwise they were all having fun.

>Sonora would later admit to her involvement in Yura's descent in her private talk with Rin in episode 11, saying she convinced herself she was fine with everything including the situation with Yura.
Blaming herself is natural, since she was part of the "trigger" to what happened.

>Her intentions were always good, but her execution was continually terrible.
I still think she was rightful in her disbelief that Yura would turn that crazy.

I don't really trust what Rin has to say on resolve or the desire to win anyway considering she can't keep her own ideals in order. Pic related, she flip-flops on the issue and contradicts herself when things get out of hand with Yura.

>It's Yura who was fucked up. Sonora gave generic motivational speech.
>Blaming herself is natural, since she was part of the "trigger" to what happened.
That's what I'm trying to say, basically. Yura isn't blameless in her own descent because obviously her actions are her own, but removing Sonora from the equation entirely by saying she did nothing wrong isn't fair. Sonora's shortcomings as a senpai were an important factor in the story. She had plenty of opportunities to ameliorate a situation she had an role in triggering, but she simply watched it happen.

Anon, I've been saying this for quite time, and I'll say it again - can we really be sure that Haruna Rin didn't just frame a random guy for the Sonora shooting? I mean, it is very, very suspicious that it was her who caught him in the first place.
He may be responsible for the other shootings, I won't deny or agree with it, but Rin being there when Sonora shooting happened can't be just a coincidence.

Interesting enough, on paper Sabagebu shouldn't be the better show, but it is. Remove the airsoft elements from C3bu and it's just a slice-of-life friend drama. Which is fine, but there's inherently little take-away there.

Sabagebu on the other than is comedy so even without the airsoft elements (which is purposely downplayed anyhow) it's still funny. There's just more take-away for comedy than there is drama.

Writing off Miyagi was a big mistake really, the events were fairly similar and she was the one who brought Yura back after Yura helped her atone for the shooting incident. The random shooter always bothered me because it was just completely pointless and out of the blue, but it made sense after the manga since they kept the event, but not the character.

For what it's worth, the manga might have been a bit generic and not as WILD RIDE as the anime, but the character development and the plot made so much more sense and everything was tied up in a logical and consistent manner. Sadly the anime decided to fuck that up even though it could have pulled off the wild ride without fucking that up.

That image leaves out an important frame though. The very first appearance of the dampness in the scene (pictured) comes from the top and upper sides of the blindfold, which isn't where tears would begin to soak through. It looks more like it's coming from her forehead and temples.

She's got what are definitely beads of sweat at the back of her jaw and neck there, those at the least are certainly not tears.

She might be both sweating and crying, though. Does the idiom "blood, sweat, and tears" exist in Japanese?

The advice from Sonora and Rin is so contradictory. No wonder it screwed Yura up.

You HAVE to try to win
You CAN'T every give up
But it's also just about having fun
But it's also just a game
>>
>>113322234
Actually, the advice was pretty straightforward.
When playing, put all of your effort into the game. Do not surrender prematurely. Play the game until the bitter end.
This way, you will feel satisfied with what you are doing no matter whether you lose or win.
>>
>>113322234

>>
>>113321635
>>113321286

No.
She played to win.
Look, just think about it like, I dunno, competitive games, I guess? Throwing a game is considered unseemly conduct. Cheating to win is also considered unseemly conduct.
It's a game where you compare your skill with that one of the opponent.
Do not insult your opponent and conform to accepted rules.
Be polite. Be professional. Have a plan to hitto everyone you meet.

Ironically Yura put a whole bunch of effort into her plans for the tournament. And her teamates bitched about TOO much effort. Yet viewers and the characters view her as a shitty friend for some reason. Judging a social inept noob that only played like 5 games and got odd advice.

The thing I hate about this series though, it wasn't really Yura's fault too much. Yeah she was in control of her actions, but it's her "friends" unwillingness to truly include her and instead just threw the sport at her. Instead of trying to make sure she was having fun, they kept quiet when they saw something they thought was wrong, especially Sonora who ran away from all her problems with her. No one tried to talk to Yura, no one tried to get on her level, no one said "Yura I can tell you're not really having fun" "Yura, we're not having fun if you play this way" "Yura, you got my initial advice wrong".

Yura was a clueless non-social person before this. She literally had no friends. Sure these people couldn't have known that but they could at least have recognized she was shy and needs people to talk to her to get her moving the right way.

Oh, and to top it all off when they do decide to finally speak up, it's only to get mad at here and basically demean her and squash all her efforts. These were not good friends. Only Rento ever tried to communicate with Yura and by then it was sorta too late. I think.

It was, but I have a hard time faulting Rento for her failure in that regard. She tried her best to keep the peace and showed easily the most compassion and goodwill out of anyone on the team. She just wasn't sure how to help Yura, probably because she didn't really understand what was going through Yura's head at the time.

Was Yura giving up once so bad? Don't even soldiers in war surrender sometimes?

Sabage is more serious than war.

Was agreeing with Rin's statement in this part the right thing for Sonora to do?

Read that in Caleb's voice.

Debatable, but whether or not it was right she way overdid it.
