Personally I've always had a soft spot for characters like Koushiro or Jou or Iori or Takeru that are "supposed to be background." The "obvious heroes" are, well, usually too "obvious."

The few times he does get any kind of spotlight, he does something cool unless it's one of those times where he needs to suggest a sensible course of action so that Daisuke can demand a risky suicidal one in direct opposition to the point of Taichi's character, and eventually be proven right because he's got a giant plot-armor.

02 presents Takeru as a chill guy who's well above giving a fuck about Daisuke's petty jealousy and generally seems to have the right mind about things. The frustrating part is that he's always completely sidelined in increasingly fucking retarded ways (FUCKING SKULLSATAMON) so that Daisuke "Let's never retreat under any circumstance, the writers will dump a powerup on my ass if we need it" Motomiya can be the nominal leader.

Skullstatmon's thing was that he was just insanely fast. I CLEARLY remember that. At that point it sort of has little to do with what is effective against what, if you can't hit the damn target. Imperialdramon happened to be the thing that killed him because he was holding a bus at the time.
